I realize this is somewhat subjective, but is there a general consensus on what is the best, most effective compound and pad combination for paint correction using a 15 or 21mm DA?

While there really is no 'one size fits all paint' if I'm looking to do something heavy I'll start with M101 on wool or Megs D300 on microfiber and go from there.

Pads are usually microfiber or wool, if above doesn't work I'll look to Jescar, Scholls or Sonax compounds.

Thanks for the reply BudgetPlan1. Yea, the wool pads do seem to be one of the most common "go-to" as far as pads go.
I am kind of expecting many suggestions for Megs M101/105/D300 products as well. We'll see...

I do like the M100 and M101 compounds. They cut great and in general finish pretty good. The downside is the dusting of either product. Especially when used with an aggressive pad such as a microfiber cutting pad. D300 on a microfiber cutting pad would be my choice if I was looking for an all around performing Meguiar's compound.

Sonax Cut Max would be my first choice at the moment. It just seems to be an all around solid performer with various pads.

CarPro Clear Cut is pretty good. It does dust but in general it is pretty good.

I have gotten really picky and generally like products that have almost zero dusting.

•Since I don’t want to see anyone’s
expectations altogether dashed:

-Over the last few years, I’ve never gone
any more aggressive than using Meguiar’s
UltimateCompound (on wool/foamed-wool
pads) for our vehicles.

I personally stay away from Meg’s compounds except D300. Too bad Meg’s won’t update the 100/101/105 formulas to the user friendly formula like D300.

That being said:

Sonax Cutmax is my typical go to and favorite compound.
Wizards Mystic Cut, Jescar compound, Menzerna 400, Meg’s D300 also get out into the mix depending what the test spot reveals

CarPro ClearCut has been stunning lately with Meguiar’s Microfiber Cutting Disc.

I use D300 and Menzerma FG400 on Megs Microfiber cutting pads. Both work great.

Which wool pads are you referring to? I can’t think of any wool pads that would qualify as most common go to pads for a 15/21mm DA.

I considered buying some of those Purple Foamed Wool Pads not too long ago when they were running a great deal on them but held off once I read just about every comment and recommendation included using them with a Flex polisher.

Yes, I hate dust. I'm done with stuff that dusts like crazy.

Thus far I'm enjoying 3D One, and Poorboy's SSR 2.5 and 3.

Pads switch depending on the tool. PC gets green foam, or the orange/black microfiber.

When I use the Rupes I use their stuff. Zephir/Blue microfiber, and suffer through the dust...

The UHS rocks though.

Megs D300/Microfiber (which the best shops around town use).

Megs Ultimate Compound..

For heavy cutting its a Meguiars Microfiber Cutting disc and Sonax Cutmax or Griots FCC for me. Great combo. Other good compounds are D300, FG400, M105 (besides the dusting) and Jescar correcting compound.

Me too. While FCC doesn’t have quite the cut as CutMax, it finishes better. I’ll reach for either, depending on the circumstances. These are my favorite. They can also be used on less aggressive foam pads(especially FCC) for 1-steps on harder paints.

Nobody here uses the PBMG brands?

McKee’s Fast Compound is among my favorite compounds.

Will someone please chime in with their experiences using the Purple Foam Wool Pad on a 15/21mm DA? Info, pics, results, I was hoping to find out more about this combo..
