A HUGE fail of a detailing video

The question is... would you want him to touch your car?
My answer is no. One thing that really got to me is running a dry wool pad.

Fellow Geekers,
Please watch the other videos on you tube, you just got to.

Now do you see why I urged you to watch the videos.

I agree with everything all of you have said in this thread. I was sitting there speechless. I wonder who was the owner of that Mercedes. I guess it's good that he's trying to make an honest living, but everything, and I do mean everything else he's doing is just so wrong. It's hard to see that he's actually getting paid to butcher those cars. They say don't knock a man's hustle but golly day

SMH... Really?!?

Not a gambler myself, but speaking as a former hack, I'd wager that there are more of these type businesses, generating more $$$ than there are AGO-style detailers.

Bingo. It is pure ethical reasons and a drive to treat people right that keeps me from ordering several gallons of auto magic bc-2, several gallons of cheap degreaser and tire dressing, and going to town.

Alot of you tend to forget where you came from, if you accept you were once a "hack detailer". Even if you learned to detail from the beginning the right way, that's good but believe it or not, there are a couple of things you can still learn from the hack detailing. I was once a hack detailer, I started at the age of 15 and the day I found AGO it was like walking in to heaven from hell. I rather detail 2 cars a day, basic exterior package (wash Discontaminate and wax) and make between $150 - $200. Than having to wash a bunch of cars at 4.99 exterior only, which is the new marketing, and service that has become popular in the hack detailing world. If I was to bash this guy I would feel like a complete ignorant because he may still not have discovered the proper way to detail cars.

Well said hand :props:

Sure makes life easier having found AGO :dblthumb2:

Arguably he already is doing stuff "the right way" for his target market.

And that's the key...target market. Since you mentioned Jeff earlier, I went to youtube to see if he had gravitated to non-clay alternatives which should make his day easier. But judging from his last video, business as usual.

I really dislike the word or words in this case. Hack Detailer.

It sounds vary derogatory.

If a pro knows the ins and outs but is still doing a sloppy job. Then ok.

But someone just trying to come up and get things rolling. They shouldn't be called hacks.

I used to wet sand and buff daily. I never knew about clay. They were Hertz cars that had gotten in an accident. So our job was to just fix it and get out asap. Hertz didn't really care. If one spends so long on one car, they then would most likely be replaced. I find it amusing that people talk so bad about body shops, but then their car gets in an accident. So they then go to a body shop.

I've learned some auto body style and now I am learning Detailing style.

So yes I was in the definition a "Hack" but at the same time. Go work for an auto body shop. For pennies and perform to there standards. A lot of you could probably hang, but some wouldn't be able to.

Idk I like AGO when people have positive attitudes and are trying to help one another. If you see someone doing a "hack" job and they don't know it.

Instead of bringing them down and walking away talking smack. How about you go help that person out and teach him better "proper" ways.

- "Success comes to those who help other succeed"

^ this isn't to anybody in general, just speaking to the public.

I actually have therapy on Tuesday and looking forward to it too, they are going to help me get on latter's and step stools. So I can detail Suv's and vans. and not keep falling off

I really like this:

There's a lot of things worse out there then the derogatory word Hack Detailing.

Hi Art!
Read your post on the what you did detailing today thread. Glad things worked out for you and that you're building up endurance :dblthumb2:

A lot of you could probably hang, but some wouldn't be able to. That was the beauty of Vegas, working 48 hrs weekly hacking high dollar RV's, then going out after work doing my own thing. One will be amazed at the tips I earned hacking peoples vehicles. What a crazy market.

Idk I like AGO when people have positive attitudes and are trying to help one another. If you see someone doing a "hack" job and they don't know it.

Instead of bringing them down and walking away talking smack. How about you go help that person out and teach him better "proper" ways. I tried that in Tenn. several years ago, but in that small town one couldn't earn a decent living when there were rebuilders (detail side) who could put a flood vehicle back on the road for a $300 payday.

I was guilty of jumping on the "what a jerk" bandwagon until I had a phone conversation with an Ohio detailer/forum member who showed me the 'light'. Setec speaks of a hand that imo destroys peoples paint...but guess what? His business is in high demand and referrals are abundant. Go figure.

whoops misspoke again, I have given up trying to educate people in person. I was mostly talking about online forums. My competition is the $5 car washes and rain. and it only rains here in LA about a few times a year haha. Little by little people are starting to see my work, because I am finally starting to document it. I should actually post pictures of normal washes not, full paint corrections on repaints, because people started asking me to wet sand there repainted orange peeled cars lol.

After Detailing my car, I went to my lady's house all super tired. Her parents came down from Vegas. I told them I spent 4-5 hours detailing my car, exterior, wheels tires, door jambs and engine mostly. Then her dad and mom looked at me like I was crazy lol, he said "I just vaccummed and washed the 4 cars in 4 hours"

so yes like you said "go figure" :iagree:

Thanks for the good luck and god bless (actually means a lot), I'm a man of faith also. but won't get into that :props:

I actually want to go detail the therapists car. So they could watch me work and give me tips on how to be more careful, that and it's probably OCD (obsessive compulsive detailing) , I fell on my buttocks again when waxing my wheels lol, more like a slight stumble.

Art :buffing:

Happy Detailing Everybody Im the MAN

Get a bucket to sit on while doing your wheels...at the least, anyways.
Move a little slower, don't just jump and and move to the next thing like you used to.

My 2 cents anyhoo~the only thing constructive that I've done today is mow the grass. Mow for a while. Post for a while. Mow some more.

Sucks in person when you tell someone with a pocket full of cash that he's doing something wrong...lol!

It's steep hill. So a bucket will probably make it worse. But I'll give it a try. All the oil on the floor probably didn't help :D My brothers old car leaked a bunch of oil lol

However I do think you are right about moving slower.

There was a thread here where some of the old timers and young at heart were posting of ailments, and ways to alleviate situations.

With that drive being concrete spend some time cleaning up the spot. One day (or several) when you have nothing to do. Oil-dri sprinked on the concrete and ground in with work boots works wonders. Then move up to degreasers and stiff brush. Eventually, move on to muriatic acid and power washer/15* tip.

Just saying.

I actually learned about muriatic acid at Home Depot. While asking them how to remove motor oil from driveways.

3 years ago I rented a floor buffer, (the big one's) home depot. And I buffed the marble floor at my lady's house. Lol
Buffed and shined it lol, came out really nice too...

If you find that thread, i''d like to read through it. Maybe bump it up if I have additional questions. :)

If you or other members know of it, pls pm it to me.

Thanks

What did you use for lsp? Opti-coat?

This guy is a professional.... meaning people pay him to work on their car.
And as a professional you should be trained and constantly do your due dilligence to educate yourself. If not... you are a hack.

I am sure we all know what a quack is. What happens to quacks? They get their license taken away.

If detailers were regulated same way that the medical field is.... this guy would have been dumped.

Having been a hack for a long time (learning my craft on my own cars and finding out what worked and what did not), I am thankful for the knowledge that I currently have and I thank everyone here for continuing to educate me and others. I'm not going to say a word about anything that this gentleman says or his techniques, but I will ask you all one question - Was his buffer sitting pad side down on the ground?
