DIY Full Flow brass garden hose shut-off valve

This thing is so beautiful that i don't want to use it lol.
But my old dramm unit started leaking after i build this shut off, so i am forced to use it.

PS: When i use my hose, whenever i am done, i just throw it on the drive way floor, so my dramm is pretty beat up.
Does any of you guys do that too? OR do u actually place it on the floor softly lol?

I used to just drag it and drop it on the driveway when I had my previous el-cheapo shut off valve, but not anymore.

The larger shut off handle acts as a hanger for the side of my bucket! I also like how cool it looks now, so I take care not to reel in the hose with it dragging across the concrete.

I am actually careful but not because of the shut off. I am worried more about the pricier fire hose nozzle. The cheap trigger sprayers break almost by looking at them. I was tired of spending money on cheap sprayers and do not want to replace the fire hose nozzle.

My next step will be to replace my leader hose to a 3/4" piece and see if there is a hose reel with a 3/4" connector & internal plumbing.

I've actually got an idea for this too. They make beefy ones that are full flow, but they're expensive as hell (same people that make those full flow WDs). I'm going to try to take a regular reel and replace the pipe parts to make it full flow. I'm tired or wrapping the thing up manually, and then having to untwist it constantly.

I usually drop it lol. I'm less concerned with the damage factor, and more with the dirt factor. It gets old having to rinse my hands off all the time. I got some basic clamps from Lowes for about $0.65 each, and I'm going to clip those onto the bucket to try to use as a holder.

I've got a cheap cup holder from Walmart for my nozzle. I wasn't concerned until I noticed dirt in the output of the firehouse nozzle. Had to stop tossing it on the ground.

Wow that's a great idea! So simple, and I bet it works really well. You should have told me lol.
Last week Lowe's had these metal clamps on clearance for like $0.65. I clip one on the edge of the bucket and just set the nozzle in the handle. It moves a little, but works so far.

I can't image how the clamps work....
Can one of you kind folks snap a picture of it in action please lol

Also, i bought some new brass QD, not the eleys one. But something complete brass, however after 1 rain all these brass fittings are showing sign of oxidation. Is there something i can apply to these brass fittings to prevent the oxidation or stains? Whatever it is on the surface of the brass?

Thanks Blue Beast, et al, for the excellent info. I just put together the shutoff valve system you showed. It's definitely solid, but heavy! Would hate to have it slip out of my wet hands onto the wife's car! Also purchased the Eley disconnects, and just for comparison something called the "Worlds Best Brass Garden Hose Quick Connect Adapter Set". Its solid brass and feels like a quality piece, much better than the HD Gilmore QD's, which seem to deteriorate much too quickly. It looks to have a 1/2 inch opening though. If 3/4 is not a requirement, these look like they will hold up.

Once again, thanks for the excellent discussion.

Can't help ya with the oxidation, but I'm sure someone here knows about it. Here are a couple pics of the clamps holding the hose, one with a nozzle attached, one without. When there is an attachment, and the shut off is set to on, the lever makes for a nice handle to keep it in place. The bucket is filled with water, which is why it doesn't topple over. I keep 4 filled buckets around the car to keep the hose from getting stuck under a tire or flipping up and hitting the paint.

Lol yeah I wouldn't worry about damaging it. Worst case: that rubber part comes off so you plasti-dip the handle.

Like I said, I'm just trying to keep it clean so I don't get dirt on my hands that'll then get transferred into the wash bucket, onto the mitt, and onto my paint. The 4 buckets are nice for that too; I use them to quickly rinse my hands or the end of the hose.

I also notice dirt in the nozzle of my pressure washer or fire hose nozzle too. I only imagine that it's mixing with the water or shooting out at high speeds against my paint.
