The majority of high end car owners would rather go through a car wash than trust it in the hands of a detailer. Not because they shouldn't trust a detailer....but, because unfortunately most detailers can't be trusted. I'm not pin pointing anybody here of course.
Truth is...detailers with skill are not a dime a dozen. Most detailers are ill informed, and taught wrong from the get go. That is why possible customers carry a pre conceived notion that a detailer is going to "hack up" their paint, or "spray paint" their carpets, or leave wax in the cracks, etc.
I think most of us would agree...that if you don't have a detailer you can trust, you probably are better off with a car wash (touchless rather than cloth tunnel, but still). A good detailer, when found...can fix the car wash mishaps. But, until word of mouth spreads to that potential customer...they will do what they have to do. If they have no knowledge about detailing themselves, then car wash it is.
