2014 Fall Dragon Run...10/8 thru 10/12

Nice pics!
BRG rules :dblthumb2:

I'm hoping my husband and I can make it down with you guys... October is such a busy month. But it's right around my birthday and our anniversary. Would be a good way to spend it :xyxthumbs:

Keep us posted!

Here's me from 2012 down there:

Great pic Monica!

Now those of you not familar with the road, check out how that turn is banked, ALL THE TURNS ARE LIKE THAT! Your pic Monica will push atleast one AG'er over the edge to make our run I bet! Speaking of that, January 1st 2014 is the day you can actually reserve your room at the Dragon Pitt Inn. Let's say you can't make it but then something changes and you need somewhere to stay, well, there's something on the grounds of the Dragon Pitt Inn called a hostil, sleeps 10 and is fully furnished. It was still for sale last year and if it hasn't sold I'm sure the owner would still rent it out, price is $200 or so a day but keep in mind it sleeps TEN! Dennis also has a small cabin on the side of his place, that's also an option. Say none of this works out, well, Dennis will direct you to another place locally or you can stay at Caney Creek but its on the other side of the mountains about 70 miles away but its easy to meet up as 129/28 and NC143-TN165 all connect and everyone drives them all, whatever it takes we'll make it work out, don't be intimidated by the distance or newness of it all, we've all been there, its NO problem!

Cool- might reserve a room regardless and work the details out later on.

I saw Dragon run and 2014 and I had to see what this thread was about. Maybe the bimmer will see the dragon next year. Hopefully at least.

Get that thing down there! :dblthumb2:

I've been there before. It's been a few years but it's fun. No joke about all the turns. If you are prone to motion sickness, well, it's your call. I think the last time I was down there was on a mtn biking trip, so if you are into that, you also have that option as well. I love it down there. Beautiful country.

There's some damn good BBQ down there too :hungry:

We ate here when I was in Deals Gap with 6Crew last June. His place is right across from the tree of shame on the Dragon.

Man! I'd like to take the new 911 and drive some roads that are made for it! (I've done the 'Tail' many times in the past, but on my Yammy R6)

We should be up in NC, Mt Mitchell area, about 3 hours away around the same time. I'll see if we can make a day trip outta this!

Yeah!

I'll say there are some pretty tight switchbacks and smaller, lighter cars rule that roads.
Them and the Super Moto guys... holy cow are they insane

Yeah those guys put their foot down to get around the turns, literally and figuratively, LOL! One of Dragon vets came down there the 1st time, from FLA, in a 1st gen CTS-V and had all the lights come on the dashbooard out there, I guess it didn't like all that, LOL!! Then he came back next year in a S2K, he liked it much better, obviously! Now his buddy came out there in a Cherokee SRT8 w/ 315 series tires all around, tune, exhaust and intake and he drove the hell out of it, BLUEST ROTORS EVER! Not only that but the brakes were billowing smoke out the wheels, like a chimney was in there, holy crap! So as you can see we have a variety of cars but the 2 FLA guys have changed cars, the Caddy/S2K guy has a modded EVO X now and his buddy has been down there in a RX8/350Z and Golf GTI now, lots of variety for those guys. For myself I've taken a Contour SVT/Crossfire/MINI/Fit and now the CR-Z, all sticks except for the Fit.

Love the stories and interest so far guys and gals, its never too early to plan these things, trust me!

Just booked my room with the Dragon Pitt Inn. Since we're staying for 4 nights you've gotta pay for 2 nights to hold them, its $160.00 for 2 nights, tax and everything, so if your looking to join us, give Dennis a call and tell him Roger sent you. A bike group likes to stay there the same weekend so get your room squared away now. Btw, you'll get a refund if you cancel before 30 days before too.

Man I went there with a few friends back in October of 2013 and it was a blast we went there for 4 days and it was too short of a stay lol. we are planning on going back again for 10 days before the summer or after summer. It was too much fun. anyone that loves driving and hasn't been there should go. I can't wait to go again.

Hey that's cheap! :dblthumb2:

Yeah $80.00 a night to be just under 10 miles from where all hell breaks loose is great, its not like you can't find it as the Dragon Pitt Inn is right on 129.

Wow.....ten days!!

You should come out with our group and just stay longer, maybe Dennis will cut you a break on the non busy days or sheer volume, worth a try if your interested.

Yea we stayed at this place at Fontana damn. it was a huge house and could sleep about 10-12 people and it had a hot tub and beautiful views. It was on top of the mountain and it was great. It was also about 8 miles from the dragon. Yea we want to do 10 days so we can also go hiking, camping and do some more sight seeing.

Oh if you all haven't done a night run on the dragon I highly recommend doing it. It was awesome.

I have always wanted to take the bike out there and ride the dragon. One day...One day!

Night time is the best and here's why....you can see who's coming easier, the headliights coming around the mountain! This allows you a bit more "room" while your out there, something you CAN NOT DO during the day and I'm talking about crossing the double yellow. Night time is also great when you've got a slow car like mine and a buddy infront of you with say 3x's the power, just use his headlight and tailights to see what's next and keep your foot down, its the best! A full blast pass on the Dragon coming from the TN side and heading to the NC side always has me stopping at Deal's Gap to let the brakes cool, I always get them smokey at night, no need to stop and/or slow down....well that is unless you happen to run up on someone going very slow but most people don't go out there at night, especially bikes which is just fine with me, no offense bikers.

Well our run isn't for 10 monthes, come join us, its worth the time and money you'll spend getting there, trust me! If your an experienced biker, well, its going to be that much better but the other roads (Moonshiner and the Cherahola Skyway) will be just as rewarding on a bike, the views are AWESOME!

Just wondering if anyone has stepped up and made a reservation for our run yet?

As you can see on this map, coming from Tellico Plains for instance, the Cherahola Skyway runs right into 129 aka The Dragon...

This is the highest marked point on the Skyway, hence the nickname "Mile High Legend"
