New Word of the Day

^^^^^^

Me recuerda a Navidad

^^^^:iagree:^^^^

You've heard of the Latino troubadour named José
The "Picasso of Latin Music" everyone would say.
He's had "Hit Songs" in both English and Spanish
But the song we hope he'll sing to grant our wish
Is "Felice Navidad" to celebrate Christmas Day.

Note:
Just 311 days, 4 hours, 18 minutes 'til Christmas...Starting...Now.

New Word of the Day: 2/18/12

Pachyderm (PAK-i-durm)

Definition:
1. A person who is not sensitive to criticism, ridicule, etc
2. Any of the thick-skinned, nonruminant ungulates, as the elephant, hippopotamus, and rhinoceros
3. An elephant

A detailer must be a pachyderm when receiving honest feedback, otherwise they will likely take offense to what is being said about their work and not be able to comprehend and fix the possible issue.

Thanks for posting Tundra- 9:00 is my cut ff time this a.m.
I hope that you had a good night @ work- if not then sleep it off.
Try to stay keep dry this forcasted wet weekend.

I have to get into my pachyderm frame of mind whenever the better half is home during UPS deliveries from AG.

I'd like to add: Appurtenance...To your "new word of the day" for 02.18.2012, if I may.

I would foresee the use of either:
-A water-hose (w/sprayer-attachment); or,
-The two-bucket [w/grit guard(s)]...For car- washing sessions;

Fall considerably by the wayside...
-If Detailers needing, at times, to be 'thick-skinned'; were also so equipped with a: "Trunk Appendage", as are the Pachyderms' with their appurtenances.

Stranger things have happened...Or so said Darwin!

Great posting FUN, I will have to use not only Tudras choice, but your reference also, in a posting on other threads when I get back. Running late, even though I always allow extra time due to Adventure Worlds' proximity.
Have a great day- the world of detailing awaits.

I will try to do my best to be more diligent with my timing, thank you for the contribution!

Tantamount (tan-tuh-mount)

Definition: same

Source: Thesaurus.com

Many members on this forum have recently been discovering that many LSPs look tantamount to one another after initial application. However are reassured by more seasoned vets that longevity and sustainability will differ. I have seen this a lot when people buy some "luxury"or "boutique" wax or sealant and compare it to a "bargain version".

Very true observation, Tundra_10! Good post. :props:

I, too, have read similar statements on various threads/postings. Some folks state, in all sincerity, that:
"Over The Counter LSP's" performances/characteristics cannot, in their opinion, actually be discerned from those of "Luxury/Boutique LSP's".

This is tantamount to blasphemy, in others opinions.

I've observed that, at times, these differing-of-opinions are expressed in the form of what's become to be known as: "Flaming".
Why must this be so, I ask?

For consideration.
A cue I take from such discussions:
This is a not so subtle reminder that mutual respect, for each individual's "human-sensory-perceptions", is paramount...IMHO.

I, for one, do not like the concept of cloning.

^^ Very true comment FUNX725, I concur that others are branded, tarred-and-feathered, and ridiculed for no reason other then A. others trying to justify their buying habits, B. are "fanboys" of product or brand "X", or C. think they "know" something some do not.

In the end as you put it, it is all down to what your personal preference is. So far I have actually had a lot of luck with some of the less expensive brands of products and even if there is another that out performs it, the opportunity cost might not equate or have enough bearing on my switching. I do have some expensive products but they collect dust, hopefully I can use some stuff up over this summer as I have a plethora of products that are consuming my closet from me trying to decide what I liked best and trying the new "flavor of the month".

Thank you for the word choice today.
IMO, an arsenal is not tantamount to a collection. Each item in my arsenal is used on specific areas of individual jobs. The only reason that my dust collectors exist, is due to either overbuying of a product, or the non-performance of a product.
Now that I think about it, I need to either dispose of or give away these dust collectors, so as to keep them from forming a "collection", if you will.

On a side note, I am not accustomed to sampling the Kool-Aid, therefore most of my products are tried and true Go-to items. I do not own a foam cannon and it appurtenances, nor can I justify its use (for me). Futhermore concerning tools of the trade, many here have no use for mushroom buffs or sewn cotton wheels - yet they are a must have for me.
Parsimonious spending has kept me well balanced thus far. Even though this was not the case before heading east. I was amazed at how easy it was to give away boxes of product rather than lug them half-way across the country.
With this said, I'll post on the Limerick thread and call it a day. Not much of a holiday weekend here.

I have "drank the kool-aid" as so to speak many times since I joined this forum. Now after a few months of being here and spending probably 100s of hours reading and rereading and rerereading, I have learned and egressed my spending and ease of "swiping the ol' MC" to more appropriate purchases. Now I have enough stuff to last me a while. I can now sit back and live vicariously through others spending and purchases, to be excited for the new members when they get their first DA or attempt their first correction and see the transformation and what a little effort can amount to.

New Word of the Day: 2/20/12

Austere (aw-steer)

Definition:
1.severe in manner or appearance; uncompromising; strict; forbidding: an austere teacher.
2.rigorously self-disciplined and severely moral; ascetic; abstinent: the austere quality of life in the convent.
3.grave; sober; solemn; serious: an austere manner.
4.without excess, luxury, or ease; simple; limited; severe: an austere life.
5.severely simple; without ornament: austere writing.

It is not tantamount to have an austere business sense and being frugal. Frugality can run a business into the ground with the OCD-mindset of cost over function. Being austere can save a business money and help it thrive by eliminating and reducing unnecessary overhead.

Well said.

I been there before...Traveling along both of the above
highways!

I'm almost out of fuel now, though.

:laughing::laughing:
Thanks to this forum, I'm now sold on the sealant/spray way(OCW) philosophy.

*Collinite 845 leaves behind an incredible depth and high gloss for such a seemingly austere product.
*Collinite 845 is (IMHO) a must have product for even the most austere enthusiast.

Thanks for your word of the day", Tundra_10. :props:

One of my examples of...Definition #3:

An austere moment...(Former President Bill Clinton upon receiving word of his aquittal in his impeachment trial.)

My antithesis of Definition #4:

-I sometimes miss the good ole days with Former President Bill Clinton. Not much time was spent dwelling on austerity!!

Seemed as if everywhere one looked, there were exposés (or was that exposures) of President Clinton's sex life....
Personified!!!.

-A lot of folks felt they were financially better-off than in previous years.
Unemployment was approaching its nadir-point in several decades...Jobs and prosperity.
-Young men and women of our nation were off to College and making plans on: "Living Their Lives".
-We felt rather safe at home, and living between our Homeland's borders.

My facsimile of: Definition #4:

-It seems a lot of people now are fighting for their financial lives in a depressed, down-turned economy. The unemployment rate is still way too high, IMO. Many people seem demoralized...downtrodden.
-Morality seems to have fallen. Theft, killings, and other crimes are exponentially on the rise.
-Our young people fighting in wars around the globe. College for them is being put on the back-burner...Their outlook in life is bleak.
-Terrorism. We feel less safe than ever.

Yes!...I often reminisce...I do miss Mr. Clinton.

^^ thank you for the contribution and a different example and definition usage of the Word of the day!

o·ver·price

to price excessively high; set too high a price on.

Thanks for your contribution, forum member BigAl3.
An excellent word, you have offered, for all to see.
Consumers are now faced with so many choices.
Manufacturers, tho', are the ones that rejoices;
'Cause their products' over-pricing is, too often, a reality.
