Ok... as most of you know, I have a pristine 2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe that only has 13000 miles and has never even seen rain. As with you fellow AGers, our cars look even better than when new ;)

Anyways, here's my dilemma... I am debating trading her in for a convertible. Wife and I always wanted one. And I want one with a backseat so I can bring the kid/s. I want something with power, looks, and relatively easy to maintain.

I have narrowed them down to 2 choices... my budget is around 35k. I can get a 2011 new 5.0 Mustang GT convertible... or a 2006-7 used BMW M3 convertible with say 20k miles.

Which would you go with??? What would be your decision factors? Looks? Power? Refinement? Exclusivity? Reliability? Cost to maintain?

Another option would be to KEEP my G35 and live with it ;)

Right now I am leaning towards the 5.0.

Keep the G35 and live with it. I just don't see you being happy going from the G35 to a mustang and I'm not sure I would go with a 5-6 year old BMW.

I've owned the new 5.0 for about 3 months now, and Ford has done an amazing job with this one. I love absolutely everything about it, plenty of power to spare, good looks, rides well, etc.... Plus if its your thing, you are only a cold air intake and tuner away from adding close to 30rwhp.

I definitely wouldn't go with an M3, especially if you'd end up with one that has higher miles on it than your G35.

5.0 hands down. Ford has really turned things around since 5 years ago. Their quality just keeps getting better and the power you're going to get out of that motor is well beyond what the G35 has. If I were you, I'd test drive both vehicles on the same day so you can make an accurate comparison between the two. I think you'll end up with the Ford!

The new Mustangs are one sweet ride! I really like what Ford's done with the 2011 model and believe it or not it may go down as the best Mustang to date.

Another vote for the Mustang GT :props:

Stick with your ride unless you already have enough money laying around to retire with. In that case go for the Stang

I am a BMW guy so that would be an easy choice for me. The BMW is a great car, i own an E46. So does my mom, my aunt and uncle. They are great cars. my e46 is a daily driver and has 150,000 miles on it. it works great. The M3 is a little more expensive, but its also A LOT sportier then the others. the new mustangs might have some power, but i have driven all the above and the M3 is definitely a little more car.

Perhaps look into a 1 series vert or CPO 3 series Vert the new 335 is a great car. or might i suggest an Audi A5 convertible?

You only live once. Get the 5.0 and have some fun. MT put the M3 and 5.0 and they were neck in neck in everything. I've test driven the new 5.0, and let me tell you. You start that sucker up and hear that v8 ROAR, you will grin automatically. M3 is a wonderful car, but for me, I gotta love that American Muscle. The interior is very nice, and when you sit behind the wheel, it feels like a solid and powerful car.

I challenge you to take a 5.0 for a drive and not smile the whole way.

Keep the g. I wouldn't buy a B out of extended warranty unless I knew the previous owner and their maintenance schedule.

IME the newer Fords are very well made & reliable. There is nothing like a convertible IMO!

also to mention I think that comparison was against a brand new M, not a used one.

never been a ford guy. I love german cars but the new 5.0 stang is a great value. I hear they're finally going IRS but not til 2012-2013.

I don't like the Mustang or the BMW M3 but what I like really don't matter. Get whatever you and your wife like and best and can afford.

I would go for the 5.0 Mustang.. Although do think if you are financing (not sure if you are...) whether or not you want those payments! I know that is what is keeping me from going out and spending $25k on the car I want.

If you get the Stang, Im sure we all would love to see pics!

Thank you for all the inputs guys. Man, I love this forum... if y'all are not helping me out with tips and tricks for buffing, it's helping me out with my car dilemma.

For those of you who posted that I test drive a 5.0 and an M3, I already have. The 5.0 definitely put a smile on my face. Wife and I test drove the coupe and vert back to back. That power is intoxicating. I remember my wife's comment on the 5.0..."Wow, I am surprised. This thing rides really nice." After that, I punched and she clenched on for dear life. :) My only worry about the 5.0 is that it's a "muscle" car... my wife comments on that everytime. "It doesn't look as nice as your G"..or..."Do you really want a muscle car?" So I find myself thinking twice all the time. Besides that, the 5.0 may have a tendency to be "common"...having other people have the same car as me.

As far as the BMW is concerned. It rode really nice too (of course, it's a bimmer). But it doesn't have as much power as the 5.0. But it's more refined. It doesn't look as good as the G, in my opinion... it's more "common" too, but not to the extent of the 5.0. Then, it's used :( with possibly more miles than my G... then also the maintenance costs :( But it rides like a dream.

The M3 would be like a scalpel. The 5.0 a blunt hammer (a BIG hammer). The G would be like a very sharp kitchen knife (in between the 2 I think).

As far as affording it... no worries. With the trade in value of the G, I plan on paying the whole thing in one swoop... no loan.

sigh... decisions decisions... I should have tallied how many votes you guys have all said. So far, I think the 5.0 is winning by a hair, followed by keeping the G :)

i think you should consider the newer 335 verts and audi's vert offerings. the A5/S5 are great cars. Benz verts are small or ridiculously expensive. the SLK is tiny, the SL is expensive.
