Coated my tires today and WOW,

Well because it was cold last night and damp, now its warming up so the road is sweating, the fresh car wash and TW coating is trashed. Time will tell if it held up, haven't used this in the winter monthes yet, so applying it when the temps are near 50 down in the garage might not be good enough for proper bonding, we'll see soon enough I guess:rolleyes:

Time to invest in an infrared curing lamp? :D

Might have to make a trip to Harbor Freight for something like that! I know the people who park down in the garage probably think I'm nutz already, imagine an orange heat lamp parked at each tire/wheel combo for 15 minutes at a time, straight jacket here I come:eek:

Lolz

Well I took the car through the local touch-free near my work as the car was literally gray from the salt dust, so much infact that the rear window still shows a very light haze from all the salt dust. I usually do the windows before I go in but this is when I drive in the rain and don't do a rinseless wash.

I'm happy to announce that the tires look great and the car looks waaaay better, it was really, really bad with all the salt dust:(

Coated my winter tires today, before installation. It was about 45F here at midday and raining, so a little cold and very damp. It took 6 attempts at cleaning each tire until there was no more browning. (I know the instructions didn't say so, but I followed the Tuf-Shine method, to be sure the surface was super-clean.) I used Zep 505 and Mother's Foam cleaner alternating between each pass.

Because it was cold and damp, it took about an hour after each coat for all areas to be dry to the touch. The flat spots took 15 min, but the grooved and raised areas took much longer. I put on 2 coats, and tires look really shiny, clean and dripping wet. Didn't have time to swap the tires in on my van - rushing to a party. Will do so tomorrow and maybe take some pics outdoors during the day!! Can't wait. :xyxthumbs:

Not sure if you saw what I ran into Blade but I did 3 coats w/ a 10 minute cure time inbetween down in the garage and it was about 55 degrees down in the garage, it sat all day and was then taken out in the wet, salty roads. The next day they were covered in salt and then cleaned about a week later. Upon drying I noticed that the tires had a new look and that was about it. A week later I re-cleaned them and applied 2 more coats and its held up great so far. IMO the winter tire rubber soaked it real good, now its good to go:thumbup:

Looking forward to seeing pics and hearing about your endurance results!

Well, I got up early this morning and decided to put on a 3rd coat. I let the tires stand for about 2 hours, after which they seemed dry even in this cold & damp weather we have, and I swapped them in on the van. The 3rd coat created more shine than I'm used to, I prefer it toned down a little. But we'll see the how the rest of the week goes. We're in for more rains the next 5 days. My summer tire dressing (Opti-Bond) can't last 2 days in the misty incessant Vancouver rain.

Winter tires - Two coats 1 hour apart, then 14 hours later, a 3rd coat. Ambient Temp when applied was 45°F (lower than manufacturer's recommendation):

Nice winter set up, wish I could run steelies, the 15's for my car will not clear my brakes unless I run spacers!

We got rain for a chunk of the day and its a slight snow right now, so my coating will be tested, between coming into work and going home and the upcoming rinseless tomorrow morning, we'll see what's what:props:

I did a rinseless yesterday with ONRW&W followed by D156.
Decided to snap a pic to represent a day of driving. The double application is 5 weeks old with a single reapplication after a week.
Driving in snow/rain/dry and salt dust.

The tires clean up so easy it's nutty. They have a low sheen now but whatever. It is a S4 pic with no flash so quality is mediocre.

So Spazz, you did multiple coats and then another a week later, quick question, why did you do this? Did it seem to soak into the rubber after a week? Was this your first time using it on those tires by chance?

Mine are completely white from salt. I'll see how clean they get when I get to wash it next week. They've been putting down so much salt that you are actually driving on top of a layer of salt. It's crazy.

Yep they were new. After hitting the cold they got this wax whiteness film. One more coat did it.
Mine were white yesterday before I blasted them then microfiber rinseless with D156.
It it supposed to be near 50 Saturday or Sunday here(Madison,WI) so I am hoping for another couple coats. I will just be applying without using dedicated tire cleaner for winter.

I too had the same deal w/ my new snows. It seems temp plays a roll with this product, so next winter I will prep and coat the winter tires well before they go onto the car. It was maybe 55 down in the garage for the 1st coats but I suspect that because winter tires are made of a special rubber, it soaked in real good and needed an additional coat.

Update: It's only been 4 days but I need to redo the right side tires because as everyone knows, the day after putting fresh coats, all 17-year-old kids promptly curb the tires! :)

The left side tires look pretty awesome even after 4 days of monsoon rains. Sitting in the garage some hours after a drive in the rain, the tires still look wet but they're actually already dry.

Well Blade, maybe set of curb feelers will be in your stocking this year, LOL! (Google "curb feelers" if need be Blade)

...but seriously, SH!T happens as they say, don't sweat it;)

Quick update: It's been 20 days since I last put on the initial 3 coats. I live in the Pacific NW rainforest (Vancouver BC) where it's been raining almost everyday. We got a break from the rain on Christmas day but the roads remained wet. I actually don't remember the last time the roads have been dry at all! (We've had incessant rain since early October, sometimes very heavy.) The good thing is that there's been no snow at all. So these tires haven't seen any salt - just lots of rain, dirt and grime!

Haven't washed the tires in 2 weeks and they've lost a little shine, although a lot darker compared to the dirty tires I've seen on the road or parking lot. After washing the van, I gave the tires a quick wash with left-over ONR and a dedicated tire sponge. Here's one of the tires. The shine bounced back and I think it looks great!! That's a tire bombarded by 3 weeks of constant rain. Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel (which I've been using for years) doesn't last 2 days in this kind of weather - the reason I don't use it in the winter. Well folks, I think I've found a winner! :)

Sweet.
I did my Artics again 2 weeks ago with a quick microfiber TW endura cleaner/water rinse rubdown.
They were all looking good until I rubbed the curb last night with my right front, trying to get around the neighbors car.
Time to do a simple recoat.

They do in fact look great😎

My tires are coming up on 1 month and still look like that. I wash my car about twice a week and at least use my Bleache White once too! There's NO sign of browning, just a nice matte black finish. I can "kick it up a notch" with a spray of rinseless made as a QD even👍

You know, you may have a point there. I actually was thinking that it was the ONR that bounced the shine back because of the inherent "gloss enhancers" built into ONR Wash & "Shine".

Well, I guess my next wash would be traditional shampoo, let's see how this coating behaves! But no matter what the reason, I'm a happy camper in the middle of winter! :dblthumb2:
