Hi all

Finally got the right weather to use my meguiars 101 cutting compound.

Question: when using this with an orange LCC pad can you spray a little water as you go because I've noticed it gets warm and drys on you quite quick.

Cheers!

I would spray a mist or 2 of megs Quick Detailer.

I do this with all the compounds I use.

Where did you get the 101?

I bought it from autogeek as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Why do you ask?

Has anyone used water before?

Cheers

Good to know...Which AutoGeek? I can't go any lower than 105 from my AGO, though.

Alright guys....it's probably a typo and not the mythical euro Meg 101.
OP, Meg 101 is tough and expensive to get hold of here in the U.S.

.. or maybe its some new, secret megs product ..

how much was it? I have been dreaming of this product for over a year ever since i read the Euro reviews on it. I heard its can't be sold in the US, doesn't meet some environmental standards. As it stands the UK will sell me 32oz for 100bucks plus shipping.

..thx

so is that a No you cannot use any water at all with the product?

I have heard using water with the 105 helps re-activate the cutting process. By using water I mean a very little amount i.e from a quick spray

...thankyou

The more experienced guys will chime in soon, but I've read recently (somewhere on this forum) its not recommendable to 'dilute' the compound with water, as its suppose to be used with-out water. One of the reasons is decreasing the cutting ability of the product.

I also recommend you read this
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...ow-prime-foam-pad-when-using-da-polisher.html

I disagree I believe that if you use a spritz of the water it reactivates the compound increasing your cutting time and increasing the cut of the product.

Re: Megs 101 -HELP PLEASE!

Hi all,

Thx for your comments,

Ok so I gave it a go on the front bonnet/hood of the car - I used i think half a bottle of the 105.... I put on as little as possible!...

The hood I prepped by cleaning & claying then washing again.

I started off giving the Megs MF System a go the cutting pad.

After priming the pad I applied the 105 in the 3 spots evenly separated from each other. I then put the rotex on the bonnet started in the low rpm and sped up when it was spread.

Now this is the part I dont understand, the 105 dries extremely quick *note it is very hot weather today* but after about 2-3 seconds it starts to dry off. The only way I can continue is by misting a small amount of water on the surface which gives me a bit longer.

I managed to remove most of the light swirls with the 105 + MF cutting Pad. Couldn get any of the deep and medium scratches out.

I then decided to give the Foam pads a go.

Same outcome really, although you can tell the pads are not as aggressive because the 105 didnt dry in 3 seconds it lasted another 2 seconds ;)

So what am I doing wrong?

I dont know if I should give it another go, I realized im not going to get it looking anywhere near new as this is a old hood and the panel beater did a very bodged job.

Please help!

Add a couple of drops of 205. You better hurry up before you run out of clear.

I've used water only because it's close by. But, I typically use anything that will give more lubricity, like a quick detailer, or ONR. The lubrication makes things easier I feel.

M101 at almost any cost is worth it. There's a reason its called the Pimp Juice. Can't wait to get some more!

Nothing new or secret about it, it's been out for a while in Europe and Asia, only recently have we been getting our hands on it here in the US though -- all of which has had to be imported at considerable cost.

The UK? Where/who in the UK? Meguiar's doesn't sell or distribute it in Britain.

It can be sold in the US, it's even made in the US. Meguiar's just refuses to sell it. It's 100% VOC compliant.

Indeed! It's everything M105 should have been and isn't.
