Nasty Dodge Durango Interior (lots of pics)

Amazing job!

I need to get that brush attachment!

Learned some new tricks & products. This is why I love AGO

Spring's coming up here so I've been putting together my shopping list. After seeing these pics I have to add a carpet brush for my PC along with some DP Interior Cleaner. You've also taught me a great technique for cleaning carpets, plus saved me money by recommending OxyClean instead of an expensive auto carpet cleaner.

I'm a sucker for a great interior turn around. That's where the driver spends all their time.

As a reference point for someone starting out, what would a reasonable ballpark price be for an interior of this crustitude?

One cautionary note, I have a Bissell carpet cleaner / extractor and I read a lot of reviews prior to purchasing it saying that Oxyclean will cause the internal components to degrade and start leaking (and void the warranty).

FWIW

Thanks for the warning. I was originally going to use one of those but after seeing these pics I'm going to use OxyClean + PC + ShopVac.

wow this post kinda got brought back from the dead lol...let me see if i can get to everybody...

Yes I love the white PC brush..just make sure you try to keep it clean :). Ive slightly changed my technique for really bad spots and its worked well so far. Now before i wet it i spray the whole area with APC+ 4:1 usually...and ive also been using Folex (available at Home Depot...bout $5 for a big bottle..i think its 64oz but dont hold me to it). I'll hit the REAL bad spots with it...THEN i take my hot water mixed with oxi (yes it is smart to make sure the powder is mixed into the water real well...try to get it all to dissolve) and use a hand held brush to dip into the oxy water and spread it over the carpet...then use the PC to go over it (you can go over it pretty fast...slow arm movement isnt really needed, we arnt takin out swirls :) ) and then start suckin the water out!
Ive also been using the 'little green' carpet cleaner. Wal-mart sells em for about $90...and has a water heater build in. I bought mine from goodwill for $12 hehe...now the heater part is broken, but it extracts real well and saved me almost $80 so i like it. And as long as you fill your bucket w/hot water you're good to go.

I think we only charged this guy $100 and between the 2 of us it wasn't an all day job by any means. We cut him a break and it was one of our first 'full' interior jobs. It did help a ton that the seats were unbolted though :). If I were to bid it again I'd probably go for around $125-140 since it was SO bad. On the average though for a car we're usually around $70 or so (if its not horrible like i said). We recently did a mini van for about $90. It had a couple bad spots but they came out. If they bundle it with something else then i'll make the combined price lower than what the 2 would be individually. Just always try to SEE the job before you bid it...phone bids can be disasters :)

I personally havent had this happen...but i can see the potential. Id think if you run a little clean water through the extractor when you finish the job that you'd be ok.

Nice job! I can only imagine what the outside looked like. Eesh.

Ever seen flat paint? Welllll thats what it looked like lol. It rained on it the day before we did it...there wasnt a bead to be found! Scary thing is it wasnt flat paint...it was clear..but just LOOKED like flat :-\. Had some cc failure goin on so he didnt want a buff or wax or anything.

Shopvac should work pretty good...but if you can find a carpet shampooer connection it should work better...or get a mini extractor liek what i use

Great job on that disaster area.:xyxthumbs:

thank you :)

did you use dp interrior cleaner on them seats?

Yes we did. It was a sample size but worked well..the smell is very strong though so you have to give it a minute to 'air' before you start scrubbing. We finally ran out on our last job...but Megs #39 works well as a cleaner on leather.

A quick technique tip for any leather/interior cleaner....when you spray it on to whatever surface you're working with...use your hand (WHILE wearing a glove!) to spread it evenly over the surface. Before we started doing this...we'd sometimes get 'streaks'...where some 'streaked' areas would be super clean...and then other spots wern't as clean..so we'd have to go over it again. By spreading it evenly when you first spray it on...it lets you work it evenly into the material (same idea as using compound/polish).

Great job man! Keep up the good work!!

Thank you...appreciate the kind words :)

good job... awesome interior before and after pics

Yes the pictures are fun...pain in the butt to sort out and post...but are worth it in the end :props:

Great job and write up!

Thank you...always appreciate compliments on my write ups Im the MAN

Nice work. I also have the same hoover extractor. It gets the job done pretty well for the price:props:

can't believe folks would do this to their vehicle. great restoration.

Yeah it worked good...i love our new 'little green' extractor though..much easier to transport :).

You'd be surprised some of the things we've run into lol....we've dealt with them all pretty well so far. Can't believe this thread is pushing 2000 hits now...thats kinda cool:dblthumb2:

i tried purple marker dye from a carpet thats been sitting there since 2003. I used apc plus 10:1 and oxy clean. I didnt use hot water because i figured it would cool down . How do you get the hot water into the car? do you just run hot water from a shower and fill up your 5 gallon bucket with it? i also dont have the pc/brush attachment i used elbow grease and stiff carpet brush! since i used alot of apc (which i dont like to much megs APC PLUS) i dumped clean water in there to wet vac it out. i put pics on my thread in auto detailing 101 under (need help emergency) so if you can stop by and chime in on the pics to help me out a bit i would greatly appreciate it :) im thinking of getting some kind of interior shampoo and recommendations ?

Superb turn around and great write-up with pictures to match. :props:

For the hot water into the car i just fill up a bucket like you said either at the sink or in the tub..i just make sure i do it when im ready to start doing carpets and not before..so that way it stays pretty hot.

For APC+ I usually use something closer to 4:1 for the bad spots..maybe that will help. A wet/dry shop vac works good..but for me it doesnt suck enough of the water out...the suction head that extractors have on them only have a very thin opening which allows you to put the entire opening onto the carpet..and you only end up suckin water and not so much air...works better in my opinion...plus i like the fact you can see the water coming up so you can SEE how wet it still is and how dirty or clean the water is.

I'll try to see if i can find your thread and give my 2 cents :). For interior shampoo...its not really a shampoo but more of a spot carpet cleaner..and its called Folex...you can get a huge bottle with a spray head for about $5 at home depot. Its a white bottle with purple lettering. Zep makes a pretty good shampoo that too is sold at HD for around $12 a gallon i think. Hope this helps

Superb turn around and great write-up with pictures to match. :props:

Thank you :). Even after all this time im still kind of like 'wow' when i go back and look at them...can't believe how bad it was and how good it turned out lol

you did a GREAT job will! i will try out the folex! I also have to look into getting a extractor or a steamer!
