Nitrile glove users??

Little off topic, but when you guys detail cars do you reuse the clay? Or use new one every time?

Depends on how bad the clay is. If the car is really contaminated and my clay bar is really dirty when I'm done I'll toss it. If it's not so bad and I can still fold it to a clean section I'll keep it. Usually I'll get 2-4 cars out of 1 piece of clay. Again really depends on the car and how neglected it is.

Always new. I cut my clay bars into four 2oz strips so I get more out of each bar. One strip is often enough to do an entire car, so I can get four cars out of one bar.

I constantly wear my gloves throughout the process besides when I use my Foam Gun for washing the car. I ALWAYS wear them while detailing the inside of the car because I come across some not so enlightening stuff. I do as well switch gloves when switching from exterior to interior, or if one tends to tear. I am as well looking for cheap durable gloves.

I Strongly agree with you!!

I would also buy some latex gloves from Sam'sclub or Costco. They are like 10 bucks for 500 I think. I only only use nitrite gloves for the heavier chemicals. And switch to light latex gloves for other stuff.

:iagree:100%. There's no way I will clean an interior of a car other than my own without gloves! Couple examples of why:

I tried using clay with gloves and I spent more time trying to keep the clay from sticking to my gloves while kneading than I did running it across the surface.

Say your doing a 1-3 step and charge 200+, would you still use a used clay that is in good shape? Or give them a new clay because your charging a lot more.

I would normally use my used clay on cheaper details. Like if they just need wash/clay/wax. I would only use a new one if the older one was real bad.

You know what I learned from working at dealership. We use scuff pads on cars interior and it does wonders! Like foot step, door panels, leather. You just cant rub really hard on leather or else it will scratch it.

We use these red scuff pads with our APC and most of the time they come out GREAT.

I don't know if anyone use these before, would you guys use these on high end detailing?

I usually use the used piece of clay as long as it's still clean. I never use clay that's overly contaminated. And if I'm polishing anyway, I'm not overly concerned with using a new piece of clay, since I'll be polishing anyway.

I know this was directed toward someone else, but what I do is keep a couple used pieces around that aren't biting much and use them for rocker panels and wheels. Then I use new or something that was used once before on the rest of the car until it becomes too dirty. I used to waste a lot of clay until Anthony@OCDetails Salt Lake City told me about the rule of thumb method. Basically measure a piece of clay about the size of your thumb and tear that off for use. Has worked wonderful with no issues and less waste.

True. I'm going try to get something to hold all my clays. I think at freight harbor they got some type of tray with lid that has separate compartment. So I can tell which clay is for what, paint, glass, wheels, etc....

Yeah I usually cut the DP clay into 1/4. Usually last me 2-3 cars before I turned them to the wheels.

Anyone use the blue nitrile gloves that are sold at the big box stores and autozone etc? I have seen them for cheaper than the black one but they don't feel as heavy duty as the ones I have.

I have tried the grey ones from CostCo, and they are not nearly as good as the black nitrile. The CostCo ones are very loose and baggy, not nearly as good of a fit. I would be interested in trying out some of the Kimberly Clark purple ones, but I bet they are really expensive being medical grade.

I use the black ones for everything now - cleaning around the house, working on my bikes etc.

I only use them for changing oil, and whenever I need to use a strong tar remover. I have the ones from HF, and they work fine.

I use black nitrile gloves from harbour Freight 8 bucks for a 100 they are latex, powder free very resistent to heavy chemicals. They have many sizes to choose from, they carry black, blue, and clear.
,
I wash the vehical put on the gloves and they don't come off till i'm finished, with the whole car.

i bought a 5 boxes of the powder free black nitriles for about $11 a box. they are good gloves, look industry appropriate BUT when I use them my hands sweat like crazy! One time they looked like an old mans hand!

Looks like I'm the only one not using these! Prolly should consider a whole body condom, not just gloves.
