Does your Griot's DA say PROFESSIONAL random orbital on the side?

I noticed that when you choose the 25' cord option in the store it says HD model so maybe there was a difference but I see that's not the case. I guess more detective work is needed, keep digging Mark :dig::props:.

Maybe I can put some light (or maybe worse the thing) here....
I bought mine from a amazon seller, june last year, it does says professional.... all great.. 25-ft cord.... stupid power.... on 6 it was just crazy... eat pads, won't stop with almost all my 200 pounds over it... can do correction on 5 or 4.5 without a problem... but I always used it on 5 or 5.5..... great machine, I just think it vibrates a lot.... now here for the fun part.....
Here in Brazil we are apparently selling Megs and Griot's rebranded machines bought directly from China....
We have both a 500w and 900w model.... but both 220v... outside it's a Griot's, no doubt... I just don't know the insides...

DA Polisher v8

Maybe Griot's is selling there the 500w 110v model now and is still advertising it as a 840w one ?
Note that there's a 0.4kg difference in weight ? Maybe you can check if there's any weight difference between your machines Mark...

I mean... just speculation, but it could be...

That makes two of us!!
Yes i am one of those newbies. I just ordered one this weekend sale and its BO. If its not the same as yours (Professional) i will be looking for a new DA. I will cancel my order or if to late will return it . Reason i bought is because of power difference compared to PC- DA. I will probably then go with PC.

Sorry I mislead you ^

I was pushing that unit hard back when I had the first one. That thing was a beast! This new one isn't terrible, but it doesn't have near the power as my last one. I can stop it on 6 with my bare hand. Try that with the old unit and it would've cut your fingers off

This thread is going to require me to pop a valuim soon :(

Maybe my speculation is right.... they must be selling the low power model, as we have here in Brazil... but don't get it wrong... they are very close in price.... maybe they don't even know they got a less powerful machine from China...

I find myself constantly reaching for the speed dial trying to turn it up

On the old one I would have to turn it down sometimes just to keep control of it

I'm going to need a psychiatrist :(

This is mind bending in sure this post is iritating many people hey mike, nick, meghan anyone help? Has anyone emailed yet or gotten a response from griots?

I just picked one up last week based off everyone's recommendations of it being the most powerful DA available. Mine doesn't say professional on the side but the box claims it has the 850W motor ..

So basically, people were/are getting different version of what was believed to be the same product? That sucks. How can you make sure you're getting the "good one" before you place an order?

VERY interesting!

It would make sense if it's 500W, because that's what the power feels like. The PC and Meg's are both right around 500W, and the power of the "unprofessional" Griot's seems right around the same.

This would be false advertisement on Griot's part, and they could get into huge trouble for this. I have a hard time believing they would do so. :dunno:

Did you buy yours from AG or another vendor? I think upon getting mine this Thursday if it is not the "professional" I am just going to send it back without even using it and then start calling around to see who has this so called other version. Really wish someone from AG could confirm this with griots and let us know....

Frank,

I emailed Griot's. I'll post the response in the thread once I hear back.

Yes I agree. That's why I think if its the case to be the 500w version. They probably don't know it is.....

Well, the one I just bought on eBay, the guy didn't have anymore in stock. I'm gonna have to find another professional unit.

If someone wanted to do a real experiment you could get an ammeter and measure the current between the original model and the latest.

The specs say it is a 7 A / 850 W motor. If there is a motor difference, it will show up in the amps.
