2003 Saleen S7 has hard CC. I just did a detail on my dads 2001(ish) black porsche C4 and i have to say the CC is pretty soft, i put micro scratches in the paint with a MF while tring to remove a stubbron spot on the car, if you just wrap a MF aroung your finger and press down and rub it will put scratches in the paint

What makes you think the Saleen has a hard CC?

Really porche with soft clear coat mmmm...interesting as that silver Porche I did I found it to have some what of a hard clear coat...mind you it's been the only porche I detail and the other thing is that it was silver I'm sure a darker color may show the micro marring left by the microfiber as you mentioned. Interesting, I'm looking forward on doing another porche and compare.

Mazda

I just got a call on a Mazda Millenia... Anyone know how hard Mazda clear is?

Is it the same clear as Ford?

Ford is weird, some are easy and some are hard. My truck was fairly easy, but when I did my sisters Explorer I had a beotch of a time with a yellow cutting pad and Optimum Compound.

I've worked on Ford's and domestiuc built Mazda's but I think the millenia is a jdm vehicle..... In my mind Japan clear vs. U.S. clear has to be different... no one is that global.

Scion tC = soft

My 2006 black tC has pretty soft clear coat. The only other experience I have is with a silver 2004 Acura TL, which seems medium but it's difficult to tell because the silver hides swirls VERY well. (requires intense lighting conditions to see any marks from dozens of automatic washes)

Hard / Soft Clear Coats:
Each vehicle assembly plant uses different clear coat paint from one of three major paint suppliers; PPG, DuPont, and BASF products and each of these companies have a range of several differing paints

1. Some vehicle manufacturers have more than one plant assembling the same model of a vehicle; each plant will often use a different supplier for the clear coat paints.

2. Each assembly plant may elect to use one of several OEM paints from PPG, DuPont or BASF clear coat product lines.

3. There are other factors that will have an effect on a clear coat composition; oven drying time, temperature, the relevant age (i.e. how long ago was the paint applied) spot panel repairs (refinish) that are carried out either at the assembly plant or the rail head/port.Each of these variables will affect the hardness or softness of clear coat paint

This is also true of imports assembled in the US; usually one paint supplier is approved for all plants; however each plant may modify the application/bake process in order to meet production demand. This may also affect which has the harder or softer clear.
