Meg's DA Microfiber Correction System

Man..so much info on this system, but no clearcut answers.

I just purchased a new Z06..black. Thank gawd, its only been in the showroom, and none of the dealership clowns put a buffer on it. It does, however have the usual micro-marring from washing, dusting, etc.

I am very skilled with a rotary- but see no reason to induce buffer trails or the finesse and work you need to put in to use a rotary on black.

I have a early model PC D/A but I'm thinking about either trying the new Meg's MF system with a new Flex machine, or buying a new flex and using my tried and familiar foam pad systems.

Any recommendations??

I'm not sure you need that much cut as carsmetic just pointed out on a new car if it's in good shape unless it has some deeper defects. a PC or Flex with something like M205 or Menz. 106fa and a polishing pad might be perfect. IMO a black Z06 would deserve to be jewled with Menz. PO85rd or 3M Ultra-fine with a polishing pad... I'd also clay it before polishing... Good luck!

too many variables with the different types of paint for clear cut answers. If your car is in that good of condition you dont need the mf system. the flex does not do well with mf discs.
5" pads on your old pc will be very capable of taking care of your vehicle if it is just micro marring you need to deal with

Thanks for the reply.

To be honest, I'm not all that impressed with my Porter Cable DA. To be fair, I only have 1 white pad, and 1 black pad to use with it. My cars don't have major defects, so I'm not in a position to say much- but I will say that I can jewel the paint with a rotary without issue. Its just WORK. And, I'm getting lazy in my old age. :buffing:

I am a 3M guy, and have the Ultra-Fine and a few other #M products hanging around.

The FLEX interested me because many pro's comment its a natural progression from a rotary, and like I said..I am very very good with a rotary. No, I'm not a "detailer", but I do custom painting, so I have learned to cut and buff my things over the last 8-10 years.

Anyways..what kinds of pads should I get with a FLEX? Red? Blue? Black? Green??

Definiately think the Menzerna is something I want to try since I hear its the bomb on black.

I can't disagree with you about jewling with a rotary, I love to slap on a finishing pad and use either of the mentioned products with a finishing pad or a marroon LC Hydro pad. I also use the rotary at 600-1000 Rpm's to jewl with, esp. with black.

Back to the Meguars DA MF system, it can remove defects as good as the rotary with a compound, but is much safter and doesn't require the extra taping, etc, that a rotary does IMO. Only thing, I haven't had too much sucess getting it to finish down on soft paint, like black without going to the jewling step. On other colors, it's the BOMB!

I have not tried the Flex 3401 with the DA-MF system, but going on what others have tried, it works better with the DA. The 7424XP has more power than the origional and the Griots DA has even more power, but IMO isn't as smooth as the 7424XP. You can get great results with either machine.

Anyways, back to your question, I also own a Flex but it hasn't gotten much use of late... The pads I would recommend would be the LC Hydro pads, they are my favorite foam pads. You just have to get a few of each since one they get saturated, time to change pads or you run the risk of them coming apart. The Cyan pad is great for removing defects and cutting, the Tangerine pad is a great all around polishing pad, removes defects and leaves the surface really nice. The Maroon pad is a great jewling pad or even a good pad for applying waxes/sealants. Unless you get the smaller backing plate you should use the 6.5" pads, which I'm not a fan of, I like the smaller surface area and you are cutting it close with the 5.5" pads with the stock backing plate and run the risk of it rubbing on someting. One thing of note with the 3401, you must keep it flat or it will want to walk on you. Very good machine but takes a little getting used too...

Hope that helped...

Tom-

Appreciate the detailed response. I am split on the Flex and Griot- simply because 300 bucks is a wad of cash to throw at a machine that limits you to DA'ing with the common foam pads.

I was leaning toward the Griot since it would allow me to use the MF system (if I wanted), but also give me a little more oomph on removing marring with a foam pad.

The PC I have is just so slow..I rarely use it for anything.

One thing to note- I hear the new Vettes clear is rock hard- similar to Mercedes and the like. So, until I get started, I'm not real sure what I'll end up with. Im the MAN

I have a quick question about the DA MF system but don't really feel like opening a new thread for it.

I'm thinking of getting my first polisher, a DA together with the Megs MF system. For applying wax, is the MF finishing pads suitable or do I need to get another set of foam pads for waxing purposes?

depends which wax. the da wax has cut, so get some red/gold lake country for applying pure wax without cut

i believe you should get either a blue or red lake country pad for waxes and sealents. thats what i do.

The Meg's system is a correction system, and like with any correcting done on a car, you should always top it off with an LSP. Investing in a good wax will bring everything full circle and make the hard work pay off. I recently tested out some Collinite 915 and love it. It gives a deep beautiful gloss to the paint. As far as durability, these guys on here say its great. If I were you, I would invest in some red Lake Country CCS pads. I absolutely love those pads. Alot of the suggestions are from our experience. Try them out for yourself to see how you like it. You'll often hear the words "it depends" cause it truely depends on what you like.

I use the LC HydroTech exclusively with my 3401. They work great. Most times I just need the tangerine. Crimson applies LSP great. Now you can get the HT in Comperessor too.
