Coated my tires today and WOW,

Down in the garage my car showed 51 degrees.

For those that just coated their tires, what was the ambient temp? I'll be swapping in my winters this weekend and thinking of coating them but the temps here have been hovering at the 40s. What do you guys think?

It doesn't get that cold here in So Cal. I think the last time I used this it was in the mid 70's.

I think it will just take longer to cure at 40 something I did mine in my basement but would not hesitate to do 40 something but probably wait 30 mins instead of 10 before coats bit obviously you can test by touch for curing

It's been about 45 in my (unheated) garage. Outside temp is around 35. But I just checked the weather report for this weekend, it's going to be warmer, nudging into the 50s, but wet.

Good idea - I'll wait longer between coats, if it's below 50s. And I'm thinking they're really just winter tires, so I guess I can experiment a little.

So we has some snow squalls yesterday and I drove home around 9:30 last night and it was 9 degrees and the road was shiny. I bring this up because my freshly coated tires are now coated with something else now....pics coming this afternoon:rolleyes:

One day later after a snow squall and damp/frozen road on the way home last night:

It just goes to show how much salt has been laid down already here! That said, tomorrow its supposed to be a dusting to 1" and by the weekend its rain and low 40's, wash all that crap away:thumbup:

Well, I got bitten in the butt now.

It snowed about an inch and a bit of heavy, wet stuff last night. I was driving the wife's Accord with decent AS tires and got home no problem at 1:30 am. The mercury dropped and the slush froze hard, but my street and local residential streets were mostly bare. My wife took her car to work in the morning and it was bright and sunny. With no more snow in the forecast and temperatures climbing to the 50s next week I decided to drive carefully on my worn S-drives (summer compound and tread) and left for work about ten minutes early.

Somewhere around 6:00 pm the snow machine started up again and we had near-blizzard conditions until around 11:30 pm. Total accumulation of around 4" and temperatures in the low 20s. I was supposed to finish up at 12:30 am, go home for a few hours then come back for a 5:00 am start. My better judgment made me decide to camp out the night here rather than fight my car's electronic nannies all the way home and then back again. I'm about to go look for a darker corner to take a nap.

Looks like I'll be donning those winter tires tomorrow afternoon.

SameGuy, PLEASE be careful! The price of a set of snow tires is cheaper than your deductable and time away from your car, plus you don't want the hassle of the car being down! Not only that, the paint never is going to be up to your standards, especially being an AG'er.

Not only are the snow tires safer but they give you the test bee for the TW tire coating, a fresh set of shoes:thumbup: Keep us posted on what you buy and include pics.

Props to you for having the intelligence to not drive. What do you do for a living that has such atrocious hours?

I stayed at work overnight and had a mundane morning shift.

I'm a very small cog in a very big machine that the CEO calls "a high quality industrial transportation company". It is the world's most profitable airline.

So the day after I coated the brand new snows the road was coated with salt and the car was a mess! I washed the car, including the tires and when I took the car outside I noticed the shine went down quite a bit. I believe its a combination of a couple things, temp down in the garage and the rubber on the snows.

Has anyone else coated their snows and noticed the shine going down after a wash? I mean they're still black and look like new tires but not like my spring/summer tires though. I should also say I used the tire cleaner that came in the TW kit also when cleaning.

My first winter coatings are coming this week, but all on older rubber. But I plan to scrub with 505 again.

On my new General Altimax Artics I had them inside when I coated them.
I did 2 coats inside then threw them on. After a week they kinda had the new rubber whiteness coming thru. I coated them 2 more times, rode thru the salt and sprayed them off with just the rinse at a u-blast-it. They rinsed cleaner than the car and maintained the look.
I didn't clean them at all since they were new.

I'm going to clean them and apply 1 coat and see how it goes;)

So I did a rinseless last night and this morning I re-applied the TW tire coating. Its only been about 2 weeks since the original application and the day after I drove on some wet, salt melted roads and it took me about a week to wash the car. Upon drying the tires and going outside I noticed the tires to be just matte black, no sheen at all. Now I'm sure if this had something to do with the temps I applied the coating in or the fact that the tires are brand new and I didn't get all of the shipping coating that is sometimes on brand new tires. Either way, I cleaned them last night and its been re-applied, we shall see how it goes.

I also wonder if its the fact that snow tires are made of a special rubber that stays pliable in cold weather, could have something to do with it alsoFeed back please

Do you think it could have been the immediate exposure to salt and snow? I wonder if results would have been different had you had driven around for a couple of days in dry conditions. Maybe there is a cure time?

Well it did sit all day after the initial 3rd coat was applied and I'm not sure about cure time though.

I just got into the car and its showing 47 degrees down here in the garage and it says on the box atleast 55 and no more than 85 degrees, so I'm really thinking its temp sensitive. That said, it was mid 50's when I applied initially, so take that FWIW.

I guess we'll see but the tires looked new, just didn't have that sheen, that's all. As long as they stay lookin' new and not brown I'll be happy:thumbup:
