Damn it Anthony! Now I'm gonna have to buy one, ha. :xyxthumbs:

Has anyone tried using the vx5000 or the Dupray Hill Injection steamer to do the exterior of a car? Some of the websites have videos doing it, using the machines that have hot water injection along with the steam. I'll be detailing in an area where a lot of runoff isn't good, so I started checking out these machine.

I have to chime in here.....

First off I mainly detail daily drivers here in chicago (nasty winters). I havent gotten into collector cars or anything. most of my customers use my service 3x a year just to keep their DDs clean and protected. I have formed a decent business with this and have yet to do any advertising or have any sort of website... All work of mouth and recommendations. So mostly I detail cars with dirty interiors with spills and stained carpets. Honestly what my customers mainly want is a wash, wax, and complete interior.....that is a "detail" for them and thats mainly what the express detail centers sell as a "detail".

If I could do it all over again heres what I would do.....

Purchase a good quality extractor (I have a mytee HP60) this is the workhorse of my interior details. IMO there is nothing like flushing out filthy carpets to get them clean. I have tried to steam nasty carpets but I wasted more time, and more energy than its worth. Plus you use a TON of towels and it takes me alot of time. Imagine a minivan after its been hauling around their sons little league baseball team after practice. After i extract the waste water is black! People also like the "shampoo" aspect, just like they get their carpets clean in their house...they know that their carpets will be damp for a few hours and they accept this. Again I mostly clean daily drivers.

Now on the flipside i do use my steamer on MY cars because my carpets are clean(i take very good care of them)

I have a steamer as well but unless the console or leather seats are totally trashed I really dont use it that often. I wind up using more time fooling around with steam than a small mist of APC, a soft brush, and a clean towel. Remember I do this to make money, and time is of the essence. So if I could do it over again I honestly would buy a shark steamer and would have saved myself some money. Its actually a decent steamer and it is $100. Its small and works pretty well for what I need it for and if it breaks after a few years I would just buy another one, but it works just as good for blasting crap out of cup holders, vents, consoles etc...

I know some people will disagree with my opinion on steamers and thats fine I just wanted to let you know what works for me and my business. Good luck!

man its a hard decision. I have been trying to decide my self which to buy and this thread has still not be conclusive:confused:

firstly, sorry to bring up an older thread :/ but lol agreed! where can I get the vx-5000, & what company manufactures it? What's the cost? I wish I could find somewhere where I could get a used steamer/extractor. autogeek should start an ebay type store where ppl sell back their used products haha!
