DuraGloss #111 clearcoat polish....thoughts

Primo, you spoke about Klasse leaving swirls after using it, I assume your talking about KAIO? If so, its not abrasive at all, so its never to be used for paint correction, just cleaning or a quick coat to "tie you over" or right before you apply KSG.

I'm going to be picking up DG's rinseless wash when I'm out of my DP gallon, has anyone here used it and how is it?

I take it your talking about 932. I have been using it for a while now and with Aqua Wax already added it works great. As a detailer I have tried several times on the Daughters Twilight Blue Metallic and had streaking every time. Used on my Driftwood (Silvery) or the Wife's Sand colored Toyota the QD is fine. I emailed DG on this and will post it in a different thread.

Used the rinseless, aquawax, 111, 901, and 501. Just got a gallon of rinseless, 901, and aquawax if that tells you what I thought of them. I will get more 501 when I run out. Just got some 601 to try with the 501 & 111. I do have some I would trade if interested.

If you mixed it at the recommended ratio then I agree, it can streak even with distilled water. Cut back the ratio or mix 3oz in a 32oz bottle instead of 16oz., that should take care of most streaking.

Thanks Richard
I had already emailed DG to get their official response and put it in another thread. When I first mixed this I thought it was pretty strong compared to ONR. I guess I will mix some like I did with ONR and see how it goes as it is easier to add than take away.

Dave

Can you add the link or info here? I'd like to know the official word and not just my tinkering.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I wasn't too far off. If you mix at the recommended ratio and are careful, you can actually use it as a waterless wash.

I hope I remember the 2oz per 16 of water ratio by the time I need to buy more rinseless wash. I wonder if the streaking is because its got Aqua Wax in it. That being said, I've never had an issue with streaking with AW though, so maybe when it mixes with the rinseless from the factory it does something, no biggie, I'm a huge fan of their stuff and even ordered a 16 oz bottle of the DG rinseless wash for my buddy for his birthday coming up in a couple weeks, along with some other items from the AG store.

The straight Aqua Wax works fine with no streaking. The streaks only appear with the 3oz to 16oz QD and nothing I have gets rid of it except Z6. I tried FK, Aqua Wax then Z6.
Your right Richard your chemistry class is paying off.

Yeah, the AW works great, no problems with it so far, infact, I'll be getting another bottle next week as I'm almost out and don't really need to put in a large order for myself so I'll just head down to CarQuest and get another bottle of liquid gold:props:

So it looks like when making a gallon of QD using the DG rinseless, you'd need 16 oz of the product and the rest water if my math is right, right? It will be some time before I need to buy a rinseless wash but I surely wanna get the DG to try it out as I've already bought ONR, loved it, then DP and love it as well, tried a sample of BF and had no issues with it, so everything I've tried I've liked. You guys that use the DG version, does it seem to "stick" to the paint really well?

Math looks right to me. I usually only mix 16 to 26oz at a time as it would take me forever to use a gallon. As for the "sticking" the 932 has Aqua Wax in it so yes it does stick to the paint as it gets slick as your drying. Last time I used it on the wife's Toyota I was kind of slow with the drying and noticed spots on the roof and the first thought was clear coat failure. I grabbed a dry cloth and it turned out to be the Aqua Wax since it came off and became very slick. I have 1 1/2 gallons of ONR on the shelf collecting dust because I really like the 932. Now if I can dilute the QD down and still get the slick/silky feel I really like I will be happy. Guess I will have to dump my bottle of ONR QD and mix the new 932 recipe, you just seem to never have enough spray bottles.

Regarding DG 932 (new formulation with Aquawax) and streaking. It is common for 932 to streak after the first wipe down. You need to follow up with a completely dry mf towel and go over the vehicle. It will then look as if you applied a coat of Aquawax. It's a little extra work but it's worth it. This was noted in the reviews when it first was released.

DavidC, your not really going to dump the ONR, are you? Well, it seems the dilution rate needs to be less when making up DG rinseless as a QD, maybe they should change the dilution rate to make things easier because when mixing ONR and DP as a rinseless QD, I've had NO problems with it, I even mix in some Klasse sealant glaze into it, thus making a "super QD" and it works out great!

This has been a great thread guys, thanks and keep the input coming!

I think I need to mix in some of the 105 or 101 into my layers due to the fact that its got some cleaners in it, or should I get the 501 in the mix instead?

Don't worry about the cleaners. If you're layering, use 601, either separately or mixed with it at 4:1.

So every other layer, use the 601? When you say mixed, what am I mixing it with? Sorry, I'm a bit confused with mixing products like this.

These products (601 and 501 or 105) were originally designed to be used by themselves, one step at a time. In conversation with DG, it was discovered that they can be mixed to save a step and a lot of time. I introduced that idea to the AG community 2 years ago in this thread:

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/products-guides/26536-combining-duragloss-601-105-501-a.html

I have used them that way ever since; I no longer use them individually. It has helped a lot of people.
