At 11:56 tonight I had to put my dog down. His stomach flipped. I've had him since I was 10 years old. He was 12 years old. It was just so sudden when it happened, he was outside helping me wash my car this morning an even ran into the kitchen to get his treat. After dinner I noticed his stomach was extremely swollen an he wasn't responding like usual. We took him to the vet an they tried to un-flip his stomach but it didn't work. They could have performed surgery but I just couldn't bear to put him through it. He had surgery last Dec. for cancer. He was a fighter and I will miss him tremendously. All dogs go to heaven right? I don't think I will be getting another dog for a little while. He was like a brother to me even though he was a dog. This was the hardest thing I have ever had to do.

Sorry for your loss.

A dog pretty much becomes a member of your family & I know from experience the decision you had to make today is an extremely hard one.
Had a dog for 14 years (from when I was 4 or 5 years old) & had to do the same thing. Not nice...

Sorry to hear this man, really tough losing a one of a kind friend & companion like that after so many years. I wish you the best bud, and I'm sorry for your loss. RIP

Man that sucks! On a strange note i lost a Bassett hound named fred when i WAS 10. I know you didn't lose him at 10 but..switch things around same name same dog. Again sorry man

So sorry for loss. I lost one of my dogs this past November. Only a pet owner can understand what it's like to loose a pet.

Im really sorry to hear that. I have had to put 2 of my dogs down. One died from Parvo. The next was modulated by a horrible pit-bull. Here in East Palo Alto people raise dogs to kill other people. I still remember the owner ordering his dog to moult my small Chihuahua. Eventhough I'm 21 years old and can bench 315lbs I wasnt able to force open those jaws. Once they lock, they lock and no matter how strong you are,its no use. It was like losing a family member. Doctor said she couldnt survive the surgeries, so we had to put her down.

Dont wurry, he is in Heaven now. I saw a plate with a prayer in it for Our Wonderful God. It goes like this " Have you a dog in Heaven, Lord? Is there room for just one more? Cause my little dog died today and will be waiting at your door".

Everytime I read it it brings me to tears. Just remember, the Bible says there are animals in Heaven. Therefore, is safe to assume we will meet with our pets one day.

Sorry to hear your long time companion and friend. Our pets are more then pets, they become part of your family....RIP Fred...

Sorry your little buddy is not with you anymore. Keep those memories alive! I'm sure he loved you more than any treat!

I am so very sorry about Fred.

A Pets Prayer

Treat me kindly,my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful kindness than mine.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for although I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will teach me more quickly the things you would have me to do.

Speak to me often for your voice is the worlds sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when I hear your step.

When the weather is wet and cold, please, take me inside for I am a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements, and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I shall not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.

Feed me clean food, so that I may stay well to romp and play and do your bidding to walk by your side standing ready to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And master, when I am very old, if the Greatest Master sees fit to deprive me of my health and sight, do not turn me away. Rather see that my trusting life is taken gently, and I shall leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my fate was always safe in your hands.

Sorry for your loss. Being a dog lover myself, and having lost several dogs, just know you gave him the best life he could've ever lived, and loved him with all your heart.

We're truly sorry to hear of your loss...

Very sorry for your loss. Pets add so much to our lives, its very hard when they pass. As previously said, rest assured he is now in Heaven, and you will see him again one day.

I'm so sorry to hear about Fred. I just lost "My girl Jack" on January 2nd. It was so hard to let her go. I take some comfort in knowing that I did the right thing in not holding on at the expense of her pain. Jack gave a few early warning signs that the day was not too far off, but in the end she went south overnight and there was not much suffering for her at all.

Call it coincidence or divine intervention.....Another dog (Kinzer) graced our household just a few days later. Kinzer was walking the "Green Mile" and I was asked to take him to the pound for a friend of a friend. I'm so glad I decided to keep him as he's turning into the perfect companion.

One door closes and another opens...not always what you think it'll be but somewhere there's another door opening for you. The great people of this forum really stepped up to the plate and offered support as I went through the loss of "My girl Jack".

If you need an understanding friend to talk to as you move forward, don't hesitate to call me. You'll find my number by clicking my signature line below. Hang in there bud...TD

Damn man that's real. I never had that kind of connection before with a dog, cuz I never had one in my household as a youngin. I always wanted one when though. It must be heartbreaking but we all know it is inevitable. FRED still lives on through memory and in our heads, therefore he ain't dead.

R.i.p Fred, Im sorry it happened like that brother, i could imagine it being like loosing another family member in the household.
