It will depend on if you are using diminishing or none diminishing abrasives. "Seasoning" lends more towards SMAT or non diminishing and "Priming" for diminishing. "Priming" is a catch all term for both, but both are very different.

This is probably the worst set of headlights I've restored.
I had to start w/ 320 grit to get any sort of defect removal. Then 600, 800, 1500 and 3000. LC Tangerine hydro pad w/ D300/M105. Wipe down w/ CarPro Eraser then coated w/ CQuartz DLUX.
Personally I always damp sand using 3 inch...
Is the wheel bare aluminum or clear coated? If it's clear coated about all you can do is use something like Iron X(which you already have) and a tooth brush to work it in. My favorite wheel cleaner by far is Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner. I was a Sonax fan but Adams DWC is buy far superior.(Yes I've...
Do you mean a 5.5 backing plate on the 21? If so it works great. With the 21mm throw sometimes the larger pad won't fit in some spots. The 5.5 is a good compromise.
Quoted for truth. I don't do 50/50 shots anymore when using the Rupes and MF pads.
The dealership I work at hires teenagers who lay MF towels on the ground then pick them up and wipe wax off. At first it was like finger nails on a chaulk board and I tried teaching them a few simple things but that fell on deaf ears.
The fact is they don't care which works out well because...
If you want to improve the ability of the Rupes do the Kevin Brown Washer Mod. Kevin claims up to 40% improvement. I bought my Rupes from KB w/ the washer mod and have never used it without it.
I will say using the Rupes w/ the MF pads w/ something like M100, M101 and ESPECIALLY FG400 be...
I haven't had any experience with the clear they are putting on the new Fords. However I will say if the paint is soft try something other than M205. I'm a die hard Meg's fan but M205 even on a black pad will not finish down without marring on soft to moderately soft paint. I use KBM and talked...
After talking to Chris@Optimum at length he doesn't like Eraser. He said he has seen less than favorable results using it w/ OC. However he does recommend using Optimum's final polish that you wipe off with a damp MF towel and go straight to OC.
Take that FWIW.
I don't think this has been answered. After polishing you want to use an IPA wipedown or something similar. Compounds/polishes can have a filling effect due to the chemicals that transport the abrasives. Another reason is to make sure all the polish/compound is off the panel...
Did you have any problems with it not holding pressure? I have one and it works fine but if I leave it sit for more than a minute the pressure is gone and have to pump it up again.
Very true. Compressed air seems to work better than the brush alone. The brush does fluff the fibers up but it doesn't get rid of the dried compound and abraided(sp?) paint like compressed air does.
Another good thing to do with MF pads, foam too for that matter, is to push the pad into a MF...
Any MF pad should be washed/dried before use to help eliminate the shedding. I use Meg's MF discs only and have had them shed some if I didn't wash them previously.
Audi paint is typically very hard. What compound were you using with the MF disc and what polish were you using with the white...
