Checking In and Starting Over Almost from Scratch

Glad to see your back!

Not to sound weird buta i did just think to myself a week or so ago while on here if you were still around lol.

Sounds like an exciting time for yinz, hope it all works out for ya. Lookin forward to hopefully seeing the progress, and the new detailing spot.

Best luck in trying to make a choice to find a single or couple brands to build up your supplies

Hope there are more black bears than Grizzlys. I hear Moose can be just as dangerous.

I guess you need to take a bucket and gun when washing your cars.:laughing:

I kept a loaded pump shotgun by the back door when we were in the hot tub until I fenced in the stairs up to our deck

Moose kill more people every year than bears

Mostly tourists who watched too many Bullwinkle episodes I guess and think they are cute and cuddly

It’s also mostly momma mooses that do the stomping because people get between her and her calves

Deadly situation

Anchorage has huge tracts of green belt and forest in the city and the wildlife population is pretty huge

Yeah, the black bear to brown bear ratio is much higher but there are enough of both to go around

Both frequently turn into nuisance animals when they come into neighborhoods and help themselves to trash

They spend a fortune trapping and relocating the bad ones to the boonies but many of them will travel huge distances to get back to the easy life stealing picnic baskets and stuff

Yeah , you can’t get rid of me that easily…

I know one stop shopping is always more of a dream than a reality

I can get a few Griots items locally at a couple of the auto supply places, but not the full line and no BOSS products

Ditto for Chemical Guys, Megs, Mother’s, etc

Just bits and pieces here and there

It’s going to come down to who will ship here for free or at least the cheapest, and of course it’s still got to be the good stuff

I did finally get a replacement for my Griots Ceramic AIO Wax and I had already picked up their ceramic speed shine and ceramic spray wax so I at least have an AIO system to play with when I work out what machines I am going to get

I am honestly leaning towards a G8 and G9

Lots of you guys always throw those out there when a new guy asks what machine to get

I have nothing to prove to anyone so I’m not hung up on biggest or most powerful and time is irrelevant as well so I’m not even thinking about a forced rotation machine

If I didn’t want input I would never have brought up the subjects so everyone feel free to school me on house building, paint correcting, and anything else for that matter

It is gratifying to get all the good natured banter from you guys

That’s why this is such a great forum

If I had to pick one of those to attack me-- give me the moose all day long. Lots of documentation on bear attacks- probably not many deaths by mooses

Have you ever seen a moose up close??

No way in hell I'd want to be anywhere near one of those things on the warpath.

I never said the moose were not dangerous, have you ever seen a bears claw up close? The ones in the wild aren't like the old TV show "gentle ben"

Stop and consider that 600 or so meeses get whacked on the roads here every year

And those are the reported accidents

When you hit one you WILL lose

I put an ARB bumper on my 4Runner just to give me a better chance of walking away from a high speed moosing

Luckily it hasn’t come to that

When we have really bad winters the moose prefer to use the railroad tracks since they are maintained and the death toll really climbs

Hundreds get killed

A locomotive is the only vehicle in Alaska that wins in a moose encounter

The sight of tracks made by paws like that on a sandbar or in the mud when you are hunting or fishing or Berry picking will wake you up real fast

I carry a custom Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt with 335 grain hard cast lead hand loads when I am anywhere off the roads here

There is always an 870 Remington with an extended magazine tube loaded candy stripe (00 buck, slug, 00buck, slug, etc) in a boat or vehicle

Luckily in Alaska they look at you funny if you are NOT armed that way

It’s only common sense up here

I wasn't arguing with you, Marlin Perkins..............:cheers:

The worst part about hitting a moose is that even if you have a Kryptonite bumper, they are so huge that you take their legs out and the body ends up crushing the cab of the car. That's where most MV/moose deaths occur.

Probably not very many recognize or know who he was, I use to watch him every Sunday evening

That’s interesting when you consider Alaska has no state taxes on income, sales, etc although individual boroughs (counties) can levy their own sales taxes

When we lived out in the bush for 8 years the town didn’t even have property taxes

It was hard getting the mortgage company to wrap their minds around that when we bought a house

Plus they give a permanent fund dividend to every resident every year

It’s not cheap to live here by any means but for beauty and freedom it’s kind of tough to beat

More economical to live in Alaska or Hawaii?

Congrats on the new residence

Where we lived in Hawaii had the second highest electric rates in the nation, the groceries were probably 25-30% higher than Alaska, gas was over $6.75 when we left in early July and was $2 a gallon cheaper here in Alaska at the same time, housing in Hawaii is stupid expensive now and very hard to come by (we sold our house 5 hours after meeting with the realtor), on and on

Alaska isn't cheap by any means but land (outside of Anchorage anyway) is still relatively cheap and building costs are half of what they were in Hawaii

We just finally realized that we don't have to own anything in Hawaii to enjoy Hawaii when we want during the winter and then enjoy Alaska and all of our kids and grandkids the remainder of the year
