Armour Phobic

So how long does an opened bottle of coating last? I ask because I put a ceramic coating on my KN wheels last fall before moving them to the basement and it was over 2 yrs old, can't remember which coating it was

I'm not doubting your advice here guys but how long does it last?

Dbf is right on floaters. Also gyeon says 6-12 months after opening if seal propery. That just depends though. Kinda gotta try it irst to know if your not sure. But 2 years out, personally i would just toss it. Quartz coatings dont store well, like polyzilazine coatings do

ADS quartz says best results use withing 30 days after opening. Ive used it 2 months after on wheels and it was ok. I store all my opened coatings in the fridge

The general rule of thumb is if you see "floaters" within the bottle, it should be binned. Personally, I would strongly hesitate using an open bottle of coating that old.

That's funny you mention that. I used DLux on my valence panel some years ago ( https://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/104854-putting-dlux-test.html?highlight=DLUX ) , and my DLux was expired at the time I used it. The panel long since faded back to crappy looking (it's been almost 8 years since I applied the DLux), and I recently looked at my bottle of DLux, expecting it to be solid. To my surprise it was still liquid, but it did have some glittery-looking flakes in it. Out of curiosity I tried it on a small spot on the panel and it seemed to work fine, restoring the look, at 9 years or something past the expiration date. I was trying to decide if I was going to use Solution Finish on it or something else, still haven't decided.

I thought they could be stored longer after opening.

Depends on the coating, what the brand recommendations or where the bottle is stored in relation to temperature. ADS seem to have the shortest period once opened, something I immediately noticed when I started using their coatings. I have since used the remainder of the wheel coating several months after opening and it was fine. So it's a moving target, personally I wouldn't chance a coating that has been open for more than 12 months.

Yeah mines in the box still, in a closet in the living room but if Gyeon says no @ 2 yrs, it's going on my rims

ADS opened early this year when we took the truck for the local show. Stored it in a cool dry place. My friend ordered a lift kit, nittos, rockstar wheels, and headache rack for the mid year local show. Guess it is still good for the detailing job. Guess we have to get a new one for next year.

Well, looks like Phobic is sold out in less than a week after its intro. Between watching "Keeping it Real" with Brad and DJ, and them talking about how they could introduced this product as Quartz V.2 in a dropper bottle, and watching an (unrelated) application video where the host kept cautioning about spraying your applicator away from the vehicle so as not to get overspray on the vehicle (which I learned a long time ago with something as pedestrian as AquaWax, not to spray it on the car, spray it in the towel, or you can get spots all over your windshield--ask me how I know), whether it wouldn't be better to transfer Phobic to a dropper bottle or pipette it like some of the cool kids on YouTube, if you're applying with an applicator.

Has anyone tried nxtzen 365? I might drop $100 to get it in canada next spring. You can put it in a freezer and it will last for years...

Has anyone put any other coatings in the refrigerator or freezer? That was always a cyanoacrylate trick, where it was supposed to last forever if you put it in the freezer.

Hadn't heard that one before. I just get the tiny tubes so I can use it and then toss it when it solidifies.

Because the forum is acting a little weird for me this morning, I coincidentally just saw an earlier post in this thread where Gyeon says "do not allow coating to freeze"...so there's that. (Post #61)

All my open bottle coatings go i to the fridge once opened. Dont think id try the freezer

How does Phobic compare to Can Coat? Would this product be similar to Can Coat?

No fair, you can't post that and not compare/contrast to Mr. Cartoon.
I've got it on g/f's Cruze and it goes about 1 month. I never cleaned my own tires down to bare rubber before adding Ghost but I did scrub alot of brown off of them before applying Ghost

Ghost is pretty thin, spreads easily, has the blue hue and smells great...stay "tuned"
