yrs ago i detailed a car for a guy.he left a 100 dollar bill,under 1 of the floor mats,i guess to see if i vacuumed there.he came to pick up the vehicle,looked it over,and then asked for the bill,back. well i said that any money found in vehicles was mine. he wasnt sure about that. so after some talking,we split it.not bad,plus i got the cash for the detail. never found any more money in his vehicles. just some thing to think about.it pays to ck the sun visors also,foun out the same way.
 
:confused:It's his car, why would it be yours? I worked at a carwash in highschool and college. I found money all the time. I either left it or gave it to the person without even thinking it was mine.
 
huh?

does that mean all the change ppl keep in the car for parking would be yours too???

p.s. that guy was a dummy. His little experiment would have worked just as well with a $5 bill

I think I understand why you haven't heard back from this fella

That 100 he left was "DUMMY" money. He was trying to test you to see if you were a trustworthy person. You obviously are not IMO. Just think if you would've returned the money (before he asked for it) there's no telling how many thousands of dollars in business you lost practicing this method

The only money I keep out of a customers car, is the change I have to dig out of the seat tracks. I feel I've earned this as its always a PITA to remove
 
Any and all money that I find while cleaning a customer's car gets placed in a small ziplock bag and placed in an obvious place in the vehicle... Usually it surprises them and they tip me but some look at it and thank me then go on their way... I would never keep a customer's money that was found in their car....

I used to put a few dollars in my console or under the seat before I took my car for service of any kind and if they were gone when I got the car back and not in a visible place or handed to me that place was then black listed by me and honestly I told every friend and family member not to go there... That is theft...

I don't know if you were just kidding with the customer or not and I am not trying to attack you or your character by any means... I am just saying what I do and what is professional...

Now have I been tempted? Yes I have but have I ever taken anything from a customer's car (besides a few cents that my vac may suck up)? No...

I guess the guys lucky he didn't leave a set of golf clubs in the trunk, too.

ANYTHING found in a customers vehicle is not yours. You are cleaning their property...and they are paying you to do so. They are paying you for the SERVICE. That doesn't make anything you find during the service automatically yours. Any real detailer, business man, or just all around good hearted person knows this.

I wouldn't have paid you for the detailing at all. Don't know why on earth he split it with you. That's mind blowing.

I'm pretty sure his policy of any $$$ in a car is his to keep is just wrong but he did say he never found $$$ in this guys cars again. Which for some strange reason means the client came back for more.
 
I pulled 28 cents out of the shop vac. Problem is I don't know who to return it to now. Any property left in car is bagged and left in obvious place or pointed out. I jokingly tell people anything I couldn't sell on eBay is in your trunk. But, I only do family and friends so I guess it doesn't count.
 
This thread is funny. Almost seems fake.

I found a bottle of Crown once :cheers:, but after cleaning the seat pocket I placed the bottle back. The very next seat had a toothbrush and toothpaste in the pocket, I put those back as well. I never mention anything to my customers that I may find, I respect privacy and chances are they forgot.

How the hell can you say that any money in the car is yours, so if the customer left his
wallet in the car would you go through that aswell...
Basically its called stealing and i for one would have reported you..

If i ever find money in a car im valeting i put it in a money bag and leave in full view for the customer to see even if i suck up any coins i empty my hoover..

you should be ashamed to have admitted doing that and even more to think its ok..

can`t believe i`m boiling over this post.

Since were all poking ... I wish I would have read this last year so I could have kept the joint, baggie of Coke and cr@ck pipe I've managed to come across under seats and mats ... SMH @OP

I agree,I've found a few valueable items in cars I've done before as well while working at a full-serv car-wash,earrings, a diamond ring,cell phones under seats,pair of panties(not valueable but sure as heck didn't touch them or keep 'em).The customers were always very grateful that this item was found and usually extra generous for my honesty.I once found a wad of 20's the size of a fist under a driver's seat and immediately found the customer and handed it to him personally.He didn't even realize it had slipped out of his pocket and gave me one as a "thank you"Other than trash and dirt I believe that anything found in the car belongs to the owner.

You sir, are a dishonest person. Anything in his car is his, period. I wouldn't let you detail my kids bike.
 
I think the OP is full of BS. If not, then everyone responding is right on target. Everything in a customers car belongs to them. You are ONLY there to improve the appearance. Anything else is stealing.
