Anybody else here drag race? I'm headed to the dragstrip tommorow to click off a new best. I mounted my drag wheels/tires earlier in the week in preperation. Car is 11.9X capable. My previous best was 12.86 @ 106 mph. That was at full weight and just boltons. Car now has extensive weight reduction and heads and cams.....its an all motor car. Going to be a fun Friday night Im the MAN!

I lived at the drag strip on Fridays for many years at the test and tune keep it off the streets program the strip had and wow that is pretty good for all motor, definitely post up you new pass time.

12.8's not bad although the trap speeds a little low, you must be hooking up pretty well even without the drags. What kinda 60ft are you pulling? Good luck with you next run :) heads and cam on your motor sounds sweet!

I used to street race a lot back in Detroit in the early 90's w/ my 78' Caprice Classic 2 door (take it to the track I say now) Sold the car to my then boss where he put it on the trailer and went to the drag strip with it, he allowed me to make a pass where I put down a 12.38 @106 mph, forgot the 60 ft time but that was a lot of fun as the car actually hooked compared to the street! The engine was a s/b 406, hydrolic cam (507/531-239/[email protected]), Perf RPM, 780 Hollley, 1 5/8" headers w/ 2 1/4" exhaust, Dart iron heads w/2.05/1.60 SS valves, stamped steel rockers and about 10:5:1 compression. The trans was a TH350 w/ Dynamic brand 4000 stall w/4.88 gears inside the stock 8.5" rearend. NO NOS AND AND ALL STEEL, AT THE TIME!

The OP's trap speed could be a little higher but its all about getting there first, right!

True, but usually trap speeds a good indicator of who's gonna win in a street race, not that I do that kinda thing anymore!

There's one more here. My grandfather, uncle, and my father all started at 16, my mother and grandmother married into it. I have been at a track every week March thru December since I was concieved. I started racing when I was 7. Currently I have a 69 Camaro with a 421 small block (best of 9.17 @147) and a Miller dragster with a 572 (best of 7.74 @ 178, it needed a bigger converter)

Are you headed to Hertford, NC?

I race from time to time.. 600 whp pontiac ventura II, chevy powered. 10.9's, 11.0's @ 125 :)

I have a Big Block Chevy w/ 11:1 comp alum heads ,roller cam .

My son has been to the dragstrip with his 415 HP jetta. That little thing is a monster!

Good luck,good looking car !

Actually, yes, I like to take the vert down to a track every now and again.

Last time it did an 11.6@129mph with a exceptionally shitty 1.9 60', but the diff had gone out. Haven't been back since, so I just polish it these days. It's a manual, 10 second car, but I'm a 12 second kind of driver, so I guess we even out around the 11s. Still fun as hell though.

Yup! :props:

Back in the day when horsepower was hard to manufacture...circa 1977

Good luck!! :dblthumb2:

Nice cars guys!!!

I take my wife's 2010 2SS Camaro to our local 1/8 mile track. It runs 8.72s completely stock.

I prefer the 1/4 mile but the closest track is an hour away.

Hopefully I will have my 79 Z28 at the track by the end of the summer. It won't be as fast as the 2010. It will be more fun with the 4 speed I have in it.

Bobby you never seize to amaze! If thats your car from the day you're one lucky guy!!

Well my detailing skills make up for my lack of driving skills.

Still trying to break those 15s lmao!

Papa S, sure wish you were closer. I'd be your pit buddy fer' sure. :D Running 11's on 'motor'... that's my kinda' guy.

Man it's been YEARS since we've dragged. Actually that's how my wife and I met (back in the early 70's). I liked to spend all my money bolting stuff on engines and she already knew how to build them. :props:

She was driving a 67 GTO, me a 71 Comet.
We obviously hit it off! :hotrod2:

By the time we got out of school she was in a Camaro and me in a 72 Comet (after wrapping the first one around a power pole) that'd give your 'stang more than enough run for the money. ;) (Something tells me it'll pull the front end on drag slicks... which is exactly what mine did, while running in the 10's.)

My trap speed is actually right on par if not a little high. I am at a real benefit here because my tracks are at sea level :). On my 12.8 run my 60' was a 1.76

Thats a great looking stang and I love the race stars! The racestars are actually going to be my next set of big and littles.

I use to drag race and street race back in the day. Here is my 70 442 in Hot Rod Magazine.

Don't race my Shelby GT500 but plenty of my buddies do. Don't enjoy it as much anymore, I would rather track it but don't want to mess up the paint, wheels, front splitter.............etc.

Thats a beautiful car. Im a big fan of the 442's. I really became a fan of the looks when Chip Foose restored one on Overhaulin'

Thank you and yes its a 2v 4.6L. I'm running a 4.30 gear with Hooser QTP 26x11.5x15 on Centerline Telstar wheels. 15x10 in the rear.
