I had a backing plate trimmed to fit these pads. They polish very good and are so smooth! :buffing:

Were you polishing your shower? :D
Been there, done that...

I wonder how well a 3 1/2" backing plate would work with the hybrid pads. Looks like its just a hair too small. Anyone ever tried that before?

Never tried it, but I think it would be too small. I bought this custom backing plate from another vendor.

Just curious what the measurement on the bottom of the backing plate is? The hook n loop portion that is? I am assuming the vendor cut it out of a 5 inch backing plate?

Was it KB???? I was thinking of doing the same.

Probably can cut it out yourself using the correct size hole saw. Start out with a 5 inch backing plate measure accordingly and then buy the hole saw that completes the perfect cut.

Through the foam no problem, but by the time it got to the Velcro backing, the hole saw blade would catch and rip everything to pieces. You need to precut the Velcro side first.

It never ceases to amaze me the little things Kevin Brown has devolped that have made working in this industry so much easier/better. It must really iritate all those high paid engineers that initially design this stuff

Just ordered on these from KB only cost price of bp plus $5.00 for the mod.

He is an amazing guy! I have several KB custom BPs. When you talk to him he is so down to earth!

:iagree:

I wonder if KB has done any "trimming" to Rupes' BPs. I bet those pads would work good on the 15? I'm also wondering how maybe a 3.5" BP would work on a Rupes 15. I don't have the machine yet, so maybe there is something about the set-up that says you cant do it; or maybe the stroke is too big for small pads. But, the stroke on the 15 isn't that big.

KB does have "Exact Fit" BP for the Rupes. It is made to optimize 5.5" MF pads, but still allowing you to use them on 5.5 and 6.5" foam pads.

I have the custom "Exact Fit" 5 3/8" Rupes BP and love it.
