Mazda Clear Coats Too Thin???

First, great choice in vehicles!

Mazda has a history of trying to keep weight and cost down on their vehicles and one way they do that it through using "less" paint on their cars. A few pounds shaved and dollars saved here and there can really add up over the course of a complete vehicle.

Skip the dealer's detailing plan and save the money to use on your own supplies.

I cannot imagine that you will need the FG400 on brand new vehicles to get rid of dealer installed swirls. but if you do, you may be able to find a good deal on it or Wolfgang Uber Compound on Black Friday.

I am weekend detailer who enjoys keeping my cars in great shape and I completed my first coating a few weeks ago. I went for CQuartz UK based on overwhelmingly positive reviews from many experienced hobbyists, and I must say that it was very easy to use. Anyone can do it. I went this route because after I put 25 hours into correcting the finicky black paint on my newly acquired '09 Lexus RX, I wanted scratch resistance and protection against the corrosive brine that is sprayed on the roads during the Northeast Winters.

For my Mustang and my wife's Accord, I'll stick to Wolfgang DGPS 3.0 as I have to have something that I can wax on the weekends :xyxthumbs:

Visitor, I sure will :D

1FastTbird, Yes, I sure will skip the dealer's hack plan… like I said, I seen what they do to their cars. No Thanks!

I was just recently told that Cquartz UK is an Awesome product but was made in Europe where the weather is somewhat on the colder side and was therefore designed to withstand those elements.

While Optimum Gloss Coat on the other hand can ride out super dry & hot climates…..

I wonder how true this is……… ?????

I am willing to get whatever works at whatever price…..just not sure which products to buy.

Order both just so your covered but hope you won't need the FG400. Odds are though that you will need it at some point if these are DD.

Right on EVO….thanks!

One last question…. (for now) :)

I was thinking of getting the 16oz bottle of fg400 while getting the 32oz bottle of sf4000…

does that sound right if i'm basically only taking care of two, maybe three vehicles?

Wooooo Hoooooooo!!!!!!

Just got a call from Mazda saying we can come pick up our cars!

:D:D:D :):):) :D:D:D

Congrats!! And yes I would pick up the 16 and 32. 16 should be enough to do 3 cars once though, probably even twice.

I believe the CQuartz UK formula being for colder climates has to do with application temperature, not so much that it won't hold up in hot environments

It is designed to flash faster in cooler conditions, which speeds up the application process vs. CQuartz

CQuartz UK 30ml is roughly the same price as Gloss-Coat 10ml

Well, after a bunch of fangdangling, we finally drove off the lot with our NEW 2015 Mazda 3 & 6.

The ride home felt incredible compared to the Rav!
Wow, what an improvement!

So Allen, will 30ml of the Cquartz UK cover both of our vehicles?
or will I need to layer it?

I think I was told that 20ml of the Gloss-Coat would cover both cars no problem.
But yea, thats about $100… so if I can get the same results using Cquartz UK, then i'll just go that route.

Thanks again man.
Appreciate ya~

Thanks Sicoupe, we're stoked!

Now just waiting for cyber Friday to get here so I can order all my pads etc…

Anyone have any idea what I can safely use to remove the dealers stickers in the windows?

I didn't allow them to touch ANYTHING once I picked it out..lol.

They kept looking at me like I was crazy when I refused their wash & courtesy hack job detail but I assured them That I had it under control.

I'm going down to have all the windows tinted on Friday so i'd like to have them nice and clean.

I've got the Pinnacle Glass Kit here…. just wondering if I should carefully scrape off the majority of the sticker with a razor or if I could use an APC or an IPA or something of that nature.

Thanks in advance!

have fun dude. good move on keeping them away as much as possible. i still suggest that people let dealers remove the major protective coverings to allow you to inspect the paint prior to leaving just to make sure there aren't any suspicious issues off the bat (port repairs, etc.). but that's because i've been stung, so i'm extra careful.

about the decals, i assume you aren't interested in keeping them intact, like a "window sticker" in the classic sense, the one that people save. you probably mean the other random decals. generally you can heat the glass up with a hair dryer to loosen the adhesive, peel it the best you can trying to keep pieces as together as possible and whatever is left, i'd take a soaked paper towel with prep solvent and let it dwell on the residue and then wipe off. you probably don't have prep solvent so goo gone, goof off or a similar product will work too. repeat as needed until it's gone. plastic razors or a plastic puddy knife can be used but i'd stay away from metal razors because it's too easy to scratch glass nowadays, lol. i don't like goo gone type products because they leave a residue that has to be cleaned up vs. something that totally evaporates like prep solvent but hey, whatever you have that works. some people even use WD-40 to remove residue.

To remove stickers on glass, just spray with water and take the blade from a box cutter and scrape away. It will come off very easily.

To save a monroney sticker, there are two approaches. Remove the adhesive border keeping it all in tact then peel off the monroney or don't bother with the adhesive and rip off the paper backing releasing the monroney and leaving the adhesive border on the window.

When you get your windows tinted, I'm sure they will be cleaning the glass very well themselves so don't worry about it too much.

Ended up using 1z to remove the sticker glue …worked out great!

Set up an appointment on Monday to get my windows tinted.

Oh and I also went ahead and De-Badged the back emblems in the back.
Still can't decide if I want to remove the actual Mazda logo in the center.

Thoughts?

Yea, those are way nicer….something to def consider.

Thanks for the pics and ideas!

^ agreed, leave the center badge but all the others that you've already taken off looks good already. That aftermarket badge (the chrome one looks good, don't care for the black one) may even look cleaner. You can find them on ebay...
