There are allot of factors to take into consideration.
- New or Used?
- Price
- Warranty
- Fuel Economy
- Gasoline or Diesel?
- Weight & Towing capacity
- 2 wheel drive or 4X4?
- Regular cab or crew cab?
- How long will you keep it?
- Commercial or private?
The list can go on forever but I think you get my point.
If you're buying new then all the "things to look for" on a used vehicle become irrelevant. However, buying a one or two year old truck will save you thousands in initial depreciation.
Buying a new vehicle can be a very emotional experience. The forces of "need" vs "want" are alive and well and the salesman will exploit the "want" because it's where the most money is.
Be sure to research important towing specifications for your vehicle (available in the owners manual or online at NADAguides.com) to determine the manufacturers suggested towing parameters for your vehicle. Over time, over-towing will stress your engine and your drive train wear and tear that could ultimately lead to costly repairs in the future.
Sit and put together a rational list and stick too it. There is plenty of information available on the Internet so the most important thing is to
do your homework and check your emotions at the door.
