While the brush and sponge do work well, the air compressor is the best method. Gets deeper into the fibers and less traumatic to the pad. When I have used the brush/sponge method, some of the fibers tend to fly off with the friction.

do you guys get the sponge wet before cleaning on the fly with it?

No, leave it dry for best results. Wash it when you're done. It's cheap, easy, fast & works great!

An air compressor works best. (No touch cleaning) I'm unable to carry a compressor around.

The foam pad brush works but I feel it's a bit coarse and may wear down the MF pad too fast.

Wash the sponge in between pad cleanings, or after the job is done?

Hi Guys

Sorry to dig this up again but I've seen the best bug sponge to use with the DA microfiber pads is the Pinnacle honeycomb type bug sponge? Does it have to be this one specifically because I have a sponge like the one pictured already. And does cleaning on the fly destroy the bug sponge quickly or will it last some time? I live in South Africa and will be importing the kit soon and want to throw in a bug sponge or two. I can save some cash if the one I have will do the job already. Will try post pics later.

Thanks!

Here's the pic of the one I just bought, was intending to use it for ONR washes because of the large open pores to trap dirt, similar to your grout sponges (as the ones in my country are nowhere near a suitable 'Grout' sponge as popularised on the forums for ONR use).

Any feedback on this will be appreciated!

Thanks,

Mike

is it real hard when its dry? or is it still soft? I personally would never wash a car with a bug sponge.

It is fairly soft when dry, was gonna test out on my test panel for marring with ONR this coming weekend, but am weary of it being suitable for washing especially on softer paints. I'm doing my utmost to track down a suitable sponge for ONR washes, but ours have no pores/pockets in them like the ones you guys get (from Greece) which makes marring a certainty :(

In terms of bug sponge similarity do you think it the same? The pinnacle one looks identical in comparison IMO. Is the Pinnacle bug sponge soft when dry?

the pores might look the same but if its soft I dont think its gonna clean..the bug sponge when dry is really stiff and hard..so it is able to clean the pad out without being ripped up.

But it doesn't mar or scratch the paint. I wouldn't recommend using it on something super soft like Honda black or BMW black, but IME it didn't not damage the paint at all. Used it to clean off crap from my front bumper with ease.

Your other question, it is stiff when dry. But you can compress it with your bare hands so its not that stiff but it does hold its own forum. When wet its soft and still holds its structure well.

I've asked many times on other forums when people talk about cleaning it with honeycomb type bug sponge and everyone says its very effective and does the job well and not rip the MF pads apart.

I'd say it's not hard nor soft. Kind of medium firmness, will check after work if it's hardened after drying. If you compress mine it retains shape and bounces back to full thickness when released. Think I might just do myself a favour and order the Pinnacle one anyway to compare and then I'll know for future. Guess trying to save money isn't worth it when it's your paint or pads! :xyxthumbs:

I wonder though who ever got the idea to test it on their mf pads first? Must have been a scary experience!
