What is best clay bar system?

The only things I have readily available is the Meg's and Mother's systems are these any good??

ok. ill do this one

Clay is clay, in the us there is only one maker of clay, all clay for the most part is the same.

there are a few exceptions such as policlay (which is really mild) or a more agresive clay desigend for pro use.

I would suggest ordering a block from AG, perhaps worlfgang or DP.

I know this isnt much help but unfortunlty its the truth, the yello elasi-clay is nolonger available so for now we have limited clay selection

That's good info Calgary, I didn't know that. So all manufactureres buy clay from the same place, then slap on whatever price they see fit?

Personally, I have enjoyed using Pinnacle's Ultra Poly Clay.

I'm pretty sure most clay comes from over seas...

I'd grab the Pinnacle clay since it's on sale.. A good clay, at a good price. You can't go wrong.

All clay, in the US, comes from AutoMagic. They unfairly have a patent of detailing clay. Not the material make up, but anything that is called detailing clay. A company in Japan first produced clay in the 1990's and somehow AutoMagic got a patent for that in the US even though they weren't the inventors of the system. Over the last few years there were many great clays made under the Erazer name and were like elastic bands. They were very pliable, didn't break apart, didn't marr, etc. These clays were sold by companies like Poorboy's, Optimum, Zaino, Stuf Automotive, etc, etc, etc. They were big bars and yellow. Even though you may see yellow clay on the market today it isn't the same. Most likely you'll find blocks of grey clay, which is AM formulations that companies buy and sell. Companies can tell CM to make special clay for them but that costs a lot of money and you need to buy in very large quantities. So it technically isn't fair to say that all clay is the same... but it is pretty darn close.

threads like this make me miss my yellow clay :(

everyday i miss yellow clay. It was some good stuff... but i have heard int 2010 we MIGHT get it back

It's 2013, I think.... we need to make friends with people in Australia or somewhere else overseas to import some in for us.... anybody???

Or have a manufacturer make some but sell and market it as something other than 'detailing clay'. I was lucky enough to stock up on 7 bars of the old yellow clay :). Hopefully that'll last me a little while.

i had two bars left until the pitbull got a hold of em and chewed them up....he's lucky to still be alive...

Unless you get get Megs professional fine clay, I'd go with Mothers. Meguiar's consumer grade clay is not as soft, and is harder to work with. This is what you what if you are going with Megs or Mothers:

I like the pinnacle clay too.

Today in econ we were talking about monopolies, the prof. was asking for examples. I wanted to bring up the clay situation, but I had a feeling no one would understand and I would get strange looks the rest of the quarter. :)

Erazer Clay, only 6 more years till the US Market opens up!

I have on order the ulrta fine clay from Pinnacle for vehilces that are new or well well maintained.

Other than that, I buy my clay off Ebay. The only thing I do buy off ebay, but it's cheap. Clay to me, is one of the most expensive parts of detailing, especially since it has a very limited amount of uses. Anyways, I got 5 (200gram) bars for $41. That's only about $8 a bar. Keep in mind that's a 200 gram bar, not a 100gram bar also.

WhiteThunder- How do you like that grey clay compared to others?? I have 3 of those bars and think that they are junk... any thoughts on how to get the clay to knead well and not marr the finish? I have limited experience with it and that was almost too much for me to handle. I've heard that kneading the clay a lot and using it when warm/hot will make the clay work better.... any input?

BTW- Anybody from Hawaii?? I think there is some old yellow clay available there... or anybody from Australia or Europa? Asia? Anywhere there is erazer clay? Please? :)

Well, I've yet to use it. As you can tell, it's all still in the wrappers. They feel decent though, easy to kneed and such. I'll be sure to keep people posted once I get a few cars knocked out with it.

add me to the group buy list if we can get some yellow elastic clay ordered!!!

Pete

The grey clay crubbles alot, and is hard to kneed but it should not marr the paint. I would suggest trying more lube. i have used the grey stuf more then a few times and have never had a problem
