Coated my tires today and WOW,

I thought I would give the Turtle Wax a try, since there are $3 coupons attached to the recent shipment of product. My initial impression is that it is shinier than Tuf Shine Tire Coating, and really shiny compared to Tuf Shine Black Restore, which is what I have been using.

How many coats did you apply?

I had a chance to use the product a few days ago. Here's my thoughts.
First thing I noticed was how easy the product went on and how little product was used. I applied three coats and it was very glossy, almost too glossy. It doesn't look like a traditional tire dressing, almost plastic-like.
It dried to the touch but I noticed some spots where it looked like it cracked and needs reapplied.
I hate the fact that they put black dye in it because I can't use it on white letter tires.
The tire cleaner that's included is also very weak.
I like the applicator used to apply the coating too.

Did you clean the tires w/ the provided tire cleaner?

Yes. I thought it worked pretty well, enough that I wish TW would sell it separately.

What is Black Restore?

It's a Tuf Shine product that is meant for trim restoration, but that can also be used as a tire blackener/dressing. It looks like black water, like the TW product, but it is not glossy, so it can be used alone for a less shiny dressing/coating, or as a base for TS clear coat.

Yes, that's also my concern of the color of the liquid. I got some color letter on tires too. My new mounted tire installer introduced me the Croftgate Tire Shine. Not only for tire dressing & wheel shine, it's also a waterless tire and wheel cleaner. No need to rinse. But just not very high glossy shine. I wrote a full review of this product at a separate topic. You can read it first if you would like to have a try.

And another cause I have no idea how to post more than one pic in a post

I'm no pro just a light hobbiest. Do rinseless and waterless washes at home. Car wash in the winter

Tires look great Matt and as far as posting more than one pic, well, you just do it! I hit the enter button to move down the cursor and then you, well, post another pic.

Here is what my tires look like 11 days later. They've been cleaned once with Adam's Rinseless wash. They don't look bad, but I guess there's something stubborn on there that gave the coating trouble initially (check a page or two back). I'll let it go as is through the winter clean them well and reapply (I still have over half the bottle left).

I know my wheels are filthy, but they are sealed and I don't like using rinseless on them so, I'll get them next week.

Sy, not sure what the issue is with getting the TW tire coating to work on those tires, they should look "just applied" after only one rinseless wash for sure, that is unless you drove through a monsoon, LOL!

Maybe some more scrubbing is in order and maybe apply 3 coats with the normal 10 minute dry time inbetween. I really want this to work for you because I really like your car, especially the color! That said, when do the dark bronze Volks go on??!!

Which tire cleaner did you use? If it was the supplied cleaner, it's not going to remove everything.

I used Adam's APC which is as effective or more effective than Tuf Shine. Then I used the Turtle Wax cleaner just because the directions said to.

I was hoping to update you guys on my work van as I usually get it washed every 2 weeks but the weather has sucked for the most part this week, this coming Monday shows rain too, so it will be over 6 weeks when I do get to wash and wipe down the tires with a mf towel afterwards. I know this, the tires are dirty anf this will be the best test to date. That said, remember its 1 coat and its going to be over a month and a half old!

Stay tuned!!

Thanks for this thread….

I recently went out to my local Autozone and picked up a kit for $17.

I live out here in the high desert so i'm curious to find out how long this'll last.

I'll post an update when I begin to see the shine fade……..

Don't forget to get the rebate form online. They have it on their facebook page. Gets you $7 back.

Just a heads up guys. I picked some up at my local Wally world tonight. It was $13 with a $3 off coupon right on the box. So $10.xx out the door. Can't wait to try it out and hopefully get the same results you guys are experiencing.

The cleaner your tires are the better this works, it's not hard to work with like tough shine can be but still the cleaner the better, it will last longer.

Also like all tire shine products, different tire brands seem to work better with products than others.

I washed my work van yesterday and they still looked pretty good after 48 days, today will be day #49 and I will snap a pic. I washed the van at the local drive thru wash and went about my day of work, then at the end of the day, I stopped by car and grabbed my ECO TOUCH waterless wash and an mf towel and sprayed the tire and hubcap and will post the pic today. I do this to even out the finish. The pic will be posted when I start work in less than 3 hrs...stay tuned, this will day #49!

***UPDATE***

Its day #49 for the single coat I applied on July 10th. Ofcoarse it doesn't look like it did 3 weeks ago, its been raining a lot and the van went 3 weeks between washes, keeping in mind its driven 150-200 miles a day. Here it is after an ECO TOUCH waterless wash wiping last night, picture taken before I headed out this morning:
