New/Old Project Truck 2000 Silverado

The project escalated quickly

The cheap paint job it had caused a lot of problems. Removing the lower trim removed a lot of paint

Had to do some wet sanding and body work.

Do I know how to do bondo? Nope. We shall see how this turns out.

I don't need the color to match as I will be plastidipping over it all.

I do need it all to be smooth.

Body filler
Sanded
Blow dust off with master blaster
Wax/grease remover wipe down
3 coats of builder primer so far

3rd coat drying now. View attachment 76530View attachment 76531View attachment 76532View attachment 76533View attachment 76534View attachment 76535View attachment 76536View attachment 76537View attachment 76538View attachment 76539View attachment 76540View attachment 76541View attachment 76542

Following this and loving it! Read a lot of your Corvette posts. Appreciate your effort and attention to detail. Look forward to seeing the finished product here. Great job!

Thanks. This one has proven a bit more difficult due to the poor paint in a few places

Plan B or Maybe C

Well I decided to try chemical stripper on this test hood.

Should have tried this before testing body filler but this is a learn as I go process.

Need to get this down to metal. Fill in the 1 or 2 dents. Then prime it.

It has about 87 paint chips and it me filling them all in and getting it smooth was tedious and not fun.

Last pics were from a few test scrapes
Still got to wait a few more minutesView attachment 76599View attachment 76600View attachment 76601View attachment 76602View attachment 76603View attachment 76604View attachment 76605View attachment 76606View attachment 76607

This Craftsman paint remover/resurfacer tool is pretty fun.

The chemical stripping did a lot of work. Then I used a turbo nozzle on an electric pressure washer to get the loose paint off.

Then the resurfacer to remove the bull of the rest.

Still have some work to do. Think I'm done for tonight.

Pretty tiresome too View attachment 76608View attachment 76609View attachment 76610View attachment 76611View attachment 76612View attachment 76613View attachment 76614

I tried again to fix those 2 areas. They look much better but not perfect for certain.

I didn't need to add the black paint but I had it here so I added it. Mistake made

The white primer sprayed so good

The black paint sprayed like trash.

Same brand paint. 1 was primer. 1 wasnt. Primer seemed to spray better with this setupView attachment 76625View attachment 76626

Been a while since I have worked in this

Bought a huge new inflatable paint booth

Plan to finish this project as my parents house. They have way more room (13-14 acres) and no pesky HOA to deal with

Going with lava red plus their new body armor pealable bed liner type textured finish

Truck is 24 years old with 220k miles. It definitely needs a refresh

Truck is washed.

Plan to drive it down to moms tomo am

Set up the tent.

Drive it in and do a touch up wipe down (no hose and no excess water)

Then start dis assembly

Then tape up as much as I can Thursday am before classes.

Then maybe finish masking Fri am and start spraying

Removing these:
Taillights
Head lights
3rd brake light
Exterior window trim metal piece
Tail gate handle
Rear extended can windows (they swivel and pop out)

Thankful to have access to mom and dad’s land to set up the huge inflatable paint booth. Excited to try that out and see how it goes.

I got it for $911 shipped from Vevor .com in a bit of a sale.

That seems like a pretty good price for such a big item.

How does any dirt tracked inside by the tires affect things? Is that a big deal or no?
