Checking In and Starting Over Almost from Scratch

We just finally realized that we don't have to own anything in Hawaii to enjoy Hawaii when we want during the winter and then enjoy Alaska and all of our kids and grandkids the remainder of the year

Amen!

I kept a loaded pump shotgun by the back door when we were in the hot tub until I fenced in the stairs up to our deck

Moose kill more people every year than bears

Mostly tourists who watched too many Bullwinkle episodes I guess and think they are cute and cuddly

It’s also mostly momma mooses that do the stomping because people get between her and her calves

Deadly situation

Anchorage has huge tracts of green belt and forest in the city and the wildlife population is pretty huge

Yeah, the black bear to brown bear ratio is much higher but there are enough of both to go around

Both frequently turn into nuisance animals when they come into neighborhoods and help themselves to trash

They spend a fortune trapping and relocating the bad ones to the boonies but many of them will travel huge distances to get back to the easy life stealing picnic baskets and stuff

Yeah I visited in my teens and saw a moose in the front yard. Went to the fridge and grabbed some apples and lettuce to go feed it.

My cousin pops his head out and tells me not to make any sudden moves. I’m 6 foot and the one I was feeding was the Baby!!!! Mom walks up behind us and she was F’n huge.

F that I dropped everything and ran to the door. Luckily she didn’t charge.

Next day we’re going to the movies and one is standing in the middle of the intersection. After about 5-10 minutes I ask why don’t we just go around? Cousins says he’ll charge us.

Literally 30 seconds later a Mitsubishi Eclipse tries to go around and the Moose charged and knocked into a gaurd rail. Car was trashed.

Those things are f’n crazy…

Welcome back. And when I retire would definitely choose AK over HI

Hey Chilly willy i was just thinking where have you been?
Alive and well thank god, get yourself a good LED light bar
and add a orange/amber cover so you can see better in the snow.

Stay locked, and loaded plus shiny :props:

I keep yellow covers in the 4Runner (Hilux Surf?) for the Lightforce spotties, LED lamps in the low beam projectors, HIR bulbs in the high beams, and I replaced the ARB fog lights with some 6 chip LED units that, along with the spotties, are wired to stay on even with the high beams on, and the low beams are wired to stay on as well

I can see pretty damn good and the instant I switch to low beams it looks totally stock with a safe cutoff pattern from the projectors

lol

The downside is I get in the Lexus and even with the factory Bi-LED lamps for high and low and the LED fogs it’s like 1989 halogens after driving the 4Runner at night

We got lit up by some guy the other day who had 3 LED bars running in the middle of the day

It was like looking into the sun

I saw spots for 5 minutes after

Super dangerous to light someone up like that

Very jealous. That's going to look great and be so nice to have!

Now be honest, you blew everything up and planned all this to get that detailing bay, right?

Congrats!

It was all an accident, that's my story and I am sticking to it...

This is a unique opportunity I think some of us sometimes wish we had, a full RESET on the arsenal. Sounds expensive, but I know exactly what I would get and I can tell ya now I would need a very small area to keep it all, because I now know what to and what no to get. I hate throwing old chemicals away....

I'm hoping the craving ends for me at some point lol. I was never into detailing until about 2 years ago.

It passes! I now value a lean set-up and taking as few products out for a wash as possible. It is nice. When I started detailing DIY about 7 years ago or so I had multiple products that do the same thing and my process took my over two hours. Now I am at the 1.5 hour mark for my personal vehicle and can take everything in or out in one trip with my two arms. Before, to move all the stuff in a single trip, I'd need a cart.

What are you using now PP? I feel the same way. Can’t stand having redundant products.

Yeah we have a hell of a lot of people with the LED globe kits that install them into a reflector housing, Not a projector and my mum was driving one night and gave a 4wd
a little flash, she got lit up by about 3-4 lightbars she said it was like a camera flash in
her eye's, she nearly ended up in a ditch soooo lucky.

Weekly wash:
Bilt Hamber Touch-less in a Griot's cannon.
Hyperwash in another cannon and bucket.(I am now using The Rag Company wash pads both sizes)
Optimum power clean for bugs and tougher spots.
Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer mixed with a little ONR for drying aid and maintaining that shine(still using some old Chemical Guys Wooly Mammoth towels that refuse to die).

For wheels(weekly):
Touch-less in an IK hand pump foamer(the 35oz one but would like a larger one)
Hyperwash in the bucket.
Optimum Power Clean for tires and rims(I use the Tuf Shine Tire Brush, two sizes of wheel brushes, and a boars hair brush for lugs nuts and calipers)

For wheels periodically(not weekly):
Sonax The Beast.
Tuf Shine Tire Cleaner.

Exhaust tips:
Eagle One Never Dull

If there is something stubborn or abnormal(tar, bug guts, bird bomb, etc) I use Stoner Tarminator or Optimum Ferrex. Ferrex works surprisingly well on tar.

If for some reason I decide to use a glass cleaner(typically just use one wet and one dry waffle weave towel and no chemicals) I used Optimum's glass cleaner.

You are 110% on this, exactly what I am shooting for

I used to look at the "wall of stuff" with pride but got to that point of deer in the headlights where I couldn't even start a simple wash because it took too many decisions

I was constantly second guessing my products and processes and would change horses in the middle of the stream because I remembered some obscure practice and thought "hey, this might be better than what I am doing now"

I tried to have every product for every possible situation

I realized after a while I was using 10% of my arsenal 90% of the time

That is what I need to focus on and duplicate with as few products as possible just as you have

By learning the subtle nuances of a limited number of products I think I will be better off mentally and certainly better off financially

When I got seriously into detailing I had a bucket, one of those 2 sided household cleaning caddies for my liquids, one big clear tote for my microfibers, a smaller clear tote for a dozen pads, my shop vac and my trusty PC

I was set up and ready in 5 minutes and torn down and packed up in 10

While I have different practices now there is really no need for a whole lot more than that for my home and personal use

I have always been this way in every hobby I have ever gotten into, always gotta have ALL the stuff

My wife was in the service for 25 years and when we moved, they moved us and I just sat back and watched

We carted crap around for 25 years that never saw the light of day or ever got used

After she retired and got her final move on the government's dollar, and it was up to me to make a move physically happen, I got a reality check on just how much crap we had (we still have way more than we need)

When the house in Hawaii sold instantly and I had a very small window to arrange a move back to Alaska we made some hard and costly decisions

I hope with all my heart that the house we are building will be our "forever home" and I don't have to go through this again

I am also hoping that I remember the lessons learned and am able to be content with less "stuff" in my life

ME TOO DAMMIT! Think of how much we could have saved our younger selves (money) as well as older selves (stuff). :)

Good luck with that Mikey. I've been trying to cut back, but alway's want to try something new. It's no different than lets say golf. I don't know how many clubs and putters I've owned through the years.

Just enjoy your new home (garage) and so what if you have shelves of product.:props:

I know, I talk a good game

lol

It’s just all you enablers out there egging me on…

It can’t be my fault

I heard personal responsibility has been revoked so it’s either you guys or the government making me behave this way

I wonder if I can get a grant to help me out and find me a program that reinforces how it’s not MY fault

Society let me down

I want compensation

Oy vey
