My new Cyan pads are done...

HateSwirls, are they "chunking"? I recently bought some and after about 10 minutes of use they fell apart. Using a 3401 as we'll...

props to david at lake country for listening and taking care of any issues... :)

I am a little perplexed...I use the hydrotechs (3" and 4") and have not experienced any negative issues. In fact, I recently purchased more for my Flex PE-8 Kompakt 3" rotary. I use the 3" and 4" hydro-tech pads with them as well as my PC7424 XP.

I am just wondering is it the technique? I know I use about 5LBS to no more than 12LBS MAX of pressure.

I tested my pressure with a weight scale when I was learning and have a pretty good feel for when I am applying "too much" pressure.

I am just wondering if that is the case. The pads are well made and for you to lose the back part I am just wondering if there might be too much pressure.

I am at a loss and sorry to hear that. I use only LC Pads (Hydro-techs, Hybrids and CCS) as I have had bad experiences with the Hex Logics and GG Pads.

Once and if you do figure it out please let us know so we can learn from this. That way whatever brand pads we use we can be aware of it.

I use little pressure when using the Flex so I dint find I'm over working the pad.
The foam itself is great, only the Velcro is the problem.
I have some Lake Country Flat pads that have many hours on them but are still in good shape.
Really had high hopes with the Cyan pads.
When I removed the pad from the backing plate the Velcro remained on the BP , one pad ripped in half while I was removing it and I was very carefully in removing it.

Yesterday I took pictures for David, I emailed him as I asked, hopefully this will help them down the road.
When I give a review I give it as I see it, good or bad, this helps others.
The ones I ordered were shipped from AG but ordered from Amazon, hopefully this will help them also.
Hopefully AG and LC will work on this together to figure out the cause of them coming apart.

That's weird. They LC Hydo-Techs have been my go to pad for years and have performed flawlessly. Hopefully it was just a bad sample.

The good news is that it isn't the foam itself, which seems to have plagued earlier versions of this pad.

Please contact us if you are having an issue with any pads. [email protected]

Thanks for all the support guys! Like I said earlier, we did do an upgrade on the adhesive in late last year.

We have had very few issues with these pads since our upgrade.

Chunking of these pads usually happens because of a couple reasons-

Too much downward force, Not enough polish, or under lubricated - these can both cause increased friction and cause tearing of the closed cell foam.

This doesn't rule out the fact that it could be a defective pad, but just few things I have observed with the use and failure of these pads.

Excellent insight, David. Thanks!

I hope mine last, I just used my new cyan 5" pad on my GG6 the other day for the first time on a few panels and absolutely loved it! mine is the low profile version with the white velcro and I hope it stays together because I can't see myself buying any other pads because I love the results I'm getting with the hydrotech pads!

Wow that thing has seen better days. The only issue I had with these pads is the 3" tangerine separating from the hook and loop.

Kudos to Lake Country for coming in and supporting you.

I have other Lake Country pads that have held up VERY well, not sure what's up with these.
Someone on the AG forum advised me not to over work them because they would fail so I took it easy on them, meaning less pressure , slower speeds with less passes.
Still turned out this way.

Will I continue buying Lake Country pads in the future?
Sure will!

Mine didn't get that bad, but I had the same pads and I will admit that they wore out way faster than any other LC pad I'd had before, not sure why.

I love using the Megs MF cutting discs for corrections (saw you mention them in another post) and i just got some of their new foam discs to try out. (The only thing I dong like about the MF is cleaning them as I'm mobile abd don't have compressed air).

I wonder why these hybrid pads are so much less durable than other LC pads?

Dunno man, just doesn't seem to be the same great pads as LC's others.

There was some heavy force used on the first pad used, but nothing excessive or lack of polish. I opened a brand new cyan pad and it started to split under medium to light pressure. I'll get an email sent to you later this week with pictures. Thanks David!

And to those reading this and not adding the hydro's to their AG cart...your missing out. I love these pads, very effective and a simple system that is versatile. I'll continue to buy LC products regardless of the current issue.

I wonder why these hybrid (correction, these are Hydro tech pads) pads are so much less durable than other LC pads?

There have been a few cases where the Hydro tech pads have had numerous issues with delamination and the Cyan cutting pads coming about. My guess is that the wafer thin closed cell pads don't agree with the forced rotation nature of the 3401.

The thicker Hybrid construction pads are favorable on the 3401 as there is more cushion to help absorb the aggressive rotation of the Flex 3401.
