Hi,

I am fairly new here to this forum and I am in the market for my first DA polisher. I have used an orbital polisher in the past (old Sears model), but have decided to upgrade to a newer model. I have been reading a lot of threads here on this forum in regards to the DA polishers that are available. I have narrowed it down to either the Griots or the Porter Cable polishers. The Flex is just too expensive for my budget. I do realize that asking which of the two is the better polisher is a bit like asking which is better, a Chevy or a Ford. I would like to know if anyone has had experience with BOTH of these units and which one would you recommend? I hope this doesn’t open up a “can-of-worms”.

Thank you,

While the porter cable is very good, the Griots is definitely more powerful. I've had both, and prefer the Griots by a long shot. Griots might not be quite as reliable, but they offer a lifetime warranty.

PC is the cheapest of the bunch if you're on a tight budget. Tried & True!

I personally prefer the Griots and I have used most of the current D/A's currently available.

I've used the PCXP, Griot's 6", Meg's G110v2, Flex 3401, Makita BO6040, and the Festool Rotex 150. My favorite DA? Flex 3401 followed by the Griot's.

Mark,

The OP stated that the Flex 3401 was too expensive for his budget, so I was speaking of comparable models like the Griots, PC etc..

I agree with your ranking and would place the Flex 3401 1st and the Griots 2nd when comparing all D/A's including traditional or forced rotation:xyxthumbs:

Buddy, I did read that about his budget, but I still through in the 3401..haha. We think alike! :dblthumb2:

I have both DA's you speak of, Porter Cable and Griot's, and if you're looking for power - Griot's. I cannot attest to the reliability of the PC because my first one failed after 4 cars. Autogeek took great care of me and replaced it. I did use my replacement a few times without issue, but I bought a Griot's and couldn't be happier. My PCXP is now the backup to the Griot's in the event a failure should occur. Please keep in mind though, anything is prone to failure when you are speaking in terms of mass production. I didn't let the issue rattle my cage too much, I just wanted something with more power and the Griot's delivered.

I have the PCXP and it's a great machine and I haven't had any issues with it. That being said I haven't use the other DA's that are out there. But it does seem that for the amount your looking to spend your money would be well spent on the Griots or the PCXP.

LOL. How often has this question been raised? I was in your shoes last year asking the same question. I feel the GG is the best value. Great power, comes with a nice kit and is backed with a lifetime warranty. It was pretty clear to me once I weighed the pros and cons.

I've been part of this forum only since August and I think this question comes up at least a couple times a month.

Thanks everyone for your replies!!!!!! Griots it is!!!

THANK YOU,

THANK YOU,

I highly recommend ordering the low profile hydro tech 5.5'' pads and a 5" backing plate along with your Griot's, that is if you don't plan to purchase the DAMF system.

you don't plan to purchase the DAMF system.
I was initially amped about this system, however, come to think of it, the pad and product is just too limited. There's no way this could be the only part of my arsenal. I already have products and pads that work just as well, plus more!

Ok, back on topic! Good choice on the Griot's! :dblthumb2:

How many small busines's have around for anyone's Lifetime? Count on a few years, before they go up in smoke.

true, while a lifetime warranty is only as good as the business is around, Griots has been around for a long time (20+ years?) and i don't see them going anywhere anytime soon...
