Guys, any of you have extremely sensitive skin when shaving?

Just picked up my 100 pack of Wilkinson Swords, wonderful compared to the merkurs I had been using.
 
Can anyone give me a quick to buy list to get into DE or safety style shaving? I would need a brush, soap, razor etc. I don't want to dump tons of money neither. Thanks

I just finished reading this thread from first post to last. I found it interesting and surprising on a forum like this but very helpful. I get ingrown hairs and have researched this in the past (about three years ago when I got a new job that I'd have to shave everyday) but I learned more from the summary here than before.

Anybody ever got a professional straight razor spa treatment shave before like they do at The Art Of Shaving? Might be a good way to enter the DE world by letting you ingrown beard grow out a bit and then getting a pro to shave it correctly before you start. I saw this video online. Maybe I shouldn't post it as some of you might want to become pro shavers ;).

Btw, one extra tip: a hot damp towel on the face before you add anything like preshave oil or shaving cream really helps soften the stubble up. Better then just standing in the shower.

Never heard of cold water shaving, hot water/hot towel opens your pores and relaxes hair.
 
Been shaving with a DE razor forever. Here is how I prep and shave with the DE razor.
1. Shower first helps soften up the beard.
2. Use exfoliating face pad to clean your face and open the pours of your skin
3. After that I use the art of shaving pre shave oil it lifts up the hair to achieve a closer shave
3. Make sure to have a great shaving brush and build up a nice lather and lather your face.
4. Use short strokes going with grain
5. Lather again
6. Now with short strokes go against the grain
7. Lather again but this time after lathering grab your brush and squeeze the remaining lather out of the brush. (Grab bristles with your hand from bottom to top squeeze out the lather this is the good stuff.)
8. Now go from your ear to your lips to get the remaining hairs. ( Make the razor head is always going north to south never east to west.)
9. Rice face apply after shave
10. Apply a nice post shave lotion and your done

Blades. Gillette 7 o'clock super sharp blades. ( Make sure the blades are made in Russia and not India. I feel the Indian made ones are a lot more dull.)

How do the 7 O'Clock blades compare to Derby's (if you have used the Derby's)
 
Best thing I ever did was switch to wet shaving with a doible edge razor. So much gentler and smoother with no irritation. Also cheap! I probably spebd around 8-10 a year.

I can't stand Derby blades and for me the 7 O'Clocks were not better.

They all felt like they were tugging more than slicing. My favorite blade is a Feather blade; very sharp, slices nicely and does not tug. I get about a week and half out of each Feather blade shaving every day.

I also use a Merkur Futur or a Gillette FatBoy.
 
I have had problems with ingrown hair and Neutragena shave cream has worked very well for me.

I guess it depends on each persons growth as I've found the Derby's to be excellent. Tried the Feathers and couldn't get through one shave without cuts and nicks.

Same experience here--I've had great results using the Neutragena Shave Creme -- very slick.
 
Have any of you ever tried to shave dry? Meaning nothing, not even regular water?

So just skin and blade?
 
In my opinion I think the 7 o'clock blades are much better. I have used and array of blades and the super sharps just fit the bill perfectly. They are sharp but not too sharp so they are forgiving, but they get you a very smooth comfortable shave. If you want I can send you pack so you can try them out.
