New Word of the Day

Otiose: useless
Serving no practical purpose.

To top Souveran with Opti- Seal would be otiose.

Thank you FUNX725 and Blackthorn_One for your contributions!

New Word of the Day: 3/3/12

Excoriate (ik-skawr-ee-eyt)

Definition: scrape off layers

Source: Thesaurus.com

A IPA solution will help you excoriate old layers of wax and sealant from a car, along with any sort of rubbing compound to allow for a fresh later of glaze and sealant.

Blackthorn, thank you for the contribution! It is much appreciated!

Thanks for participating, AGO member: Blackthorn One.
I always stop by to view this thread before my day is done.
So many "new words of the day" to assimilate.
And the ones you've proffered are really great!
(I've found Bacon's: "G R E A T" Idea... thread is also FUN).

NOTE: I hope you don't mind, Blackthorn One, if I would happen to use a couple of your "new words of the day" in the aforementioned Bacon thread.
{If not...Then I suppose they'll be excoriating [<<Thanks, Tundra_10] me from the pavement!!! :D }

:)

Of course.
munificent: very generous

immiscible - incapable of being homogeneous.

Many car car products list ingredients that are immiscible.

New Word of the Day: 3/4/12

Ensconce (en-skons)

Definition: hide; tuck away

Souce: Thesaurus.com

When taking a vehicle to dealership you really should ensconce any personal belongings of meaning or value to you. This is not trying to elude to the service people being thieves, but simply leaves the articles "out of mind" and furthers the easy of moving about the vehicle. A detailer, if he/she is good, will find everything.

A "new word of the day" for: 03.04.2012...

Banausic

Definitions:
-Mundane; Ordinary; Not refined; Materialistic; Uncultered; Serving utilitarian purposes; Mechanical.

From the ancient Greek philosophers, that held to a belief that they were above the ordinary men who had to continuously labor with no time for recreational activities, and throughout the history of mankind, people have carried this belief forward.

-The Egyptians of old thought they were better than the Hebrew slaves
-Russian Marxists believed that the elite Bourgeois were above the working-class Prolitariat
-Hitler vs. Jews
-Henry Ford and his views of assembly-line workers
-US Congresspersons' needs opposed to those of their constituents
-Wall Street and the 'rest of the everyday-investors'
-The Haves against the Have-nots.

Enough of these comparisons.

How do I interpret this as to applying to detailing?

-I've seen thread after thread on this forum site talking about how some folks seem to have no high-regard for the expensive vehicles they own.
Examples: Trashed interiors; Use of tunnel washes; improper maintenance; etc.
-Most of the general public sees their vehicles as materialistic, a mode of transportation...Point A>Point B...And basicly rely on others to do the grunge work---something some people feel is beneath them and they will "employ" the people they feel is up (or is that down) for this mundane, banausic work.
-Even read where "Exotic Vehicle" owners don't seem to give a whit to 'properly maintaining' their expensive paint...I truthfully wonder if they feel the same for their Detailer of choice.

If I may dare so to ask, then:
What measures must be taken to educate the vehicle owners of the World, that Detailers put their pants on the same as they do?? (And furthermore, IMHO, the so-called Elitist-class are no better than the working-class!!!...Are we humans that un-homogeneous/immiscible???)

immiscible - incapable of being homogeneous.

-Perhaps this class-division has been ensconced in generational after generational thinking/believing...with no clear-cut path for correction in sight!

Wax - [waks]
1. Naturally occurring greasy substance.
2. Preparation for polishing.
3. Resinous mixture used in shoe making.

VT's Thesaurus:

1.Medium used in recorded music. Stacks of wax. My favorite musical artist is Miles Davis, especially when presented on wax.
2. Verb:used to show intensity. After a long night of Crown Royal and two-stepping at the honky-tonk, I seized the opportunity to take my Whiskey Girl home, and I waxed that a**.

Or more politely: The Giants waxed the Patriots, 21-17, in Superbowl XLVI.

GUH!! For trying to keep detailing oriented, I cannot believe I did not think of that one! HAHA! Thank you sir!

Thanks for your post...Hilarious!!

Reminds me of:
-My old theme song: "All the girls look good at closing time".
-Gilligan Island Episodic Drunken Events...I wasn't sure when Mary Ann snuck out my apartment last night, but I figure it was about the same time Mrs. Howell snuck in.
-My PhD. thesis in political science was titled: “I Could So Outdrink Ted Kennedy.”

Thanks again for the good belly-laugh, VT!!

VT, thank you .

Spurious: not genuine, authentic, or true; not from the claimed, pretended, or proper source; counterfeit.

Folderol: Foolishness, nonsense
The spurious claims of the Sham Wow being an excellent car drier border on fantastically flagrant folderol.

Blackthorn_One, thank you sir for your recent additions. I too agree with Vegas Transplant, you all are making this a wonderful and enjoyable thread! =)

Quixotic: Foolishly impractical, especially in pursuit of ideals.

Many enthusiasts are guilty of overspending both time and money in their quixotic pursuit of a flawless swirlfree finish on their high milage daily driver.

Have a great day.
