Please help before I lose my mind! Holograms!!

Alright guys I've went ahead and ordered the sf4000, I've got grey (I thought they were black) ccs pads and a white one that needs a cleaning and then should be good.

Will report back
 
105/205 rocks.
It's your technique and wrong choice of pads that are giving you

Hate to tell you my friend but m205 does not finish down well on soft paints. Even if you have perfect technique and pad choice it is just not as good on soft paints
 
If the paint is soft. 205 on a black pad can remove the holograms nicely. Just remember to keep the pads clean every alternate loading. Clogged or dirty pads can cause micro swirls on soft paints too.
 
Lesser product is better. So the wipe off is less laborious. And chances of inflicting swirls by towels is lower. A uni grit product like 205 can be top up in between passes. So less is okay.
 
Am I the only person on this forum who uses 3M products?

The perfect it 3000 system has never failed me. Possibly because of the 2 different polishes / pads it uses for finishing? I use this sytem, plus I keep 2 different more aggressive 3M compounds for hard paints and heavier defects. The highly abrasive 3M super duty compound, and the heavy duty perfect it 3000 compound. I know this is expensive stuff but It's well worth it IMO.

205 is not all that great on super soft paint.

I've imparted holograms into a super soft finish using 205 and a gray pad on a DA. I'm also pretty confident in my polishing technique.
 
The problem I could see is that your not supposed to use a removal bonnet on a rotary buffer!!!!!! that's probably the one most biggest problem.

It absolutely contains fillers. ;) It's very important to do an IPA wipe-down, especially when using Menzerna polishes.

Thanks so much for all the advice, I'm using a 7424. I was doing 205 orange/105 grey but I I'm going to try the menzerna and report back!

this is true. The oils can hide a lot more than you would think. I would do a 15-20% IPA wipe down.

205 on a white pad finishes down fine for me on my Acura. Are you talking about even softer paint than mine?

I still don't quite understand how you are getting
actual holograms by using a 7424 as your 'polisher'...
even if you are using M105 w/grey; and M205 w/orange on "soft" paint.

Bob, as safe as the DA is, you can get those buffer marks that show you where you used the DA on super soft paint. I have to deal with it all the time on my girlfriend's black nissan altima.

Now I don't know if the correct term is holograms or not, but I know exactly what the OP is talking about. It's the mark that shows where you have used the polisher and looks like a ghost trail, much like rotary holograms.
