Most regretted detailing product purchase

Not sure your issues / products used but here is my process that has worked multiple times with no issues.

  1. Dismount wheel so you can lay it flat.
  2. Wash tire and mist it to keep it wet.
  3. Apply ARO and scrub the crap out of the tire. Rinsing brush regularly.
  4. Rinse tire and dry with a cotton towel.
  5. Apply Meg's Degreaser and scrub the crap out of the tire. Rinsing brush regularly.
  6. Rinse tire and dry with a cotton towel.
  7. Apply Meg's APC and scrub the crap out of the tire. Rinsing brush regularly.
  8. Rinse tire and dry with a cotton towel.
  9. Apply Tuff Shine Cleaner scrub the crap out of the tire. Rinsing brush regularly. Usually it only takes 1 application of TSC this way.
  10. Rinse tire and dry with a cotton towel.
  11. Use Masterblaster to speed full dry
  12. Apply Tuff Shine.



I have found that most of these dressings are actually very hard to remove from tires even though they look like they are gone. My process is lengthy but well worth is as each cleaner seems to attack a different aspect of the problem and has not failed me yet.

I'll agree with that. I got it for free with a promotion at Advance and it was still a bad buy.
I relegated it for door jamb and trunk jamb use and it wasn't even any good there.

Hey thanks for the suggestion Troy but....if that's what's required, I'm going to pass. I typically clean the tires with Megs D101 thoroughly one time, dry with mf and apply PERL or Ultima Tire & Trim and it's all good for about 1-2 wks, more in the winter time here in south Florida. Not much effort and the results are beautiful IMO. Even if the Tuff Shine "coating" worked and lasted 6 mos, your procedure involves more total time that my weekly routine. Really appreciate you outlining what works for you.

I totally understand.

I think I average about 2hrs total in the entire process. For me the "win" is that after I am done I only need to wash the tires with my regular car wash mix and not a extra APC product. And when I decided to re-apply I simply wash; dry; and re-apply with no extra work needed. And I don't ever have a problem with tire sling.

If you can't tell "tires" are not my favorite detailing step....:xyxthumbs:
 
I'm sure someone has mentioned it but just in case......did anyone else make the same mistake as me in purchasing Turtle Wax ICE Liquid Clay bar? Purchased it about 6 years ago.....still keep it as a reminder to do some research before making purchases lol!

What were you expectations for it? I certainly did not replace a clay bar, that's for sure. But is was a really good prep wash. It was a TFR with scrubbing power due to the kaolin clay powder in it. When it was around, I used to scrub the front bumpers and lower side panels with it. I prepped an aged Ford Contour with it that had serious embedded mold/mildew stains on the trunk/roof/hood and it took the stains right off. I also used to use it to prepped heavily oxidized panels. It definitely removes some of the oxidation. The last time I used it, all gone now, I prepped a heavily oxidized boat with it. You could see the oxidation in the rinse water all over the drive way. They probably should have not used the words "clay bar" in the product name. It was misleading. The kit had regular clay bar (terrible) included so they should have just referred to it as the prep wash.

I didn't have high expectations.....just wanted to try it out but funny you mention the prep wash part though. I actually had a few cars come in with mold build up on certain parts of the paint and trim and this stuff worked wonders and also helped to clean the surface like mentioned......but that's just about it. No contaminant removal whoatsoever.
 
Wheel wax and Griots Wheel Claybar. didn't really notice the difference , but then again I have oem wheels...

I don't see what people are talking about, this wax gives a warmer lookk to lighter paints...polishing is what makes the paint look good or bad, the wax just protects.
 
DP Interior Cleaner "new formula" The old formula smelled like bananas. The "new formula" smells like moldy towels.

I've always used normal clay bar on wheels after a thorough cleaning. Honestly, the claying and wheel wax just makes them smooth and protected and easier to clean. You should've noticed that at least.

I actually used it last week on my neighbor's Escape. Just to get the paint clean. Still needed the clay bar, and after inspection needs serious polishing.... At least my landscaping will be all set, as he agreed to the exchange.

The Ice Liquid Clay does do a really good job stripping previous products/surface stains, etc from the paint though. Surf City had a polish they call "Beyond Clay" which is an excellent polish, but doesn't measure up to an actual clay bar at removing above surface contamination. Interesting semantical choices there

i like using my foam gun.

gives a nice coat of foam on cars and perfect for lubricating the car when i'm using the wash mitt.

My biggest regret is a GG 3". Bought it, used it for 2 minutes, sent it to Griot's.
 
Recently

CO FP Final Polish. Both bottles turned from cream to water.

GG One Step Sealant. Again, turned to water.
 
Lol, I just the lug cleaner to try on a Mercedes and audis!
