Northern Virginia team detail anyone?

Next time we should do one in VA Beach. I will offer up my two car garage for use. I do leave for college on August 22nd though.

The videos will be informative and hilarious, due to the "on the spot" nature... ha!

Big "atta-boy" goes to XT, as he had the least hands experience than the rest, but he jumped right in with the 3401 and practically buffed out the entire driver's side of the *CHARGER*, all while asking questions and learning the detailing process as he went!

That was the best part for me, us being able share the knowledge gleaned from the boards and our own hand experience and have someone 'fresh' be able to apply that knowledge straight away and be successful.

sorry, i was still sleeping when i wrote that post.. Charger, definitely a charger. must've been the IX fumes.. ;)

I had a blast for my short lived time there, definitely up for the next one either the 21st or 28th work best for me.. should have quite a few more things in the arsenal next time around

^ Hopefully next time you won't bail on us so fast!

No offense sn0w but your mustang would be a sick before/after!! :) hopefully the black wax test spot will buy you some more time for the next detail! I think the next meet will be able to get kicked off quicker as well. We kinda milled around for a bit getting organized, but that is understandable for the first one.

Big thanks to JSou for taking the initiative to get this going and opening his home to provide the detail spot!

So wait, no opticoat? I had thought that was the plan? *shrug*

keep us posted on the protowax.

Beadage from the Charger this morning.

Nice.

The funniest moment for me this weekend was when I grabbed the Makita.

First, thank you to blkhemiltd for letting me try out the rotary.

Using an 8" yellow mcguiars pad and 105, I was going to attempt to reduce the appearance of a lighter scratch on the drivers rear quarter.

When priming the pad, the 105 was clogged in the nozzle. I applied too much pressure to release the product, and it burst all over the pad and looked like i was 'prematurely excited' to get to it.

Taped off everything around it, didn't want to take any chances: body lines, gas cap cover (yes Rob, a gas cap cover :) ), and held ready the rotary for correction.

Rember the 'priming' incident?

Well, as much as I reiterate the 'patience' mantra - do not rush, take your time, etc - I completely crapped the bed and as soon as I pulled the trigger I proceeded to 'repaint' J's garage walls, ceiling, floor, my shoes, shorts, the car, wheels, and Drew's face with 105.

smh.... fml.... !

There's also the mantra that you can read forums, books, and internets for days, but until you put polisher to paint it doesnt' mean much.

Experience - knowledge without mileage is bulls***...

Proceeded to correct the scratch, which came off like a knife through butter - Makita is the truth, for sure - and then proceeded to correct my correction mistake.

So yeah, two lessons - 1) really read up on the 10 at 10 technique to pick up product and apply less 'priming' to the pad, and 2) get a rotary.

:)

Yeah, we decided against the opticoat since it started raining just as we were about to apply it. No biggie we'll do it next round and Drew gets a durabity test out of it.

I'm planning to hold another one the 20th of this month, if anyone else is game.

Jake and friends.

My apologies for not making it. Please laugh at my expense. I had the wrong date in my calendar. Fail sauce in full effect! I am such an idiot.

Jake - ill def be at the next one.

I'm going to laugh so hard at those videos. Very unexpected but I loved the enthusiasm from Rob (xtitan1).

I will have to cosign with Steve here, much props to Rob. He asked questions and when given information, he took it, ran with it, and put in work. :dblthumb2:

Wish I had that much experienced members to help me when I first started out.

Thanks guys, I'm trying to get this video up on YouTube now.

I really appreciate, Jake, you putting this together and being such a good host. And thanks to everyone else who came and were very willing to answer my dumb questions and were very patient with me.

No problem Matt. Lee told me the whole deal. I'm making sure to send a reminder a week prior to the meet. I apologize on my part. Hope to meet you soon.
