funx725;638215[In [U said:Freud's[/U]..."The Ego and the Id"...he set forth his theories on the psychological differences, and thus, behaviors of humans in regards to the conflict between one's self-interest (egoism) and their instinctual trends/drives (Id).
Several variables got me to thinking about switching methodology: 1. The client did not fit my regular client profile(were not retired and had young children). 2. Their possesion of 3 so-called high end badges (did fit the profile; even though a car is a car in my book). 3. My desire to have them as a maintenance customer. 4. Galatians 6:7-8.
The id and the ego battled to the end...and the id prevailed...and the ego takes a back seat once again ~ this was almost never the case when I was RV detailing, with a few 4-wheelers thrown in.
Ethical egoism...Claiming that a person ought to do what is in their own self-interest.Wolf in sheeps clothing. Had them hooked after discussing processes and results.
Rational egoism...Claiming it is only rational that a person should act in one's self-interest. Potential loss of $60 - as opposed to financial monthly gain if they add the other two vehicles. No brainer.
And...Speaking of dreams:
I always enjoyed listening to Annie Lennox' refrains of:
"Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree"?

I have been contemplating this post for a while now. Trying to put my thoughts into words.
Perfect song for someone having to find new customer base. I have been on both sides of the use/abuse chorus

Having said this, I still cannot see the altruism here. Maybe I am still guided by the egoism($$$)? Gotta hit the hay... after a quick run through today's posts. Thanks for the guidance and the research.
