Ok I got a phone call to detail a bread truck. The problem is the sides, back, and hood are stainless steel. He wants to have a fully polished look. What would I use?

I got that but would I use a wool pad or would a foam pad work?

Probably start off with a wool pad and aluminum compound. Then foam pad with aluminum polish.

I know Wolfgang and Blackfire have both these products.

Thank you! Yea I just found the blackfire products I'm going to need

You're welcome! If you can, try to finish off with a DA polisher to be sure no holograms are left behind.

I would start with a wool pad on a rotary and some metal compound...cause there's some heavy oxidation there. Then try foam on a rotary and some metal polish. Finish with the DA if you want to...it will give you the best results.

Make sure you charge quite a bit for this job too. Cause if you've never done this before...you're in for one heck of a headache. :pc7424:

what metal compound and polish would you guys recommend?

I can't wait to see how this comes out....please post pictures when your done :dblthumb2:

I've done that exact truck before 1978 Chevy right, and in that condition ... RUN AWAY NOW is all I have to say!!!!
Good thing I charged ridiculously insane hourly rate because it took us 3 days to complete. I will never do it one again but it came out bad ace!
We used 600-800-1000-1500-2000 wet sand to knock down all the oxidation and then compounded with Wolfgangs wool pads and then Wolfgang finishing polish then Wolfgang sealant. Here's is the kicker... This will look beautiful when done but when you come back a few weeks later you will be disappointed ... Aluminum oxidizes fast and as this was a taco truck in Texas heat it loses it's shimmer quickly.
I'll see if I can upload some pics in a bit

After getting it to shine, look into "sharkskin" coatings. Works great on airstream trailers to keep their shine.

I doubt that any otc metal polish will give you the "FULLY POLISHED" look. I suggest looking into caswellplating.com and looking into their stainless steel polishing kit. Has all the products needed to produce and preserve the look that I feel the customer seeks. Happy trails...

Yea I think I'm going to walk away from it. I would love to do it but I am worried it will oxidize real quick.

My guess it is aluminum not stainless. If it were stainless that thing would weight in the tons plus stainless does not oxidize anywhere near the rate of aluminum.
I would acid wash then proceed with an aluminum polish (not allowed to say as AG does not sell it) on a yellow cutting foam pad. Rotary will be much quicker than DA.

An upsell could be to apply Cquartz or Opti-Coat.

Well the project got done. My buddy still has alot more of the pics. I'm not going to lie it was a PIA but it taught me tricks and I'm happy its done.
