58' GMC Pick-Up Restoration - ORIGINAL paint!

You two did a fantastic job. That must be awesome having someone as close as your sister by your side every step of the way.

Thank you for taking the time to post this and type up everything. These cars and this kind of quality is what puts a smile on my face - I have two classic's as well, and nothing puts me more in-tune with my passion than getting my hands on something like that beautiful truck.

Also, great reply up there. I hope to see you around - heck, I may have some questions for you too! Keep up the professionalism and great work, you two.

Also, my hats off to you for the way you handled the ridiculous comment on this thread. I'm actually quite surprised that he hasn't yet been banned (given some of his tasteless comments in the past), but it also blows my mind that someone could be so misogynistic. I know it's an unfortunate reality today, but some people just don't have a clue.

You and your sister are absolutely top notch detailers, business owners, and clearly great companions to one another in life. Keep up the fantastic work, and don't let people get you down with their closed minded viewpoints.

Thank you for the feedback. It's funny how many people it surprises when they find out we're siblings and work together everyday. So many people say "I'd kill my sibling if i had to work with them!" Im just grateful we were brought up and grew up differently lol. Definitely feel free to shoot me a message anytime with any questions. It is pretty sad comments like that and thoughts like that are still around - and unfortunately I know he is not alone in his views. We've had so many people come in and are surprised and sometimes you can tell they're even a bit disturbed to find out a "girl" is not only part owner, but also does a lot of the leg work around here. BUT - after talking with her...and after seeing what she's capable of, I can honestly say that a lot (not all, but most) of the skeptics have become very loyal customers and even friends. Can't always fight fire with fire - so we always try to approach things in a human aspect to try to disarm them with kindness and excellence. I think its a good way to approach life..not always easy, but someone has to take the high road right?

You and Dani always do top notch work and your posts are interesting and informative. Everyone should know that here in Arizona, it's often "Tarzan hot" so mobile detailers have to be tough. I've taken July and August off this year and I don't drive the cars because the monsoon dust depresses me and I'm too old to hack it in the garage when it gets 100+.

You guys rock!

I would be proud to have a relationship with any family member let alone a sister and brother. Congrats. I think a woman can and should do anything they choose to do.

To the original post, nice restoration indeed, and please let me know if you would like changes made to the post. I think it's ok to show the different views in society. Do please send kudos to your sister for the fine work she does and I would be elated to work with her.

Also a VERY rare opportunity now days to get to actually work on a project like this with the original paint. Original single stage paint is REAL paint. That is it's resin with pigment. Modern clearcoats are basically plastic and in my opinion not as much fun to work on as restoring the original paint on a classic like this.

After you and your sister did the restoration, if the owners will now simply lightly polish and wax this classic truck once in a while this paint will easily last another 60 years.


Definitely some bragging rights with this project.

That is back before the 1980's, Detroit turned out rolling works of art that today appreciate in value and attract collectors from all over the world. You can't say that about the majority of new cars manufactured anywhere today outside a few modern muscle cars, (Ford Mustang, Chevy Corvette, etc.) and exotic super cars.

America - the land of the free, the land of opportunity and liberty. Also a country where anyone can pursue their dreams and choose their destiny. There's nothing wrong with hard work and detailing is hard work. It teaches you to have a strong work ethic and the results from your hard work are very rewarding even without the pay. I love it when ladies attend my classes and the passion they have for the craft of car detailing is just as strong as any guy I've even met.

I'll just add this in closing...

I've been detailing cars all my life now and teaching classes on the craft for just as long. Women can be just as passionate about the car hobby, detailing cars and earning a living as men. No of us us should restrict anyone be they male or female from pursuing their passion.

I'd also point out that as detailers - we have more in common than we have in differences and we should be celebrating our like minded passion not finding ways to divide ourselves.

Tactful? Really? I just want to remind you of some of the highlights in the post that seemed to get under many respondents skin (I'm taking these directly from the post, so take them for what they are worth):

1. "Does this kind of job only for men"

2. "Terrible & even scary to see women do this kinds of jobs"

3. "But working on a car, polishing paint & chemical dust is not a girls business"

That is not at all tactful. That is flat out saying you feel a woman shouldn't do this kind of job, and it is only meant for men no matter how you cut it.

Mike, I appreciate your approach to this situation, but no matter how you spin this it was not called for and some see it as an attack on a member/non-member (Rule #15).

I get that people will have different view points, and I FULLY embrace that, but allowing this to be accepted when it is something negative is a problem in my eyes.

Imagine if someone were to replace some of the words referring to women with another cultural or religious word/group (I should mention that this same poster has gone after a specific group in a past post), would we still chalk that up to accepting a difference of opinions? Is that really what is acceptable by the moderators and by extension AutoGeek? I wouldn't think so, but it's food for thought.

I guess you could say I'm breaking a rule by debating with moderators or administrators (Rule #2), but I see it as disagreeing and being polite (Rule #3).

So whatever consequences AG wants to hand out for me pushing back, so be it. But seeing someone who has contributed so much to our forum (or anyone else for that matter) have his family and business partner criticized because of gender is not something that is okay.
 
I am so glad to see you guys posting again and even happier that your business has grown dramatically. This GMC truck is one for the history books....the hard work, dedication, detailed write up, and the final product speak volumes to your skills......BOTH of you.

Your response to the 800 lb chauvinist in the room shows both class and breeding. That is something the recipient of your retort will never possess.

Ditto. I noticed we hadn't seen any write-ups recently. I always looked forward to the huge number of pictures documenting the process.

I also noticed the work area looks to be more of an actual commercial garage vs their home bushiness location with a lot more room. Happy to see their success.

I tried to just keep it all within the lines of truth and facts - even though what I WANTED to say was much shorter if you know what i mean lol.

Hahaha, Tarzan hot...thats a perfect description. Funny you're talking about the dust storms...we just had to pack the shop and "batten down the hatches" because a seriously nasty storm is hitting us right now. Needless to say i had to reschedule my mobile jobs I had lined up today!

Thank you Justin! I appreciate you following on facebook as well. I still enjoy doing my write up's on here but it's SUPER time consuming so i dont always have time, but i do try to keep our Facebook page up to date!
