A situation when a non-forced rotational DA's will correct BETTER than a Flex 3401....

Well SAID!

In the REAL world...
Buffing guys would read all 9,000 words Mike and I write in an average "post".

It's guys like us that forced Twitter to limit tweets to 140 characters.

Great post (#18) KB!!! You truly are the master :dblthumb2:

I wrote an article about how to use the quote feature, more specifically, how to use the quote feature and the "Editor Mode" to dissect a quote to pull out the pertinent part...

The problem is sometimes people will quote a passage with lots of pictures and text and while it might be great reading, it's also mass duplication...

How to use the "Editor Mode" to break a single quoted message up into smaller quoted sections

Something for everyone...

:)
I'm aware how to do that. I was being lazy. However, good info for everyone. :props:

Exactly... lots of time when I post information or links it's not directly targeted at the people in the discussion but for all the members and lurkers that will read this thread into the future...

This would be the case ONLY when using surbuf pads. It's pretty simple if you think about it. With surbuf pads, you don't want to use pressure(the weight of the polisher). So, with forced rotation being a non-factor, the non-forced rotational DA's(G110v2, GG 6", PCXP) spin and oscillate FASTER than the Flex 3401, therefore, it will correct better. Get it? :xyxthumbs: This may something that is already widely understood, I've just never seen it mentioned. Who would've ever thunk a DA could out-perform the 3401? Opinions?

FWIW, when pressure is needed, the 3401 would easily out-perform a traditional DA.
Hey Mark,
Thanks for bringing this topic up. I had not considered the surbuf pads before with my PCXP. How much more cut can I expect versus the HydroTech pads or 5.5" flat pads with M105? What's the potential for damage if I keep the surbuf pad clean and use some common sense?

By the way, the 5.5" x 1" flat pads really helped with the Porsche this weekend. Thanks for your suggestions!

I know you tried to PM me, sorry about that, my box is clear now.

In my experience, Cyan pads cuts well and finish better than a surbuf pad, but surbuf pads cut noticeably better! Great pads to use with a DA. They do need to be followed up with a finer pad and polish, but they're awesome. If you use the surbuf as you would ormally use a cyan pad, there no more potential for damage. They're very easy to clean on the fly with just a few strokes with a pad conditioning brush. If you want the most cut with a DA, try surbufs!

Is it also worth mentioning for those reading the size of the surfbuff pads that people should pair with their DA polished for best results? I've noticed people posting larger pad sizes being optimal? Can anyone back this up?

Since I didn't buy the HT pads yet, do you think it smarter to try surbufs first for heavy cutting and stay with the 5.5" flats for now?

I'll PM you later, but thanks for the car wash. I'll try it on my wife's car which is dusty from the beach.

Yeah determined.... missed page 2 of the thread... bad post

FYI, surbuf pads work best with non-diminishing abrasives(M105, Ultimate compound, optimum spray compound). If you don't regularly use any of those as your compounds, I'd go with HT pads. If you do, try the surbufs, and follow with the regular flat pads. Lets say you used M105/surbuf, *sometimes* you may have to follow with M105/orange, then a finer pad and finishing polish.

No problem on the car wash.

No worse than using an aggressive foam cutting pad on a DA Polisher... (with common sense).

The SurBuf Pads cut faster because of the fibers themselves, kind of akin to how a wool cutting pad cuts faster than a foam cutting pad on a rotary buffer.

The only downside is the SurBuf pads leave micro-marring but it's no big deal because most people are going to polish afterwards and the depth of the marring is shallow, so it polishes out easily.

With a 6" backing plate, 7" pad is optimal, but 6.5" works great. too. With a 5" backing plate, 6" pad would be optimal, but 5.5" works great as well.

Surbuf pads that is...

I'd say you should still get some tangerine and crimson HT pads regardless. The only HT pad I think the Surbuffs could replace would be the Cyan... Assuming of course the same criteria mentioned about which type of abrasives you are dealing in which Mark just mentioned.
