Flex 3401 or rupes bigfoot.

I do have the 5" backing plate for the Rupes LHR21 and I have the LHR15 too. There still some things that the Rupes can not do that the my Flex PE14-2 can do. The rotary is still lives.
I still have my PE14 as well and don't plan on getting rid of it so I'm going to agree with you on this.

It's really not.
Agree, once I tried it, it surpassed my expectations (speaking of the lhr15).

I also agree, simply awesome.

I'm torn i don't know if i should sell my flex 3401 to get the rupes or keep my flex. I just got the 4" backing plate and it really seems to work good. THe only thing i don't like about the flex is it is sometimes fights you. I'm not sure about the rupes also because its got a huge throw how it would be on smaller and curved panels. I only have one polisher and don't want to have a smaller one just to get spots the bigfoot 21 can't get into.

It's like polishing with a freight train! The brute force of the forced rotation makes it very undesirable to use, at least for me.

I have NEVER seen so many people complain about the Flex forced rotation issue, until NOW that the rupes is here at AG.

I bought a Flex last year, to replace my PC7424... as most knows that the PC is not that strong, but the second i tried using the Flex, i regretted getting it, it was heavy and hard to control, i was sweating just from trying to control it. I sold it as soon as i can, and lost like $100

IMO until the rupes came around everyone praised the flex. The flex could do no wrong. Now it seems as the flex is the red headed stepchild of detailing. I agree that I have never read so many complaints about the flex.

+1 It's amazing how fast opinions change in favor of the latest greatest flavor of the month. The flex was the gold standard just a few months ago. I'm sure the Rupes are nice and have some good qualities but the desired outcome is the same for both machines *a swirl free finish* and last time I check, my Flex was still more than capable of doing just that.

Get the 15 instead of the 21.:xyxthumbs:

The 15 is perfect for weekend detailer...
I purchased my 15 from KB...
and now that AG started to carry the Rupes kit, i want to get the 21 kit and just sell the 21... since i wanted the bag and polishes lol....

The Flex has been king of the DA's for years. Finally might get de-throned. I for one favor "New and improved".

You mean sell the 15?

Pick up the 21mm with the 5" backing plate. Still have the large throw, for better correction, but using a 1" smaller pad will make it more versatile.

I still think that there is a place for the flex 3401. When you need a tool that is more aggressive than a da and less than a rotary this is where the 3401 still fills in that area. I still use my 3401 but I still go to my Pe14-2 most the time even over the Rupes.

hmmm..... i thought about getting the 21 in the first place before i bought the 15, but i dont know if putting a 5" backing plate on the 21 will make it not as smooth like it should.
So i plan on selling the 21 and keep the 15...

This debate still rages with me. Should I? Should I not? Should I? Should I not?

Really all of the complaints on here come down to the owners and how they differ in personal taste. Comparing a Rupes and a Flex is like comparing a BMW and a Mercedes. One is not better than the other, its all who is controlling it and how they like it.

I am sticking with my Flex for two reasons.

-One I do not have a hard time controlling it, right pads, priming, and polish it is super easy IMO.

-Two, you can pick up a bead on the fly...

I got the Rupes 15 but also have a Flex. I bought since my DA was getting old (already replaced brushes, housing cracked) and the vibrations always annoyed me.

I believe one aspect of using the Flex is having a good body and hand position especially on vertical surfaces. Some loved the PC/GG but I always found them vibrated too much to suit me.

It is good to have more options.

Both the flex and the rupes have their place in detaling. The both complement each other.

:iagree:with both having their place in detailing, but complementing each other? I would say a rotary and a DA complement each other. Would I buy a Flex DA if I had the Rupes?

Well I have the xc3401, pe14-2, rupes lhr 21 & 15, 2 griots 6" da's , makita BO6040 and the 3" griots.
