DFB's Soapy Notes

Send some over to DFB for testing purposes

It would probably only cost $400-$500 to send a $190 bucket of soap so why not

For science and stuff

Just out of curiosity I have tried putting stuff in a cart from a couple of Oz detailer supply places

I know at least once you couldn’t even enter the USA as a shipping destination

Another time it was “we will get back to you with a shipping quote” and they never did

I wasn’t seriously thinking of buying anything from Oz, just fooling around

Just looking at their prices gives me heart palpitations, even with the exchange rate

I’m not sure how DFB, Big Dave, and Tas do it

Now you know how we feel trying to get "the good stuff" from outside of Australia. So your shipping costs from Australia is the same pain as trying to get stuff into Australia. Most put it in the too hard basket and don't offer international shipping, or they price it so high so as to discourage your order. And that applies to both shipping from or to Australia.

As for prices, everything here is steep. It's a combination of exchange rates, shipping costs, and taxes. On the flipside, our minimum hourly rates are significantly higher.

Thanks, I have only used AF so I am not up on BH products

On a separate note, how are you liking the MTM wide mouth adapter and bottle?

Interesting question.

When MTM revealed the updated PF22, some were heavily critical of it. A couple of Youtubers ripped shreds out of MTM in suggesting it was a lazy or band aid move. In particular, the fact that the foam cannon body itself didn't change to accommodate a new bottle, that the adapter plate was a cheap and nasty move.

The thing is, if you look some of the other foam cannons that offer a "wide mouth", they have a similar arrangement where the foam cannon body is screwed onto a plastic adaptor that then winds onto the bottle. The MTM solution differs in that the adaptor attaches to the new bottle with a bayonet style fitting.

Some also suggested that the bayonet fitting was imprecise, inconsistent and difficult to work with. Even my supplier notes the following -

"Please be aware that, as this is a new product, it may initially feel tight and sturdy. However, with regular use, the foam cannon bottle will become more flexible and easier to handle over time."

Thing is, I experienced none of that over the four I have in rotation. I actually like how this bayonet fitting works, its quicker and more convenient to remove than screwing on and off like the competitors or older MTM foam cannons. The adaptor cap also has a rubber o-ring to ensure a snug fit and no leaks. I also like that I could convert an older non-MTM foam cannon to this wide mouth format.

I've found that you remove it from the bottle while gripping the adaptor, not the cannon body......................

Overall, I think the update is better than many would have you believe.

Speaking of soap, and not sure if it’s been brought up, but has anyone used or considered “Incredible Suds”?

It’s been getting alot of hype on youtube recently so just out of curiosity I looked it up to check the price and they want $100 for a freaking gallon of plain car wash soap. IMO that’s ridiculous.

Has anyone tried it? Would anyone be willing to pay that much for soap that doesn’t appear to do anything extraordinary?

Your usual comprehensive review, thanks

Did the kits come with the weighted ball/filter as well?

The MTM website shows it is supposed to but the dealer ads I have seen don't mention that

The lack of a weighted pickup ball was always a really cheap move in my book, considering what the MTM costs

Their website says $75 a gallon and it says you can use as little as 1/2 oz to 3-4 gallons of water, but even at that super low dilution I doubt I would cough up $100 a gallon because that's about what it would cost to get it to me

It reminds me of the 3D super soap in a nano pail that I would still like to try

It’s $100 at that other place online.

It’s crazy, Meguiars Hyper Wash has that same dilution and sells for $35

And slow down, you’ve still got that pail of Zep you need to buy… lol.

I always used to think that those "commercial/industrial" car soaps were sooooooo powerful, and I think maybe they used to be, but I can tell you the soap they use at the wand washes around here has sudsy foam, and that's just about it

You can cover a winter driven car with a layer of that crap and think to yourself that the road film must be just melting off but no, you rinse the suds and unless you are content to actually pressure wash the gunk off it isn't going anywhere

I guess they dumbed it down, even the "wheel pre treatment" setting doesn't do much anymore

Superior Products has a truck wash I wish I could get my hands on just to see how it worked on salt and traffic film, but no one up here carries it

I don’t recall the soap being extraordinary at the local coin op, but damn I sure wish I knew exactly what their power washer setup is because their wand rinses soap proper.

Even having to use a long wand that thing is leaps & bounds better than what mine does here at home when it comes to post wash rinse.

Recently I’ve been starting to switch back to the normal garden hose Orbit nozzle for rinsing the soap away. Works much better & faster. Good thing for quick connects.

I know what you mean about just using the garden sprayer because sometimes it seems like the pressure washer is just churning up more suds, especially on grilles

Plus I have PPF on the grille and I have to keep remembering not to go crazy with the PW

Especially noticeable on soaps that don't rinse off well. I bought a little shut-off valve and mounted it at the end of the garden hose so I can pop it off the pressure washer and connect a garden hose sprayer without having to walk over to the shutoff at the hose bib. Seriously thinking about getting a nice (pricey) garden hose sprayer now.

From what I can see, the retrofit kits don't come with a weighted pickup. However, the complete foam cannon now includes a weighted pickup tube.

I actually stole a weighted filter off a failed Kwazar spray head, works a charm! I've found this to further improve the usability of the unit.

Incredible Suds is an extremely good soap. It foams like a champ, thicker than Hyper Wash in fact, its ultra slick and it smells amazing. It's also one of the best in terms of free rinsing ability, a huge advantage over Hyper Wash.

But yes, it's pretty expensive. If you guys think its pricey, then you would be shocked to learn that a gallon here retails for $179.95!!!!! It's good, but not $180 a gallon good. In fact, a 4-litre bottle of Reset is "only" $129.95, a gallon of Hyper Wash $95. But.....................I do like using it.

From the original post -

DIY Detail Incredible Suds - a pH "balanced" soap that can be dialed up or down depending on your cleaning needs. While it can be used in a bucket, its main claim to fame is the ultra-thick foaming ability. So thick that DIY had to put out an updated dilution ratio to dial it back some. The blueberry-like fragrance is enjoyable, as is the slickness and excellent cleaning ability. But what makes it a winner in my opinion is the exceptionally easy rinse off, I have never used a soap that rises so freely. I could see this aspect being very attractive to pro-detailers looking for time efficiency. A strong favorite of mine.

Lubrication – 8/10
Cleaning Ability 9/10
Scent – Candy
PH Level – Balanced but variable
Consistency – Moderately thick
Foam Quality - Ultra Thick
Overall Rating – 9/10

I’m glad someone else noticed that HW is not the best rinsing soap, and neither was Gold Class

This is why I asked about the weighted filter

Very clearly shows to be part of the kit; but, as you say, none of the retailers seem to include it, rather they offer it for another $4

MTM WIDE MOUTH BOTTLE & ADAPTER UPGRADE KIT - MTM Hydro

Hmmmmmm

Interesting, the original product listing did not include the weighted filter with the adaptor kit. This must have changed in the last month or so.

It's definetly a thing, not enough to discourage me from using Hyper Wash though.

For the record, I've found the following to offer better than average free rinsing properties -

- DIY Detail Incredible Suds
- Opti-Coat M-Wash
- WoWo's Detailer Shampoo

Closely followed by -

- NV Snow
- Carpro Reset
- Bilt Hamber Touch-less

I have NV Snow and Snow+, I just haven't tried them out yet

I use HW as well, its the best option for me in an affordable and easy to obtain tier 1 soap

Almost every product we use has a tradeoff of one kind or another, or so it seems

INCOMING -

Some of these I have already reviewed earlier in the thread (Radiance and Nano Magic), the focus here will be on soaps with "protection" in them. I typically don't use these products, so I'm wondering if there is a soap here that could change that.
