Whats the go-to wash mitt now days?

I think the composition of towels/mitts absolutely makes a difference. Maybe not to people that wash their cars with dish soap and old rags. Marring/swirls are a real thing. They get there with the items that are used to clean the paint.
Dry wash media on soft paint, sure maybe you'll see some marring if you apply enough pressure. Maybe on some crazy soft paint you might see some issues in practice but really, someone please explain to me how the mit scratches but the dirt doesn't?

I see all sorts of funny stuff though, guys using foam two, three, four buckets, whatever. Then after a drive they spray their car down with a rinseless concoction and proceed to wipe dirt all around. Yes... Encapsulated dirt, floating over the surface...

But I like my fake wool mitt from Meguiar's, only on my FJ though, I would never use it on the Nissan's paint, it's way too soft.

I've never had an issue with marring from it, but really only use it with Carpro Reset now, and I really agitate it on the grit guard in the rinse bucket.
They are great, until something hard gets tangled in the fibers. Then you get marring. For example a thorn.

That's probably the one, I'm not sure I have any of those old ones anymore.
Yep, those. They are super durable, mine are maybe older than all my cars combined. But mine have a bunch of junk stuck in them so I don't use them on paint anymore, just wheel well and engine bay duty.

I’m saving mine for that real special day, on that real special car, with that real special black paint, when the weather is just right, so I can take those real special pictures I’ve been waiting for… lol.

Just to clarify why I don’t like the noodle mitts, it’s because I wound up with 1 of them, which curiously enough was purchased here on AG that just doesn’t glide across the paint with any ease [I tried it on several different cars] and it’s mainly because of that experience with that mitt that soured my opinion of them.

I’m certain they’re not all created equal, because the other noodle mitts I have don’t seem to have that issue.

I don't like this style of wash mitt, I bought one to try out and found it sheds threads and fluff bits, I'm sure there are better quality ones that don't shed, but I'm not going to keep buying till I find one. I have a habit now when I'm at an auto shop, if they have these on the shelf, I will try to pluck them, and usually I'm successful.

Detailing forensic did a shootout and this type won out. He has a lot of good video’s.

Basically did best job of engulfing dirt and releasing. He’s forgot several but after watching his video I went and bought all new mitts.

Try the Microfiber Madness brand. I have had a couple of them for years and they are like brand new. No shedding. They're a little pricey but they last a long time.

Re: fluff bits.

IME, it doesn't shed but just due to the nature of the strands, in certain spots of the car, maybe also due to body panel/seam/gap, etc, it may -catch- and a fiber might snag when you continue making the pass on it. Out of all the media styles, I still prefer this one though

There's only one place that sells it over here, that I could find, it's $39.95, and currently out of stock. Actually more than half the products I looked up on their site listed as out of stock. Not a good look for them. $40 is more than I'd pay for a single wash mitt, unless I was washing something really nice.

That store has been like that for a number of years now. Stock will arrive in small numbers, then sell out and stay sold out for months and months. At the end of the day, that company is primarily a high-end detailing shop, so retail sales of car care products are simply a side-hustle.

I've ran the Incredi-Pad back-to-back with the equivalent TRC Cyclone Ultra, both are really nice, but the price premium of the Microfiber Madness doesn't translate into a superior result.

If car pro is cheaper I’ve read the car pro dab dab is really nice. Also Gyeon has one also.
