Took a tour to the picturesque castle of the Neuschwanstein castle.

"Seven weeks after the death of King Ludwig II in 1886, Neuschwanstein was opened to the public. The shy king had built the castle in order to withdraw from public life – now vast numbers of people came to view his private refuge.

Today Neuschwanstein is one of the most popular of all the palaces and castles in Europe. Every year 1.4 million people visit "the castle of the fairy-tale king". In the summer around 6,000 visitors a day stream through rooms that were intended for a single inhabitant.

The setting of Neuschwanstein could not be more idyllic. However, movement in the foundation area has to be continuously monitored, and the sheer rock walls must be repeatedly secured. The harsh climate also has a detrimental effect on the limestone façades, which will have to be renovated section by section over the next few years."

Great pictures Mike. An iconic place in Germany for sure.

Thanks for sharing, Mike!

When I visited Neuschwantstein I was struck by how sparse the interior was. Only a few rooms have furniture in them.

Oh and then we missed the last horse drawn carriage back down the mountain and had to walk... in the rain... back down to our car. You had a much nicer day to see it!!!

very cool castle. i was there during the winter and it didn't look anything like that.

That is one of the most photographed castles in the world!

I think someone is on vacation.

I remember our tour group of high school students walked up then back down while the adult chaperones got a ride both directions. My brother reminded me it was a damp drizzly misty day.

Breath taking....

Thank you.

It was a breathtaking view. No problem.

Holy cow, that is some tour you went on.

Was pretty busy last weekend.

No problem Ian.

Luckily it was nice weather for our vacation which provided for beautiful pictures.

That horse ride was a long way back down. I bet you guys were soaked when you arrived to the car!

Thanks Matt. I'm sure you got some nice winter themed pictures.

Solch ein schönes catle mit einem atemberaubenden Blick. sehr schön.

If I'm not mistaken, this castle was the first dwelling ever to get internal plumbing for water and first to get toilets. I could be wrong, but that's what they told me when I toured the place.

That is correct. It was also the first to receive a telephone. The telephone ran from his castle to his parents castle.

Yes it is.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

nur ein bisschen. haha - enough to get myself into trouble!!

It's such a beautiful place Mike and the people were always so inviting. I would say that about all my travels in Europe regardless of the country. A wonderful place close by (if you have enough holiday time) is Salzburg in Austria. Just a picturesque location built right into the mountains.

Speaking of locations, are you anywhere near Weissach or Leipzig - home of the P Car?

Ha! That's how it always is. I don't speak much at all but whenever we go out the Germans ALWAYS talk to me in German. I have ask them to speak in English.

I would also say that about my travels around Europe. Although right around military installations it can be quite the opposite.

I will have to look into Salzburg and surrounding area. Sounds beautiful.

I live between Trier and Bitburg on Spangdahlem AB. Have you heard of the beer Bitburger? I am roughly 300 km from Weissach. I plan on seeing Porsche and Mercedes.

Breathe taking is about the best way to describe it! Can you imagine the cost to build that today!!

I couldn't help to think that this looks like a castle the late, great Ronnie James Dio would live in.

Thanks for sharing Mike:props:
