Griot's Garage G15/G21 Long-Throw Orbital Polisher *Ground-Up Redesign*

PapaSmurf 918 on youtube gave a nice review on his new G21, he also talked about the heat issue on polisher.
A little long but good info for weekend detailer :)

Well, got some more seat time with the new G21. I ended up sending it back to Griots. It’s powerful, but the more I used it, it’s just wasn’t as smooth as I expected. Polisher also got very warm. A step down from the BOSS G21.

Griot never did match their pad weights to what the machine wants..
If it's similar to the old G21...it wants a lighter pad with the 6in plate....heavier pad with the 5in plate

From the pic I think I'm gonna be disappointed with the new tail grip

I think Griots has run into a huge logistics problem somewhere. Probably pandemic related. I ordered a couple Griots MF pads from AG's sister site, Autopia, and they have been on back order since June 9.

Had a similar experience. Ordered 1 gallon of griots iron remover on May 10th that finally arrived this week. I had actually forgot I ordered it and ended up getting a gallon of a different iron remover since I ran out while waiting lol.

With that said I took part of their buy back program in May and received a G9 within a few days of calling. I still like them.

I received an email from Griots today. Here’s what it said... Backing plate issues/performance

“Thank you for placing an order for the Long-Throw Orbital. We have missed the mark as we have not yet been able to ship the machine to you and wanted to provide an update. Thank you for your patience.

We have been working with our vendors to bring this machine to you as quickly as possible with the performance and quality we believe only we can provide. We have hit a few challenges in our production efforts, specifically with the backing plate. This is a key innovation that we wanted to blow your socks off with and when we tested it, it didn’t meet our standards. If you’ve been our customer for any amount of time, you know by now when we set out to develop something, we do it for ourselves first. If it isn’t good enough for us, it’s certainly not good enough for you!

We have made some great strides and are getting close to completing this tool so you can soon start to experience this tool! As a thank you for your patience, we will be sure to include a couple of extra surprises for you when we are ready to ship this item.

Currently, we anticipate receiving the machine by the end of September. If this date changes by more than 2 weeks, we will reach back out to you with another update.”

Interesting, so it’s not all COVID-19’s fault like most of us thought.

And that means the 15 and 21 have more differences than I thought, maybe they’ll have a revised backing plate for the 21 as well?

I wonder if this design failure has anything to do with the rough ride?

If they tested it and were not satisfied, why did they release it at all?
