New Word of the Day

As influenced by a recent, interesting: "thread-starter"...

A "new word of the day" for 06.18.2012:

Heuristic

Definition (In summary): Decision-making by "trial&error".

Many factors/forces(?) will 'come to the fore' when a "person of detailing-interests" decides to choose detailing supplies. Often, advice alluding to: experimentation-of-products...is given...The Heuristic-Problem-Solving-Approach, if I may so dare to say!

:)

Bob

A heuristic approach used to finalize detailing product choice, is a superb way of actualizing the "find something you like, and use it often" mantra.

For 06.19.2012:

Judicious

Definition: Prudent; wise; thoughtful; cautious; well-advised

Judicious...Judgment, as exercised by an individual
Judicial.....Judgment, as exercised by Courts of Law

Sometimes...
Some of our hard-working, conscientious, AGO Forum Detailing-friends, are faced with perplexing situations presented by customers that claim their:
"modes of transportation"...have incurrred damage(s) while in the Detailers' care.

That's why it has been recommended that a well-documented: "walk-about"...is a judicious-tool to help preserve their status as a reputable Detailer.
Armed with such "walk-about evidence" may, indeed, provide juridical proof, if there were to be the necessity of any juridicial proceedings.

:)

Bob

Judicious choice of detailing product/tools , and of application, is mandatory for sevicing the public. Failure to do so may cause damage not only to the vehicle, but to the reputation of the detailer as well.

Happy detailing...:buffing: ...weather is not cooperating here.

Nothing on the horizon til Friday (yet),
one customer, 3 Caddy's and a Tribute...one step/light interior on all.
30% chance of thundestorms predicted for Friday.

Here it's: 90 degree plus all week, with thunderstorms predicted for Thursday.

BTW VT...

How'd the detail on the beauty shop owner's vehicle go this past Sunday?

:)

Kind of you to ask, Bob!

Non-resized photos are in my album, 2006 325 ( was in the process of resizing using Webresizer.com when service to that site was interrupted (Comcast service rep).
http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/album.php?albumid=435

Simple one step with moderate interior (leather)$140+ $40 tip. 4 hours. Polyseal/Opti-Seal/Optimum Car Wax.
OOS application=15 min.approx.
OCW application=15 min.approx.
Will take a ride in the next day or so to check out the strip mall.

Was heavily overcast this morning, but abundant sunshine now with heavy haze (rained cats and dogs yesterday).

On another note, got an opportunity to trade the 68 GMC (rust bucket) on an 84 Chevy Van from one of the visitors that were here Sun/Mon. Have to go to South Carolina to check it out, maybe 4th weekend.

Good question! Hope he's alright.

Very attractive looking detail on the BMW!!! (Hope it attracts some "beauty shop @ the strip-mall customers" as well.)

That's the beauty of a captive audience that's spending several hours @ one location.
She didn't want to pay for a full interior, just one step and leather cleaning - carpets were immaculate for a 6 year old car, or, any car for that matter.

I'll go back through the thread, I remember Mike speaking of travelling to spend time with family.

Let's hope that he didn't get in a Fatal Attraction kind of relationship.

Just kidding, Mike!:)

 Just remembered a gift coupon (prepaid) recipient. I need to get off of here and give the recipient a call...better now, than to have to schedule a prepaid on a busy week.

While i'm out I have to send a OCW sample to a new forum member. PM me if you want a sample of OCW or polyseal.

Solstice

Definition:
1. Either of two times of the year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator.
The summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere occurs about June 21, when the sun is in the zenith at the tropic of Cancer;
the winter solstice occurs about December 21, when the sun is over the tropic of Capricorn.
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and the winter solstice is the shortest.
2. A highest point or culmination.

'Reflecting' on the nuances of: The Summer Soltice

1](a.) The longest sunlit-day, of the year 2012, in Ohio: Today(06.20.2012).
(b.) Each following Ohio-day's: sunlit-hours, from now until December 20-21...is lessened by a minute or so.

2](a.) Even though it means less yard-work...Our lawn is already: ecrued-out.
(b.) Strangely...Our Village's water-rate attains its solstice right about, uhm, let's see....Now!

3](a.) My 'detailing'-solstice was reached many years ago, while being a younger-soul.
(b.) My Wife states that: " 3](a.) is applicable to a few (unmentionables), 'non-detailing' life-aspects of mine, as well"!

To paraphrase Jackie Gleason: OH! One of these days! One of these days! POW...Zoom!!
(Her solstice going to wind up being celestial?!?!)

Entailment (n-tl, n-)

Definitions:

1.) To have, impose, or require as a necessary accompaniment or consequence:

Wet/damp-sanding modern BC/CC paint systems may entail the risk of CC damage.

2.) To limit the inheritance of (property) to a specified succession of heirs.

My expressed wishes, for the Executor of my estate to follow through with, includes that:

In order to inherit my vehicles, as herein, entailed;
One must assure, that they'll always be: Detailed

3.) A predetermined order of succession, as to an estate or to an office.

When the big hand on the clock says: Zero-Hour....What will it entail!! to even be considered: Mike Phillips' successor at AGO?!?!

At the risk of sounding morbid, I too, have pondered this question.
Weird, huh?

Detailing the Old School Escalade (2000), on this hot humid day of the summer soltice, entailed certain dangers for the former desert dwelling detailer.

Keep up the good work, Bob!

A "new word of the day" for 06.22.2012:

Exudate

Definition: A substance that has oozed forth

-I can only imagine the expense that one may be forced to incur when purchasing a new set of tires...

Since:

The primary source of natural-rubber is, still, the harvesting of the sap-like exudate (latex) from the 'Rubber Tree'...

And if:

"Tire-Chemists" had not devised methods of producing synthetic-rubber(s) from: 'Petrochemical-exudates'!

Now, the $64,000 Question begs to be asked...(in order to maintain that new set of tires "natural-rubber look"):

What is, really, the best tire-care products for removal of those: 'Blooming (friggin!)-exudatives'???

It's enough to make a grown man...(have tear-gland exudates)!!!

06.23.2012's "new word of the day":

Surfeit  (sur-fit)

Definition: Excess; glut; overindulgence; plenitude; profusion

-Whenever AGO forum-members display their varied 'collection' of sacrificial-barriers, some folks may comment on them possessing an:
Excessive-number (plethora) of waxes---that this surfeit could, indeed, last several lifetimes!!

There may even be "budget-busting" references from time-to-time.
My comment/question to this allusion is...
"Can there ever be: Too much of a good thing?"

:)

Bob

Most of the DD's that I handle have a surfeit of filth and grime on the paint, and quite a few imperfections in the paint.
The prices I have here (Md.) causes me to have tear gland exudates of a crocodilian nature.

As inspired by VT's reference to crocodilian (above posting); and,
Sheryl Crow's:"Soak Up Some Sun"......

For 06.24.2012's "new word of the day":

Bask (basked, basking)

Definition:
1.) To expose oneself to pleasant warmth (especially that of the sun)
2.) To take great pleasure or satisfaction
3.) To flourish or feel secure under some benevolent influence or favorable condition
4.) A crocodilian behavior

5.) Ms. Crow's following rendition:
"I'm gonna soak up the sun
Gonna tell everyone
To lighten up....

I'm gonna soak up the sun
While it's still free
I'm gonna soak up the sun
Before it goes out on me"

6.) Perhaps..Some AGO-forum member's desire(?)..."an opportunity to bask in the genteel applause of the faithful" ~ Paul A. Witteman.

-Such an excellent day, it was, to have spent some quality-time with both the ladies (Wife & Red Corvette), cruising to our favorite chili-dog/root-beer stand,
while taking an opportunity to bask in the warmth of lazy, Sunday, summer-afternoon.

Along the way, I thought I'd snap a 'Glorious' basking-photo (Flag: courtesy of Dave Arbogast Dealership...@I-75N/US25-A exit):

I was thinking about...Antithetical...for 06.25.2012's "new word of the day".

Definition:

1. Diametrically opposed (expressing or constituting the complete or exact opposite)
2. Contrasting with earlier proposition (relating to, or consisting of a proposition that is the opposite, of another already proposed

When it comes to auto-glass scratch(es)-removal...[especially when it's windshield-glass]...
there seems to be a plethora/surfeit of antithetical viewpoints presented by various AGO forum members.

If I dare to ask...To whom, then, should the credit be awarded, of the preferential: processes/tools/products?

:)

Bob

Been busy lately with one thing or the other.

I am starting to have an affinity for the flag .
If the weather is nice, I will be on the National Mall for Independence Day, basking in the history that can only be found in Washington, D.C.

On another note, there are two mediums found on most vehicles that are hard - yet easily scratched and very difficult to bring back pristine...SS and GLASS.
Mike P. said something about having an open mind for others' processes (and I do), but, I was getting hung up on word choice, retractions, and outright misleads.

And, if you're talking multiple square yards of each, sometimes the cure is worse than the ailment.

Also, seems to me that those posting the use of glass cutting pads, for severe waterspot removal (I have the post bookmarked) , is antithetical to common sense , and , to what I like to call the detailers creed...'first of all, do no harm'...and if you do, fix it quickly.

A "new word of the day" for 06.26.2012:

Monotony

Definition:
1. Uniformity or lack of variation in pitch, intonation, or inflection.
2. Tedious sameness or repetitiousness
3. Wearisome routine; dullness
4. Humdrum; sameness; unvaried

-In the course of performing many jobs, there is often detection of one considering that some of the tasks are indeed monotonous.
But, IMO, due to the "materials make-up variedness" of vehicles, monotony should not be a bane to Detailers.

-Some AGO forum members will state that they notice the repetitious nature of threads, especially from the 'noobs'.
However, sometimes there are 'new members' that, upon posting their first threads...(and those threads: nature),
are deemed to be of the same ilk as: Trolls/Spammers.
Even if this indeed true, or not, it does provide an AGO forum member an opportunity to be, if nothing else, entertained...

A welcome break from reading, what some may feel, are monotonous, repetitious threads/postings.

:)
