Matte/Satin tire dressing, recommendations?

For those of you who use Hyper Dressing or PERL, how do you apply it?

I've been using an aerosol from Meguiar's and I just spray directly it on the tire, then wipe with a microfiber or foam applicator. I like this process and it seems to work pretty good for me. Will the same process work for the two I mentioned above?

I use PERL 3:1 by spraying it on a foam applicator then wiping it on until it's even.

After watching Pan's video about tire dressings, I lost all faith in them. Unless you are gonna put on a tire coating, they go away so fast you will not see a huge difference between one from the other.

In terms of value, I think the best would be Meguiars Hyper Dressing. You can dilute it 4:1 and it will give a very mate finish. I have used Opti-Bond for about 3 years, it's ok but nothing impressive about it IMO. I think Pearl is very similar to opti-bond.

Again, I would go for the most cost effective product, and I think that is Hyper Dressing at 4:1. If you want more gloss you can dilute less (3:1, 2:1, 1:1, or even concentrated)

I use a flag tipped brush to apply Hyper Dressing. Spray into the brush, then brush onto the tire.

If you spray Hyper Dressing directly onto the tire, you’ll wind up with overspray on the wheels and possibly the paint too.

Man based on that picture of you applying it I gotta start being a little more liberal with the amount I spray into the brush lol.

I just do a few baby sprays and it never leaves as much behind as in that picture. I’m probably making it take a lot longer than it needs to

Yea I start with about 10 sprays into the brush, by then it’s almost dripping and even then I sometimes stop and spray a couple more times during the 1st tire... It’s guaranteed to be primed and then it’s easy to dress each tire [spraying 2-3 times before each tire] in about 10-12 sec.

There’s nothing worse than trying to dry brush..

Use it @1:1 and be liberal, don’t worry that gallon will still last you over 1yr. Lol.

I have switched to using Adam's Hex Grip tire dressing applicator and I am in love with it :)

It makes putting on dressing really easy and the result is just perfect every time. Saves time too.

So I wiped down my tires today and threw on some dressing, more liberal with the sprays this time.

Definitely would say that it laid down a more even coat once it dried.

I did notice something I’d never noticed on my drivers side tire, which isn’t really present on my other tires. It might be why I always think they look off to me (aside from them never “looking” clean)

Ignoring the fuzzies on my tire, if you look at it there’s like.. some type of weird texture on it. It’s on the front driver side tire, so it’s the one I see the most lol.

My rear passenger tire doesn’t have whatever it is on there. Maybe I’ll try to get it off sometime, just to satisfy my curiosity.

It’s not dry rot, is it?

Thanks, sir.

Shoot, I hope not. I think the tires have like 15k miles on them? I'll have to go get the receipt out of the glove box and check later to make sure. They're basically brand new tires (granted, I guess that doesn't mean they're unable to start rotting so soon.)

Also, how do you shove your brush down so that you can dress the part of the tire that's touching the pavement evenly? I always end up having to move my car 1-2ft or it'll bug me profusely.

For your sake I hope it’s not... If it is it’s the best looking dry rotting Michelin on earth.lol.

As far as dressing the bottom of the tire, I dunno I usually just shimmy the brush down there real quik and I mean quik because there’s sometimes a little water on the concrete and I don’t want to get my brush wet... It’s wierd I never have that spot come up dry. Maybe the excess winds up dripping down and takes care of it?

I know what you mean though, and I would notice if it happened.

Regular 303 Protectant and UTTG leave a matte finish based on my experiences.

I use to have 4 pieces of 2X10 that I would drive onto. That gave me 1.5" lift above the ground.

I’ve actually thought about getting somethin like that. It seems like it would be really convenient.

Do you drive up on them before a wash? I find sometimes when I clean tires there’s still a small dirty spot from the area that was touching the ground.

I’m also considering swapping from the tuff shine brush to one of those blue bristled stiff brushes like CG sells, the tuff shine brush just takes so long to scrub down a tire with. Probably works better on low profile tires.. I just feel like I could get the job done quicker I guess.

Set before washing tires. Bevel the ends of the 2X10's and set them an inch or two inside the tires to allow the outside wall of the tire free from the board and ground.

I just received my can of Griot's Black Satin tonight in the mail.

Looking forward to using it tomorrow morning......
