A "new word of the day" for 06.11.2012:

Scrobiculate

Definition: Mark with many shallow depressions, grooves, pits, or hollows.

The Detailer's forehead, likewise, became instantaneously scrobiculated upon discovering the tell-tell signs left behind from many:
A-too-long-a-lingering, "hard as zirconium-ish...meconium-ish" defecations from: The South-end, of North-bound flying, 'friends' of aviarian-persuasion!!!

Great use of imagery.

I sometimes wonder what the OP concluded was the best method to alleviate these scrobiculated wheels.

Peculate

Definition: To misappropiate; steal; pilfer; take dishonestly; make public, private property.

Adherence to Mike Phillips' applicability of the maxim:

"Give credit where credit is due"...

Is a brilliant, and demonstrable principle; which, if one so desires, may be utilized for: Peculation-avoidance tactics.

The sham detailer's decision to peculate photos bit him in the arse when found out by AGO forum members.
The sham detailer's use of a canned carpet dye in leiu of extraction, left the naive customer seeking recoupment of peculated monies.

I have opted for 06.13.2012’s "new word of the day" to be:

Postulate

Definition(s):
-To assume or assert the truth, reality, or necessity of... especially as a basis of an argument.
-To assume as a premise/axiom.
-Something assumed without proof as being self-evident or generally accepted: Take for granted.
-A basic principle.
-An assumption.
-Practical proposition, to the effect that something is possible.
-A truth to which assent may be demanded or challenged, without argument or evidence.
-A proposition that is accepted as true in order to provide a basis for logical reasoning

Background:
At times, when I see locales denoted by a: "Welcome to the Village of...." sign, these thoughts come to mind...

If one will accept the postulate that:
-AGO's detailing forum is a: Community...i.e. “a society of detailers"…
[a representative microcosm (village) of the 'Outside-Societal-World', I dare to say!!]

Then (IMO):
-It should hold true that members of said AGO's detailing forum will be under: a particular-Society's guidance/controls (rules?)/influences…
the same that pertain to our current perception of "Society" in general, and/or, as a whole.

How, then, I ask myself, may this above-correlation be manifested?

First…
To paraphrase and reference some anthropologists’ definition of ‘societal beginnings’:

The start-up of society began as the interaction between people living in and belong to secluded villages; wherein, for example: leaders emerged (by force/were elected);
food/shelter was provided; trade, and subsequent marketing-tools for villager’s particular goods, evolved; protection/safety of village inhabitants was provided;
villagers could be prosecuted/ostracized for violations…real or perceived;

Once ‘the village’ dared to venture beyond its boundaries, or came under attack, there was contact with other villages, and their respective inhabitants...
that had their own societal set of rules. A joining of ‘forces’ resulted in enlargement of villages…
or, even the destruction of a village, with its surviving inhabitants having to follow new rules.
(It seems, what I’ll call: “The Domino Effect”, has been pervasive throughout the history of mankind)

Now, in comparison, AGO”s detailing forum (Community/Village):

-Villagers: (members)
-There are the Village-Leaders: Max and his Staff
-The village (forum) rules
-Commerce (trade) between/for: Vendors; members; in-house product-lines
-Protection/safety: Product warranties; efficiency/courtesy of AGO’s sales staff; defense of product-line(s)’ by “fan-boys”;
no ‘links’ to: out-side of AGO’s village-offerings; other ‘enforcements’ including, but not limited to: banishment from village for forum rules violations.
-Domino Effect: AGO acquisitions

There are, most assuredly, caveats to consider in making these comparisons. Among those are:

-No one is ever under any obligation to be an AGO detailing forum village-member
(though an always-open invitation to belong is understood...who hasn't, at one time or another: "lurked")
-No one must participate in any type of Commerce, the AGO village offers, to be a village-member (not a life or death scenario)
-A village member may exit AGO’s village on their own volition
-Most importantly...Take into consideration that this is just my personal observations…based solely on my perspicaciousness of: Community.

However, and as:
Economist, and Nobel Prize recipient, Douglass C. North has notably written:

"...I believe that an understanding of how people make choices; under what conditions the postulate of rationality is a useful tool;
and how individuals make choices under conditions of uncertainty and ambiguity; are fundamental questions that we must address,
in order to make further progress in the social sciences.”

Further support of an:
‘AGO’s detailing forum/as-a-village’ metaphor… as a postulate??

Howdy, Bob!
I'm kinda beat right now, but I was reading some older post over the weekend that personified the comraderie of forum members. Most of those threads went 30-40 post with no ill winds (if any).
But no need for me to tell you, judging by your longevity here.
If you don't mind take a look at the first two minute or so.

Hi VT (David)...

I enjoyed the entire video...Thanks for its inclusion!!

Wisened...A little, perhaps.
Sagacious..indeed!
Both? Most likely.

Sagaciousness/(Sagacity)

Definition:
-Wisdom
-Discernment: profound knowledge/understanding (coupled with foresight and good judgment)
-Erudition
-Intelligence
-Perceptiveness
-Prudence

There are many epistemological, “Schools of Thought”, pertaining to varying levels/degrees of: Being a human.

Considering myself to not always be a “pragmatic-thinker", as such, I’ll still assert, that the following is what I consider are some of the most influential factors, (and the fundamental dynamics between them), towards providing one with: “the human experience”.

1. The human neurological system: regulates how our bodies function
2. Human language: communication/interaction
3. Programming: determines our vista of the World

IMO…Their multidisciplinary, integrative nature disallows separation of one or more of these components, from another. Rather, I say, it’s this amalgamation that permits one to develop strategic thinking/understanding…enabling one to develop skills necessary for acquiring their identity, beliefs, behaviors, presuppositions, communications’-ability, perceptions of ‘reality’, mission, spirituality, and, even what the processes of change is all about.
Striving for a state of: "Sagaciousness of Individual Human Excellence"!

Perceptions of ‘Reality’?

Let me pose it another way: Is it possible for human beings to know ‘objective reality’?

-As one begins the journey of life…our human bodies/minds, the societies we live in, and the World/Universe around us, forms very complex systems, all of which interacts with and influences each other…which, by nature, should find: homeostatis ---“the reality balancing act”.

Instead, it seems that the road-map one uses to go about life’s sojourn is dotted by specks of ones perception of what is ‘real’, or not. From birth, our sensory systems give us the experiences, and then we respond…communicatively (human speech), physically, mentally (memory), emotionally, spiritually.

Based on these early-on, simple to digest ‘map-readings’, I’ll suggest that one builds-out to our adult ‘human experience’ by further developing our committed-to-memory: ‘ideas of what we perceive’ reality to be.

But, to be sure, this particular “Life’s road-map”, for all that it is worth, probably does not cover all of the terrain! Maybe it’s the neurological/communication skills: ‘road-maps of reality’…that also aid in determining our behavior patterns, and give those behavior patterns meaning (not reality, in and of itself).

Thankfully, sagacity prevails.

IMO…No human is capable of drawing-up the “correct/right” road-map. it's best to ardently attempt to create the “richest road-map” for life’s journey…one that provides excellence---the best quality-of-life… to be made available through the greatest number of choices and perspectives.

Now that, would be a: Life-Journey-Cartographer's dream!

Back to the Show...(Or, The Exuberance of Youth)

I wonder what young folks’: “perspective of reality” would be after watching the above linked video.

Would they stridently exclaim (and I’ll try to keep my ‘perspective’ family-friendly :D):

“Out of the way Old Man”; “Times have changed—You need to do so, too”; “Old-School S.(X).B.”! “Wrinkled-up old #######”! “Crazy Character”!!

I hope not!!

(“They were of so blind judgment, that they stumbled at a straw, to leap over a brick!!)

-An excellent point brought-up by the gentleman in this video that immediately caught my attention:

To paraphrase: “Used to be when a Trucker saw another fellow Trucker broke down by the side of the road they stopped to provide assistance"…(No strings attached!, I'll add)

This, to me, was a way of showing the World that a person “had character”… was not parasympathetic toward a fellow human being and their ‘lot in life’.
(I’m not saying it isn’t being practiced today, by young and old alike, it just seems to have lessened to quite an extent...appears less frequent as part of of the landscape along “Life’s road-map”).
The act of Good Samaritan-ism may, perhaps, even be seen as picayune, by many, when viewed as part of their big “perspective-picture-window” to attaining excellence.

To me: Not so.

Too often, I’ve discovered, that it’s misplaced priorities/poor judgement (perspectives) that causes one to concentrate on bagatelle, while ignoring issues of greater significance.

"Yon Cassius has a lean and hungry look" ~ Shakespeare

-Now, to the perspective of the Gentleman in this referenced video being: Old; wrinkled-up.

How easy it is to pigeon-hole someone with a wizened appearance, discounting altogether that along-with this (and I say this fondly) old-timer’s: wrinkle-accumulated/laden journey through life; there has been, invariably, much wisdom garnered along-side those scrobitulations that furrow his brow, as well.

In closing:

Excellence comes from having many choices.
Wisdom comes from having multiple perspectives.

Tautology

Definition:
1. The use of words that merely repeat elements of the meaning already conveyed
2. Propositional Logic (Philosophy): A statement of truth; a truth-functional sequential expression/equation

I. An example of a tautologous, sequential-expression (during an earlier phone conversation with the Wife-at-work)…

FUNX725…[after an obligatory: ”Hi hon’ ”]

“Friday’s are pay-days…Your turn to buy dinner at El Cazador’s “ (?)

“Today is Friday…Therefore (with your debit card in tow): You are buying dinner at El Cazador’s ”(!)

Mrs. FUNX725…(Uncharacteristic: HUH!. RE: WTH !!)

II. An example of a: Detailing tautological sequential-expression…

A top-coat paint-film’s (CC) ‘glossness-factor’ is….Due to its ‘smoothness-factor’

My vehicle’s (CC) is 'glossy'….Therefore it is 'smooth'.

III. The: “other woman”

Doesn’t take much “logical-thinking” to find the obvious fallacies in the first example above to have it: Shot-full-of-holes
The second example, though, will probably: “hold water”!

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Father's Day week-end.

:)

Sagaciousness/(Sagacity)

Definition:

The people with whom I associate the most are 15-18 years my senior. Many times during a conversation , I have noticed that their sagaciousness has a tendency to discount my ideas and philosophies. While possibly unintentional, it is annoying none the less.
Now, as I ponder the reason why this gets under my skin, I realize that maybe they don't want me to make the mistakes that they did; or had witnessed of others.

Agreed. But as we continue this journey, known 'realities' change, IMO. Some for the better. Some not. What we know today, may be irrevocably changed tomorrow. Ex:
*Flat earth/round earth.
*Our nine plant solar system.
*Liberty and justice for all.
*'Til death, we do part.

Thankfully, sagacity prevails.

So true.
My road map is full of wrong turns and dead ends...the 'you can't get there from here' thinking, that ,"by the grace of God", restarts everday.
I sometimes compare my road map to my brother's (9 years my junior) and my 20 year old ,college senior daughter's.
They both shared the ability to learn from my mistakes during their formulative years; and both navigated around roadblocks in life that I stumbled upon.

Back to the Show...(Or, The Exuberance of Youth)

OUCH!!! My life exactly.
Not just the trivial, but what's 'hot' at the moment, not the long run.
Against the grain of my formulative training.

Excellence comes from having many choices.
Wisdom comes from having multiple perspectives.

It's ironic today that I detailed 2 vehicles of a recently laid off , veteran trucker, who was displaced when his company (22 years) went with contact drivers over company drivers.

Such Sagaciousness! from what You've so penned:
Exemplary of "Lifes-Journeys"...You've so kenned

Tomorrow (06.17.2012)...My youngest daughter and I plan on revisiting one of her favorite The Sound of Music show tunes:

"Sixteen Going on Seventeen", wherein Rolf was giving guidance to Liesl...

ROLF:

You are...
it's time to think.
Better beware, be canny, and careful;
……you're on the brink

You are......
Totally unprepared…..to face a world…
Timid and shy and scared are you:
Of things beyond your ken.

Met a prospective customer while detailing yesterday. This lady is a beauty salon operator who set app't for Sunday morning (Father's day) with the possibility of me detailing for her customers (captive audience if you will) at the strip mall, where she owns her business on future Saturdays.

The dilema: wife and brother paid for and planned a surprise visit for my mom who hasn't travelled since diagnosis of, and, treatment for disc deterioration due to chemo. I'm estimating at least 6 hrs on this DD BMW. While it would have been a surprise and a welcomed event, them having no knowledge of my schedule (rarely detail on Sundays) seems to put me not only in a quandry personally, but a dilema that may/may not provide residual income.

Their lacking ken in the way that detail jobs materialize, and opportunities present themselves have left me looking like the bad guy.

If I take this job, then she will have her butt on her shoulders for the duration of mom's visit.
If I cancel the app't, I may lose residual income.

Well, so far FD weekend is starting on a sour note.

Wish you all a great Father's Day!

Seem that in my rush to make it to the DC line before 6pm, that I made an error in the above post.

Another faux pas: F D detail

I made an error in judgement by quoting over the phone/internet after meeting client in her DD on Friday. The photo above is the garage queen, dirty as she may be.
I always advise to NEVER quote unseen vehicle. Luckily, this one should not bite me in the arse tomorrow.

Anyway, back to the forum, then, to launder towels.

Have a FUN time with your daughter tomorrow! (I remember participating in the R&H production in the 3rd grade play; I was an urchin.)

Mike, wishing you well , and fun- times also!

Centenarian

Definition:
1. Someone who is at least 100 years old
2. Being at least 100 years old

-One example of a centenarian business is Meguiar's.

-One thing that made my 2012 Father's Day very enjoyable was to, once again, spend some time conversing with my Mother-in-Law's Father. He is 101 years old (Birthday is December 12th).
Although his physicality has deteriorated somewhat, his mind is still sharp as a tack!! Still reads several newspapers daily, including the Wall Street Journal...keeps up with current events.
Such a wonderful life, filled with marvelous anecdotes, this centenarian is always willing to share!

For example, today, he...
-brought up the fact that: after he willingly handed over his car keys on his 100th birthday, he has had a valid driver's license for over 85 years.
-has been drawing a retirement pension check for 53 years; A Social Security check for 39 years.
-bought his first Harley in 1929 to save on commuting to work-gasoline prices.
-hasn't yet decided who will be the best candidate/party to vote for in the upcomong Presidential election...(Where are all of the promised: Jobs...for out-of-work Americans going to come from, he firmly stated!

Good hardy stock, indeed, the Wife has come from!
